Personally i think anyone who really thinks this is shit has just been sippin on a bit too much haterade lately. I really get sick of all this "my band is the most awesomest band evar, and nobody can ever be as good as they are!" bullshit that constantly gets tossed around. The Doors are fuck awesome, Smashing Pumpkins are fuck awesome. Led Zeppelin is fuck awesome, Cream, was fuck awesome. They're all good bands, they all made good music. Fucking chill out for shits sake.

Lets be honest, the live versions of this song by the DOORS sucks beyond belief. So I give a lot of credit to SP for doing a pretty good version. Truth is, if you want the best version of this song LIVE you have to listen to the Duran Duran version. They got everything they could out of Jim in the studio but he was not much to hear live. I suppose everybody has a story of that ONE night when he was not fuckd up and sounded great but I have never seen it on video.

@bohs1984 Couldn't agree less. There is a video here on youtube of a live version in Toronto that was beyond belief AMAZING. The fact is, Crystal Ship is Morrison's poem, his words, and he was the only one that could ever sing it with the emotion it deserved. Morrison was a troubled soul with many problems but his poetry and songs had a profound influence on people then and still do. Duran Duran were just fans of the great Morrison, and frankly their version lacks the emotion and soul.

truer words aren't generally spoken in todays society, but such is true if you're speaking on behalf of an artists OWN music and not a song or piece of music that they are trying to play.

You won't see anyone ever cover Stairway to Heaven on a large scale; and for good reason.

...not to compare the Crystal Ship to STH, but it's a damn great song in its own respect and I personally as a lifelong Jim Morrison and Doors fan don't appreciate it..

What i said made perfect sense....there are loads more skillful drummers than Densmore...he could just emphasize certain things that other drummers couldn't...he had different skills within drumming that made him unique.
