Not sure my local course will allow me to bring a yellow dump truck on to the fairway.
Its a great little video though, my only concern is that you dont hit a shot with a proper ball to show the extent of the fade, the weight difference in the plastic balls and authentic balls will surely make the shot harder
Great job with the video, thanks for keeping it simple. There are too many instructions out there which make the task seem much more difficult. I am posting a link from my blog, I will send a track-back.
God bless you brother. Wonderful demonstration and verbalization skill !!! Don't want to hack up my lawn though so I'll save it for the range. Thanks again for explaining it so well. A+++!
@bigsteele58. For ur driver it could be ur right shoulder closes ur stance. Make sure ur right shoulder is not in front of ur left. It cured my sliced driving.
i don't agree with this much really... not that im a pro. If one has an inside swing path and then opens the club face, he will hit a weak slice or block a shot out to the right. there will be no control whatsoever. If someone cuts the ball and opens the face... they will most likely hit a legendary banana... so opening the club face will just de-loft the club more than anything else. Swing track is more important b/c it determines the angle in which your face slides over the ball.
Thanks much for the instruction! I've hit quite a few fades before and had no clue of how I had done it. I've been looking for how to do so and also a draw! So now I know what to practice when I go in the yard. LOL. Anyways, any tips on fixing a slice with my driver??? It's the only thing I experience problems with a slice on. Thanks again.
to draw a driver can be trouble. He is correct when he says that it will lower the angle of the face, so your 9 degree driver may end up like a putter face. best shot for a good draw off the tee for myself is a 3 iron. you will get good distance from it, and it will make things easier.
@WolfieTed he is not correct. he is taken a page of jack book and teaching people how to aim not hitting draw or fade.example if you aim right and close club face back to the original target and have a bad out sise in swing you will hit a pull hook.the orther way you will slice or shank the ball
@MrAsiangolf Yeah I hear ya, But I have had trouble in the past with trying to draw off the tee. I can put a mild fade on the ball but an array of fucked up shot normally occour when trying to draw. lol
@MrAsiangolf thats what i was thinking. EVERYONE else. (nicklaus, harrington, els) all say more importance is the foot placement. why would you have a straight line up to hit a curve shot. makes sense that to accentuate the curve YOU HAVE TO DO THE SAME WITH YOUR STANCE. just bring your right foot forward or back 2-3 inch and then see the difference. watch the pros man, the hardly ever have a parallel stance.
@WolfieTed if you know the right way you can draw a 9degree driver any time not only you draw but also a high draw , acute draw ,swippen draw, power draw
I tried it (with the little white plastic balls) and real balls. It seem to work great for producing a fade, but when I tried to make it draw, it went straight. I get the point...just didn't happen for me. Any suggestions????? Also, it looked on the video that that his stance/feet were both on the same line, but no mention of it, or ball placement, etc.
the key to using this method is that "everything" is exactly the same as what you normally do for a regular straight shot. the only difference is that the clubface is aiming to the left or the right at your target where you want the ball to end up.
@craigbell3440 That is because you swing path is out to in throught the ball. It will fade or slice ok but straight on the draw as the closed club face just matches the out to in path of the swing.
Hmm... Doesn't quite work for me. But I do hit very long, straight shots down the line my body is aiming when i align myself for a draw with this method.
Just turn the clubface to where you want the ball to end up, and set your body toward where you want the ball to start out? Thats it? You don't have to make any changes in grip, stance, ball position, etc?
correct. just imagine hitting a normal straight shot at the pin. now imagine another target to the left that you want to hit with the golf ball; just close the clubface so that it's aimed to the left where you want the ball to go and then regrip so that your hands are in your normal hitting position and then swing away. the ball will go straight initially and then start turning to where the face pointed.
make sure you regrip the club after you point the clubface at the target. it's very important to still have a proper grip even though the clubface isn't pointing down the target line.
He doesn't say this in the video but if you watch the text it is in there.
as mentioned in blitz451 comment, the grip is important. if all you do is rotate your forarms to point the clubface and then swing, your clubface will be straight at impact. when you've aimed the clubface, you need to regrip to your normal swing grip position so that it looks like your hands are in the correct position but the clubface isnt lined up straight, but it pointing at your target.
yeah i did that and now I can hit the draw pretty decent but the fade isnt working for me. Im using these plastic balls like you are but doesnt fade right, it feels like im hitting a flop shot or something and getting under it making backspin but not sidespin
try this. try opening the clubface on a 3 iron and hit the shot. if that works then remember this. you get more sidespin from clubs with the least amount of loft. a driver will give more sidespin than a 7 iron. anytime you open the clubface you add loft and there is a point when you no longer get any sidespin and all you do is hit a lob shot.
I am a 19 handicapper and have never seen the importance of learning how to draw. Is it really important to improve my game? I just don't see how it is necessary to improve my game unless say I was a 10 handicapper. Anyway good video, must try this out.
If you learn how to control the ball on a regular basis, you can hit a fade or draw on every shot to maximize your chance for success for example if the pin is on the right side of the green, shoot at the middle of the green with a slight fade. If you hit the shot correctly, the ball will fade into the pin position for a close putt. If you mishit the shot chances are it will got straight and end up in the middle of the green still putting.
any one who watches this video and thinks its good, you need to go take a lesson from some one who knows what they r doing u never want to open or close your club face u can do it with your grip. weak or strong or with your stance u want tthe club to be spuare with your target at all time!!!
watch and learn from the master. one swing for every shot. the only change for a fade or draw is opening or closing the clubface. you tube video id 4smKIu2uARU
This lesson works folks. Im a horrible shot these days (used to hit in the mid 40s and I have picked up bad habits which I am working out ) but I tried this at the range and it worked first try. Both styles. Really useful in the midwest where trees along the fairway are in play.
Its so simple - just remember not to muscle the shot or youll push it then it will track your new target line.
Any smarmy "golf pro" would crack you $300 easy for a lesson like this.
Then tell that to Jack Nicklaus because in his video "Golf My Way", that is the technique he teaches; one swing for all golf shots and opening or closing the clubface to produce a fade or draw. For proof, look at the youtube video "Nicklaus Golf My Way - One Basic Swing ID 4smKIu2uARU
I tried this in my backyard ,as you look at my house from the back the garage is on the right, and vise-versa from th front.I was able (with a plastic ball)to hit a draw from the backyard to the front garden and a fade from the front garden to the back again,it actualy works thanks!
well I tried it today at the range, and for some reason I would just hit the ball to the area I was facing, no draw or anything. Idk, I regripped the club and had the clubface pointed to the target as well.
Thanks for this tip. I watched it over and over before it finally sunk in as to what to do. The club changing confused me but I understand now. Thanks you've helped me a lot.
Do you know if this is the technique most pros use? I'm just curious because my favorite golfer, Rocco Mediate tends to always play a draw and I'd be curious to know if this is the method he uses. It's hard to tell when just watching golf. But I'll have to give this a try because I've been trying to learn how to hit a draw, but haven't had much luck.
depends on the pro. I learned this technique from Jack Nicklaus in his video "Golf My Way"
Some other pros teach a different technique which changes your feet position, swing plane, takeaway and followthrough. More complicated but works as well.
Pros all play a natural fade or draw as part of a regular shot, however they all work the ball on most of their shots to increase their odds by intentionally hitting a draw or fade. depending on the course layout.
It works the same with every club. The only thing you have to remember is that the more loft a club has, the less sidespin it will apply to the ball to make it fade or draw so the easiest club to hit a fade or draw with is the driver because it has the least amount of loft. Thats why when you need to hit a straight shot in the fairway, its easier to use a fairway wood or iron because if you mishit it, the ball won't turn as far to the left or right as a driver would. Make sense?
Hitting the ball this way will shape it left or right. But this isn't a draw or fade this is a deliberate hook or slice, there is actually a difference.
The only difference between a Fade and a Slice verses a Draw and a Hook is the amount of turn that you achieve. You use the exact same technique whether you want the ball to turn 5,10 or 50 yards.
For a good definition of a "draw" and how to play it, search "Learn How to Hit a Draw - The Most Powerful Shot in Golf", you'll see that some points are quite different.
You're referring to Bobby Eldridge from PurePoint Golf. My technique is from Jack Nicklauses Video "Golf My Way." There are more than one technique to create a draw. You pick which one you like. That's one thing about golf is there is not just one way to execute any shot, no matter what the shot is as there are different opinions on every shot
thanks, ive already learned that technique but you just helped me a bit by verifying that all of it was right and you also taught me to go up a couple clubs to control distance
Not sure my local course will allow me to bring a yellow dump truck on to the fairway.
Its a great little video though, my only concern is that you dont hit a shot with a proper ball to show the extent of the fade, the weight difference in the plastic balls and authentic balls will surely make the shot harder
