Artyom is one of the coolest characters ever because we can all relate with him. I mean if some fucking assholes where attacking my home I would go apeshit on the too. Even if I did get both endings just for the fuck of it.
I love this song. But I just can't wait for Metro: Last Light to come out this year. It kinda sucks that it'll take place after the bad ending. Anyway I just love this song:D
idk y the "good ending" is wen u shoot the laser thing and let the zombies live. i no tht they're supposed 2 represent peace but i dont c how they do at all. in my opinion i'd say the good ending is wen the missles r launched. idk about anyone else but if i were artyom, after all the shit those mindfucker zombies put the humans thru, i would've been like fuck u 2 them and launched the missles. fuckn creepy game amazing game.
The dark ones never intended to hurt the people they can't speak so they have to telepathicly communicate which humans can't handle and they wanted peace with humanity, Artyom never knew this and on the bad ending he becomes filled with greif since the dark ones were going help them rebuild on the surface. Since he was trying save his station from them instead he doom's what remains of humanity which is where the new game takes place.
You can definitely tell the Dark Ones are the next stage in evolution because of their wishes for the future. Unlike humans, so willing to go to war, the Dark Ones want coexistence.
in the book. he tries to save the dark ones in the last second but doesnt make it and than he takes of his gasmask and starts walking back to the metro... to his home.
I don't know why but when I woke up this song immediately started playing in my mind, I haven't played Metro since august, yet this somehow started playing in my head.
The only reason Last light will take the bad ending is not just to extend the game but thats actually what is in our human nature to destroy enemies and ask questions later. Artyom did understand in the end he was wrong, but again hes human like us all.
@ArtMan617 I agree with that statement but also in the book when Artyom realized that the Dark Ones were not completely evil it was already too late and the missiles detonated. The last sentence basically stated him taking off his gas mask and leaving the tower in distraught intending to go back home.
@Femefatal I am actually looking to take and read the book. I enjoyed the game lots and thanks for telling me a more detailed version of the ending I am sure last light will be very interesting based now on artyoms new understanding of things.
H.G. Wells once wrote, "If we do not end wars, wars will end us." Somehow, I ended my war. At the time, I couldn't say what had made me spare the Dark Ones, but I realized that the visions that haunted my journey were their attempts to reach out to us. I don't know if I was the first to communicate with them, but I know I will not be the last. And the future, OUR future, stretches before us like an endless metro tunnel. And maybe, for once, we will deserve the light at the end of that tunnel.
"It's not anymore evil than say - fire. It all depends on your point of view. Try to have a better understanding of it before you make your judgement." Damn, that quote left a mark on my head...
man it sucks that Metro Last light follows to the events of the bad ending. I dont get why they cant just ask you, during the installation of last light, what ending you got, so that install shield wizard may install certain files depending on what you selected.
@94xxxBehemothxxx94 if they did that we would be expecting a late release and the metro 2034 book is based around the dark ones being blown up. and for the console players it would not run (iam a pc player and couldnt really care less about the 360)
@94xxxBehemothxxx94 Sure. But they follow the book's ending, and in its end the dark ones were destroyed by the rockets. (and sorry about my grammar mistakes)
@94xxxBehemothxxx94 yeah but the game has to go some how like the books go and after reading the book after playing the game i was surprised they gave you a choice to save the dark ones at all. but yes very good book if you loved the game you will love the book.
@94xxxBehemothxxx94 They are following the book's ending, and not the ending of the game. In the game, Artyom doesn't really feel bad about killing the Dark Ones (Though he does ask himself if it was the right thing to do) but in the book, he learns the truth seconds before they get killed, and he becomes so sad that he tears off his gas mask to wipe his tears away before heading home. Last Light is a sequel to the book, and not the game
Sorry but they do it like the holy book tells us, in the Book Metro 2033, the Endings are a bit mixed but, Artyom started the Nukes but in flight he realised they were friendly and can't do nothing anymore but see them die
@94xxxBehemothxxx94 Well, the decision you made was actually pretty important, and they simply could not have the budget and resources to make another campaign based on the decision they made. They said this was a minor sacrifice, since according to statistics a minority of players made it to the good ending. I wish it could have followed the good ending as well, but it makes perfect sense to me why it can't.
@94xxxBehemothxxx94 because the 'bad' ending is the planed normal ending to the game whist the 'good' ending is like an extra, when you think about it, what happens to the 50000 people who didn't knwo there where different endings, like me i didn't know the dark ones were good, i thought the ranger ending is the ONLY ending.
You Reap what you Sow Artyom. Force Answers Force,War Breeds War,And Death Brings Only Death. To Break this Vicious Cycle one must do more than Just act Without any Doubt or Thought.
:'( that line makes Me Sad and happy that in the game Artyom Spared the dark ones.
@RadioactiveGrape101 Dude, I have such a love for this series now. You should purchase the book, its in english now and the way the author words is magical.
@RadioactiveGrape101 Too bad Metro: Last Light will catch up after the bad ending in which you kill them!
I can't believe the authors didn't make another storyline... I understand they want to follow the book, but then why illuding us with a good ending and then not letting us continue from that point...
@RadioactiveGrape101 The even more sad thing is that this happens all over the World every day, all because people are too lazy or disobedient to try and work together and understand.
If someone wants something like for example oil(just a example so don't turn this into a talk about war please =/) then they take it, from another person, country and start a war by doing this.
I had the bad ending for this game, I didn't shoot that alien at the end but it kept killing me so had to shoot sadly =/
In Metro: Last Night there wont probably be a choice to continue from good or bad ending cos the book ends with the Dark Ones death so.. i guess no more Dark Ones :c
It's a shame that the 'good' ending of the game is, in reality, what never happened. It's a 'what if?'.
In the book, Artyom finally realises, just as the missiles are flying, that the Dark Ones never wanted War. They wished to work together with Humanity to create a new world. The missiles then impact and destroy the Dark Ones, He pretty much starts crying, The book had a lot more impact than the game, with the revelation on the final pages. In the game, he sits there sadly.
@beneath1111 Sorry about that. I would have thought that anyone listening to this would have finished the game, as the book has a similar outcome to the 'bad' ending, although with some differences like I detailed in my previous comment. I got the book after I had completed the game, and there were a lot of different things in it that were only mentioned or not present in the game.
@DarkBladeAngel I think that Metro 2033's bad ending is supposed to be the canon one in relation to Last Light. The author of the books is assisting the team making the game, but it is supposed to have no relation to the books. In any case, destroying the dark ones is what was supposed to happen, you could consider the good ending more of an easter egg.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM You've got a pretty good point. Personally, I'm hoping that since the events of Last Light (or at least what we know) are non-canon anyway, sparing the Dark Ones will be the canon ending for the games. If the bad ending from the game was the same as the ending from the book (complete with Artyom snapping) I'd be all for it, but since the good ending is considerably more powerful now I'm hoping for it.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM Well, I never played the game but I watched the walkthrough before getting the book. I'm gonna get the game soon though and the second book before the second game XP.
And You're right. Some things weren't mentioned in the game nor in the book.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM I totally agree with your point but I think that the people who have read the book (or at least know how the book ends) can finally see a good ending that has come true, something that on the book (sadly) doesn't happen, even though this creates a major impact. It's still a good ending for someone that wants to believe in a better ending.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM True, through words messages can be conveyed in many ways, and what you imagine, is what you see. Though through a forced visulisation what you see is what you get. Words may not be, but feeling and soul is the same in every language.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM i think the book had a deeper impact, because of techniqual problems. Not every developer can make good emotions, just a few, and i think you agree with me that characters in metro 2033 felt not so emotional than in other games.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM That is a deeply touching ending. This is as well. I only wish that they would make the sequel with the Save the Dark Ones ending from Metro 2033 as the canon ending. It's not such a leap of logic. Artyom is an intelligent man and can put two and two together. Admittedly I have not read the book but regardless the good ending from the game could be easily written without being cheesy. It could be a beacon of hope in a shattered world.
@theQuestion626 but the book came first so cannon would be what was in the book really and what Dimitry would have wanted they had to stick within certain peramitters and plot lines.
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM wow i hate thumbs up now haha this has completely spoiled the ending of the book for me now... haha oh well still an amazing story and am still working my way through the book :D
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM Same thing with last light, Dmitry (now employed as 4A's story writer) is going in the direction Metro 2034 is but keeping it a different story, But The Dark ones were killed :( *sniffles*
Metro last light has been confirmed that the bad ending was canon (Where Artyom destroys the Dark Ones), and that throughout the game you will be following Artyom, NOT playing as him.
this game made me wonder what is actually going to happen in the future will we be flying about in rocketcars or stuck down in metros like rats fighting for our lives
@xionsith123 I would agree. The game's good ending gives you a feeling that humanity can overcome the stupidity that led to the nuclear war in the first place.
Finished the game with good ending, almost finished the book, waiting on English version of Metro 2034 (can't read Russian that well), and hopefully all of the Metro Universe books will get eventually translated. Then of course the game version of Metro 2034...
@EdwardVonFishington there are about for book in the series metro 2033, metro 2033: peter, metro 2033: light and metro 2034, but metro 2034 hasn't been translated yet
@EdwardVonFishington No, the game only covers Metro 2033, also you could look it up, Metro 2034 is already out, just no English translations are out yet.
The ending of the novel was horrible (not like badly written, I mean just plain cruel), he's on top of the tower with 2 other guys (one was Ulman) and about to kill the dark ones, and then he realizes that the dark ones were actually the only hope the people in the metro have for living like they used to, and then a second later the missiles kill them all, yea kinda cruel.
@mdude009 yes but in the soon to be translated metro 2034, there is a chance that some dark ones still live, or it was they were eradicated, my (Russian) unucle wasn't to clear on the tranlation of the novel
I've just finished this game, and I have to say this is the BEST FPS/ADVENTURE game I've ever played =)! But I was wondering, the voice of the teller in this game, is it the same voice actor guy as in Stalker Shadows of Chernobyl =) ? If yes or no, could some one please tell me his name :P?
@JackTRProductions yes, but in the good ending he actually understands that the dark ones want peace rather than war, and they want to collaborate with people, and there is still hope for humanity, so his journey is kinda worth it. And BTW, gosh I love the slightly off-tune guitar in this track, it gives it unique beautiful and sad sound!
@SpartanJA17 No, it's not the rythm in question here. It's that one of the guitar's strings is made to sound a bit lower (or higher) than it needs to, giving a small dissonance to the whole piece. Which is a nice touch.

The missiles then impact and destroy the Dark Ones, He pretty much starts crying, The book had a lot more impact than the game, with the revelation on the final pages. In the game, he sits there sadly.

@BRODIECUNNINGHAM That I can very much agree. But do you really have to spoil for the people who never brought the book or haven't finished it yet.
(I have already finished it though)
beneath1111 7 months ago
@beneath1111 Sorry about that. I would have thought that anyone listening to this would have finished the game, as the book has a similar outcome to the 'bad' ending, although with some differences like I detailed in my previous comment. I got the book after I had completed the game, and there were a lot of different things in it that were only mentioned or not present in the game.

@BRODIECUNNINGHAM Which ending do you think will be canon in Last Light?
DarkBladeAngel 7 months ago
@DarkBladeAngel I think that Metro 2033's bad ending is supposed to be the canon one in relation to Last Light. The author of the books is assisting the team making the game, but it is supposed to have no relation to the books. In any case, destroying the dark ones is what was supposed to happen, you could consider the good ending more of an easter egg.
BRODIECUNNINGHAM 7 months ago
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM You've got a pretty good point. Personally, I'm hoping that since the events of Last Light (or at least what we know) are non-canon anyway, sparing the Dark Ones will be the canon ending for the games. If the bad ending from the game was the same as the ending from the book (complete with Artyom snapping) I'd be all for it, but since the good ending is considerably more powerful now I'm hoping for it.
Plus I'm a sucker for happy endings.
DarkBladeAngel 7 months ago
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM Well, I never played the game but I watched the walkthrough before getting the book. I'm gonna get the game soon though and the second book before the second game XP.
And You're right. Some things weren't mentioned in the game nor in the book.

@BRODIECUNNINGHAM I totally agree with your point but I think that the people who have read the book (or at least know how the book ends) can finally see a good ending that has come true, something that on the book (sadly) doesn't happen, even though this creates a major impact. It's still a good ending for someone that wants to believe in a better ending.

@BRODIECUNNINGHAM I thought he was cursing ulman and danila, and the ripped off his gas mask and went home.

@BRODIECUNNINGHAM
Gotta agree with you, when I read the book it was very sad in the end.
Jackal739 6 months ago
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM That is a deeply touching ending. This is as well. I only wish that they would make the sequel with the Save the Dark Ones ending from Metro 2033 as the canon ending. It's not such a leap of logic. Artyom is an intelligent man and can put two and two together. Admittedly I have not read the book but regardless the good ending from the game could be easily written without being cheesy. It could be a beacon of hope in a shattered world.
theQuestion626 6 months ago
@theQuestion626 but the book came first so cannon would be what was in the book really and what Dimitry would have wanted they had to stick within certain peramitters and plot lines.
wolfe2606 6 months ago
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM wow i hate thumbs up now haha this has completely spoiled the ending of the book for me now... haha oh well still an amazing story and am still working my way through the book :D
wolfe2606 6 months ago
@BRODIECUNNINGHAM Same thing with last light, Dmitry (now employed as 4A's story writer) is going in the direction Metro 2034 is but keeping it a different story, But The Dark ones were killed :( *sniffles*
pvtSgtSmiley 6 months ago
Metro last light has been confirmed that the bad ending was canon (Where Artyom destroys the Dark Ones), and that throughout the game you will be following Artyom, NOT playing as him.

this game made me wonder what is actually going to happen in the future will we be flying about in rocketcars or stuck down in metros like rats fighting for our lives
llamalover560 8 months ago
@xionsith123 I would agree. The game's good ending gives you a feeling that humanity can overcome the stupidity that led to the nuclear war in the first place.

Finished the game with good ending, almost finished the book, waiting on English version of Metro 2034 (can't read Russian that well), and hopefully all of the Metro Universe books will get eventually translated. Then of course the game version of Metro 2034...
I've got a lot of waiting to do.

@EdwardVonFishington there are about for book in the series metro 2033, metro 2033: peter, metro 2033: light and metro 2034, but metro 2034 hasn't been translated yet

the game was good, BUT the the book was better

@EdwardVonFishington I have to say Metro 2033 has been translated perfectly, I didn't notice anything off when I read the book.
mdude009 10 months ago
@EdwardVonFishington No, the game only covers Metro 2033, also you could look it up, Metro 2034 is already out, just no English translations are out yet.
P.S. There's going to be a third book?

The ending of the novel was horrible (not like badly written, I mean just plain cruel), he's on top of the tower with 2 other guys (one was Ulman) and about to kill the dark ones, and then he realizes that the dark ones were actually the only hope the people in the metro have for living like they used to, and then a second later the missiles kill them all, yea kinda cruel.
mdude009 10 months ago
@mdude009 yes but in the soon to be translated metro 2034, there is a chance that some dark ones still live, or it was they were eradicated, my (Russian) unucle wasn't to clear on the tranlation of the novel

I've just finished this game, and I have to say this is the BEST FPS/ADVENTURE game I've ever played =)! But I was wondering, the voice of the teller in this game, is it the same voice actor guy as in Stalker Shadows of Chernobyl =) ? If yes or no, could some one please tell me his name :P?
JohanOlsson 11 months ago
@JackTRProductions yes, but in the good ending he actually understands that the dark ones want peace rather than war, and they want to collaborate with people, and there is still hope for humanity, so his journey is kinda worth it. And BTW, gosh I love the slightly off-tune guitar in this track, it gives it unique beautiful and sad sound!
ta666ak666 11 months ago
@ta666ak666 its called cross rythems in musical terms, the off tune guitar crossing the music under it :)
SpartanJA17 11 months ago
@SpartanJA17 No, it's not the rythm in question here. It's that one of the guitar's strings is made to sound a bit lower (or higher) than it needs to, giving a small dissonance to the whole piece. Which is a nice touch.
