he's reinacting a scene from Season 3 episode 3 - Bad Day at Black Rock. A cursed object (rabits foot) gives him amazingly bad luck n one of the incidents is where he steps on gum. So he tries 2 scrap it off using like this broken vent in the ground (while Deans on the phone w/Bobby) n bcuz of the bad luck, he drops his shoe in the vent. Dean turns around and Sams standing there lukng like a sad puppy. Deans like : "what's wrong" Sam answers in this really adorable sad voice "I lost my shoe".
