The purpose of a bridge, any bridge, especially this one has always been deeper than mere transportation of resources between two points. To go into detail what I'm talking about would require a whole doctoral thesis if not more - not a lot of space here unfortunately. So I will just simply say this - if one wants world peace, one must reconcile and build or rebuild the bridges inside before reaching out to the world.
We need this policy orientation more than ever. The threat of new great wars, which the British and their American puppets are aiming at Russia and China (via Syria and Iran), shows that a totally new paradigm of economic and diplomatic vision is required.
This was the topic of a conference held by the international Schiller Institute in Berlin, at the end of last month: schiller-institut.de/seiten/201202-berlin/konferenz.html
In deed, this is a sad paradox in the evolution of humans. For how is it that ancient cavemen of MILLENIUMS ago is able to cross this measly gap(yes it was a different world then), but - in retrospect - humans today can't manage it given the advancements in technologies available today? I mean c'mon, its not like we're still paddling around in canoes and pulling sleds here.
Seems to me that tunnels and/or covered highways and rails would be the only practical method of construction for such a cold climate that is always subject to blizzard conditions in winter. A major highway would be impossible to use in winter without protection from the weather, and 911 calls would take hours to answer. Have they considered those scenarios?
I love how the normal response to proposals like these is that it is not feasible... why? We can eventually solve all of the technical problems. It might not "be feasible" under the current politico-economic system. But hell, look around you, that system is crumbling to dust... It's inevitable, this is the next evolutionary step.
The actual original report and proposal by Frank Didik for the Trans Global Highway can be found at "trans global highway.com" (typed without the spaces).
I feel like the human race will destroy itself long before it recognizes this kind of potential. For thousands of years we've never been able to get along and we probably never will. The greatest we could ever hope for would be something like this at a state or mabey a national level, but never international.
If the Bering Strait Bridge is Possible and only open during the Summer Time, why don't we have Four stationed ships next to the bridge to ensure safety for Bridge Crossers. Its like having Parachutes on the Plane. The Ship Riser can reach Bridge Level to Pick Up Cars During Emergencies. That way we can drive from South America to North America, Through Canada to Alaska Crossing the Bridge to Russia, Asia, Europe Middle East and Africa during summer time.
Bering Strait tunnel is about Oil more than transportation...god I hope if this happened, the Oil line would mess up and they could have a huge spill in Bering Sea. We could destroy King Crab fishing and that entire ecosystem. The only risk is giving access to illegal American & Canadian immigrants who might try to sneak over into Siberia & China.
@ECWnWWF dude fuck crab fish...if we had more cultural exchange ppl will stop buying the wars that are imposed upon them by corporation thru media propoganda
@ECWnWWF yeah. sneaking across the rio grande and sneaking across a 20m wide bridge that runs for hundreds of km across barren wasteland is a different thing. Illegals would freeze long before they make it across on foot.
@roygbiv330 The professor's comments are too broad, I'd rather hear about the actual tunnel and how they'll keep the water out and the illegal immigrants out too !

@ECWnWWF I dont see why Americans and Canadians would want to illegally enter Russia or China. It would be the other way around.

the first professor's comments lacked persuasiveness in a point that the globalization will be active.
