i think Buddy's Roger drums sounded the best and he played them in a different style. it may be subtle, but i think most "Buddynuts" (like myself) will agree.
@MrZol I prefer the Slingerland kits myself. Don't get me wrong, Rogers have, and still do make epic drums. But when I hear someone say Buddy Rich's drums, or Vintage drums in general, I think of Slingerland.
Someone commented on another clip that Buddy's playing was not melodic. This clip proves the contrary. Often Buddy's own band in the later years got stuck in a commercial rut, and his playing suffered from dependence on cliches, most notoriously the long West Side Story solo. But when he had new ideas, nobody could be more melodic on a drum set. Another melodic drummer with excellent technique was Joe Morello.
Yes, many wonderful drummers to be inspired by, the likes of Louie Bellson, Shelley Mann, Ed Shawnessy, Joe and more.... all of which could be critiqued for things like time, melody, technique etc. by any number of self-apponted critic/experts. Myself, I'd rather enjoy listening, watching, and learn from the greats than criticize them. There was only one Buddy though!!!!

funny how years later Buddy critisised the matching grip claiming it to be
impractical yet here he is using it for the majority of his solo!

that Rogers bass drum is so awesome and consistent on many of the Buddy videos! and whole as a matter of fact! wish he would have stuck with Rogers.
