@smarty12421 - I think they are Tiger Lotus and sold as dried out bulbs in many aquarium stores. Not all the bulbs end up germinating but when you get a healthy handful of lily plants, they will propagate smaller bulbs over your tank--not sure how since it doesn't flower but I find these little bulbs now and again, each with it's own baby lily plant. These come in green and auburn color--a great contrast from other types of aquarium plants and are super easy to grow.
Nice and simple yet it works thanks. I just added some cherry shrimps to my planted 55 gallon and hope to one day have so many that I need to remove some.
will my ghost shrimp kill my red cherry shrimp i'm going to buy? if o, i'll use a trap ike this to get rid of my ghosts and give them to my friend who is dying yo get some.
@Robbybox333 my friend did not want them, so he let me use his female betta for a week, and sure enough, they are all gone now! lol. now i have restocked with RCS, which are shy little things, but man are they pretty, even the males are 10X better the GS. much better! Good luck! :D
great video but that damn etard music makes me want to take those scissors and shove them into my ear canal. why does everyone have to have music on their videos? its a diy vid just leave the music out so we can hear you better or at least not use techno, especially when its loud like that. another good idea would be to caption everything you say so we are not forced to hear it. personally id rather just hear you speaking though
Beautiful tank! What kind of filtration system do you need for Red Cherry Shrimp? I have a Aqua Clear filter and although I do not see any shrimp bodies in there when I clean it (I have a net on it to prevent sucking in guppy babies) I do not see many shrimp. I have a 10 gallon heavily planted tank with guppies and a cory catfish, added 20 RCS about a month ago and only see two. Do RCS need a filter in there tank or any ariation?
Hey thanks. Until they start to breed, you probably won't see them that much because they like to hide. Make sure you have a foam filter sponge on your aquaclear intake! You do not need aeration and almost any filter is adequate. Hopefully, your tank is fully cycled because their tolerance for bad water chemistry is low. Also, hopefully temps for you don't get too high.
Thanks dude! DIY CO2 is from yeast mixed with sugar water in a 2L plastic bottle. You still need some way to get the co2 diffused. Some put it in the canister filter intake or a ceramic diffuser. While cheap to get going, yeast CO2 in the long run is a lot of work, and may end up costing you more. I would get pressurized CO2. It is expensive to start with, but refills are cheap! Sounds like your have a good tank to do a lot of stuff in.
@zainkam1 - with the cichlids you have a planted tank is a bad bad idea. save yourself the frustration and buy fake plants if you plan on keeping those fish in there. most cichlids dig and are just too rough on gravel and plants. just put some fake plants in there and see how long it takes for them to be drifting along the bottom of the tank
i would love to have your tank tanks like this with shrimp mabe some rams eels like peacocks and everything would be awesom perfect breeding ground for everything i just started my 10 gallon into a planted and its only been bout a half week but its alright i would eventually make my 55 and 90gallon like your tank one day :) beautiful tank
Thanks. You will love planted tanks. You can do a lot more with a larger tank but even your 10 gallon can be great. My tank is different now but in this one, I had amazon sword, scarlet temple, glosstigma, HM, Java fern, lily pad apogenten, anubias, and a couple of others.
Wow. Thanks for the confidence boost. I guess my shrimp are not so dumb after all. I'm going to try to get the last 3 tomorrow. I don't dare to leave it in overnight since it's a shrimp only tank with a sponge filter I'm afraid the water in the trap will become toxic.
I've been trying all day to catch 2 amanos and 7 red cherries. Mine are either smarter than yours or dumber. Only been able to get about 1 shrimp per hour. Baited with shrimp pellets and algae wafers..
the capture is not 100%...not even close. I probably have 200+ shrimp in my tank and get only about 75 by leaving the trap in overnight. BTW, leaving the trap in overnight did not appear to be problematic.
thanks man! We have some Dark Red Crayfish in the river near our house (which for some reason these Cray fish are faster then Others) but I placed the bottle in the river, went back to my house for about 5 hours and 30 min. And Came back with 6 Adult Red Crayfish, 3 Babies, and 1 Female. I kept 1 Male and 1 Female for breeding and now I have them running around my beautiful 10G Tank :) They haven't fought since their male + female.
I see. I also have had a sunfish for about two years, what do you feed yours because mine has grown too big for the small food I gave. However, It does not seem to like anything else. Any ideas on how to switch foods?
I feed my sunfish Tetra freeze-dried jumbo krill, ripped up pieces of shrimp, and occasionally some garden worms and insects. My bluegill is not very picky.
Well it worked for catching them... I caught at least 30 cherries in minutes (didn't feed the day before, so the trap was a shrimp magnet!) but it also worked for catching ancistrus, Amanos & my betta. Hmmmm...
What do you use as your micro nutrients fertelizer? I have CSM+B now but that is 0.10% copper. Seachems Trace has only 0.0001% copper, would that be safe?
Sorry mate I meant how any shrimp have you put in the tank and do you have more or less then when you started? Like I put 5 guppies in my tank and I now have about 20.
I started out with about 10 shrimp. There is over one hundred in the tank and I periodically take some out. Funny, I never had good success with guppies.
do you know the estimated time from when the mother has eggs to when she gives birth? I have 2 females and one male I just bought and put in a 40G tank and I'm wondering when the babies will come :D
sounds good. A 10 gallon you say? Thats pretty good. I have a 12G nano cube that has no fish but a lot of plants. Once I clean it out and get the PH levels right, I think I'm going to setup a shrimp breeding ground.
The store sells these shrimp for $4 each which is expensive! I want to see if they will purchase some back if I make babies lol
As long as you have males/females and favorable conditions, they will breed easily and abundantly. By "favorable", I mean no predatory fish, clean water, food, etc.
Hikari algae wafers are readily accepted but really they will eat almost anything. Many products have copper sulfate as an ingredient which you do not want. With a a heavily planted tank and some algae, you do not necessarily even need to supplement them with food.
How does the top part stay on? Sticky tape or Wat?
ishy2217 6 days ago
@ishy2217 - the lid stays on by sheer weight. Unless you have a lot of current in your tank, it should not be a problem.
