  • Actaully Rosa Parks, if you listen to an interview of her, was tired and didn't want to give up her seat. Not quite as noble as your history book puts it. But it still started a movement.

  • lol they kept the same furniture and food until now

  • @Sistarovat - I don't believe it's a case that whites didn't go and "sit-in" but at the time, the white population had (and some still have) a sense of entitlement that they could go and do as they pleased. The media was extremely biased to white rights and when blacks "acted out" they were either imprisoned or beaten then imprisioned. Look at Rosa Parks who was imprisioned and fined just because she didn't want to give up her seat and felt she shouldn't.

  • I think what the men and women did during The Civil Rights movement was incredible. @Cortchubby it wasn't just blacks that protested in the Montgomery Bus Boycott, it wasn't just blacks that believed their rights were violated, but some of our forefathers believed the same. However, it is people who are of the same mind set as you that cause hate where there should be love and understanding.

  • The blacks that mess things up should be made into windchimes. The black community needs to stop blaming everyone else for their shortcomings.

  • So all Blacks shouldnt be able to go somewhere because some Blacks like to mess things up. Thats stupid! There are white people that mess things up too. You cant put everyone in a box. Haha...well the people with the ignorant comments, Maybe if whites didnt still Blacks from their own land we wouldnt be here messing all of your stuff (built on stolen land) up.

  • @ThyJovan Pride and equality have nothing in common. Why would whites want to go into the black quarters when they had their own restaurants to go to?

  • FAce it. Blacks DESTROY every place they occupy then try to blame anyone else for it. Im all for segregation. Stay where you belong and mess THAT up dont come to other areas and mess it up because youre black and you think you can.

  • @cortchubbby I hope you're not serious.

  • @ThyJovan dont think so? Look at Detroit and Chicago. Then you tell me.

  • @cortchubbby No, I don't need examples, you're generalising is what sickens me, you need to change pal.

I thought you were some dumbass troll but you're just one of the ones we lost.

  • @cortchubbby I can not believe you. All you are is a racist jerk who needs to get a life. I pray that God helps you and continues to help you through your hardened heart!

  • Yawn....now you apes are going buck wild in Dennys and other places. So much for your progress. THERE SHOULD BE SEGREGATION.Places would be safer if you mutt dog bastards stayed in your own place.Which is NOT in white areas.

  • Blacks had just as much right to open their restaurants and deny access to non-blacks. Many of them did. You just don't hear about them because whites didn't go there and "sit in".

  • @Sistarovat So you're saying the white people had no pride, no sense of equality?

  • Good for them ! I'm white and think its horrible that ppl were or wree not served because of their color. And no, im not a "bleeding heart liberal" I'm a Christian and Jesus commands us to "love your neighbors as you love yourselves. "

  • Socialization everyone has to get their minds right.....so everyone is happy right?

I remember the WoolWorth Chains, This was AMAZING, THX !!

  • With so many grammatical errors, I wonder if this ignorant user is even worthy to reply to.

    ----

How does a person so ignorant, illiterate and uncultured manage to live each day in this world?

    Such a mystery.

  • Jason, i here what you are saying about their own resturants, but that would have created more problems. We were trying to unite eachother. Not seperate our races further away from each other.

  • I would've gone to a sit-in. Damn it. I want to lead my own civil rights movement. But on whom?

    o_0

  • That's the dumbest comment I've read so far today. It's similar to the one that said, "I am glad Lennon and King are dead."

    Why are people so stupid?

  • Ahhh, how I long for the good ole days

  • Spending the money or eating there wasn't the point; they were taking the fight where it needed to be...just like they boycotted the buses in Alabama. You have black citizens either being getting beat up or killed for having their own businesses or getting or killed for refusing to be second class citizens.

Btw, it's easy to spout off at the mouth about what blacks should or shouldn't have done during that time when you're reaping the benefits of their struggle.

  • shut the hell up

  • so glad majority of white people have evolved into better humans because this was B.S

  • Thank you psychediva for posting this! I'm a high school US History teacher and will be linking one of my class lessons to this :-)

  • I AM A WOOLWORTH!!!!!!!! im dead seriouss! that was one of my family members that owned the woolworth's! my name is madison woolworth.

  • I loved the old Woolworth stores!

  • Where did it all go wrong then? The UK division (Woolworths PLC) will be closed by 5th Jan 2009. I belive you guys in the U.S lost your stores in 1997.

  • Still going strong in Germany apparently!

  • I believe you! No need to shout! I believe you already knew that at one time the F.W. Woolworth lunch counters constituted the largest restaurant chain in the world. I miss those stores and actually shed a tear when the US stores closed in 1997.
