Yeah I think he knows that, as there are hundreds of books in EU (Expanded Universe) that take place across the scope in the star wars universe time line.

The Empress (Keira Knightley) when she was a little girl (Natalie Portman) she was found and raised by Darth Vader. After he and Sidious died, she decided to take over and avenge Vader. Does that make any sense? :)
