ya, listen to the guy, keep redlining engine, and keep having to rebuild it every 3years.bet you redline boy goes through cars like oprah goes through cheeseburgers.
as im reading these comments about, "max horsepower" and "max torque" at 6500 rpms, it doesnt matter. 1st gear youll hit 60 kmh where you shift, but the other guy is gunna hit 65-70 redlining that fucker out, so hes gunna go into second with higher revs, and more horsepower than you. also with less turbo lag.
But, as far as optimum shift points, the gearing must also be considered. By that I mean the tq multiplication through the drivetraine. That involves how much force "tq" , is available at the wheels in "X" gear @ "X" rpm VS. what is available @ X rpm in the next gear. Not the most simple thing in the world actually. Unless the tq curve looks like the edge of a cliff like a stock mazdaspeed 3/6.
HP is a function of torque, though it is relevant to performance. HP is a measurement of how fast work is getting done, but is not the only important number. TQ is the ONLY thing turning the drivetraine. If you used an accelerometer to measure the rate of acceleration through a gear, say 3rd, then place the results on a graph. It will most closely resemble the tq curve on a dyno graph, trailing off slightly with the hp curve toward the end.
@Rolnicka16 What is the song called ... ???? u mean ... just try searching all the kosheen.. i still havent figured it out ..... and im not hating on the dude's z
BECAUSE! You fall out of the powerband in the next gear, the turbos are spining for optimum boost after 5krpm, you're not pulling a trailer - torque doesnt matter a fuck. Dont take my word for it - try your 1/4 miles shifting at 7
@Enderwiggan1 torque doesnt matter a fuck? torque is everything. torque is the power it takes to turn your wheels. horsepower is another measurement of torque. for every horsepower your car makes your car generates 550 ft/lbs of torque per second. so torque does matter....a fuck
@NicholasBouchard Torque is everything? Well why dont they measure engine power in it then? Oh you obviously know better than the motor industry. In high reving engines torque its not even considered besause it drops off at high revs while bhp is still increasing. People who drive tractors worry about torque. :-)
@Enderwiggan1 1. engine power IS measured in torque, its called ft/lbs. its the second measurement everyone announces after horsepower, and 2. as i said once before, horsepower is another measurement of torque. torque is the force it takes to turn the wheels.
@NicholasBouchard I know exactly what torque is!! As you say yourself its the SECOND measurement of power after bhp which is a much more relevant measurement to performance. If torque is more important why aren't foot pounds discussed in every single performance discussion? Anyway safe driving - Im done
I have a quick question. I'm looking into a 1990 300zx the boost gage goes from -7 to +7. I've seen some that go -14 to +14 is that after market or what does that mean? more boost stock? Help please.
astonishing car! i will never forget the first time i saw this one at the gas station. but you'll get competition again when i'm back from the states in may.

To clarify: torque is the derivative of horsepower with respect to engine speed (rpm)

at 6.500 hp and torque are already fallen, so, wiseguy, why dont shift, and have full hp and torque again???

Cannot try, we have winter. But I contacted the ones that did the setup on my car and they told me you´re right!
I´ve learned another lesson, so thanks! (allthough you named me woman)

Hi! Guess there is a difference between european and US/Japan-cockpits.
I can only say, the stock-boost is equal between all worldwide ZX.
The original boost gauge isn´t quite good, by the way...
Alfapatrick 2 years ago
i cant help but answer straight up but its probably for when you add the boost, it might come with the kit.
im gonna have an electric turbo on my zx in a few months so i cant wait for the boost

how com u didnt rev her out more? does the torque curve drop off around 7k rpm?
12345tou 3 years ago
could have rev it out to 7k, but it goes best when shifting around 6,5...Yes, it drops over
6...
