Im proud of you I really like when people are proud of who they are and dont feel the need to change themselves or their children. when it comes down to it, genes determine your hair and if your not happy with that, you are not happy with your identity.
I have flat hair like chinese people but when I was younger I always curled it and tried to make it look like full thick and poofy coarse black hair bc I think its beautiful and frames the face nd looks strong. I used to wear a headband w it.
I KNOW WHY BECAUSE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WITH THICK HAIR BESIDES SOME INDIANS , PORTARICANS AND EVEN SOME WHITES BUT EVERY BLACK PERSON HAS THIS THICK HAIR AND WE'VE BEEN LOOKED ON AS DIFFERENT FOR IT SO TO BE LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE WE PERM OR COVER IT UP AND THTS WHY BLACK PEOPLE HATE THEIR HAIR
I don't know where it came from, but I can tell you this. When I first cut off the perm, most white people seemed fascinated; not in a negative way, but more like "Wow, how neat!" Most of the negativity came from other black folks. Then, when it grew longer and started looking curlier, my fellow black folks were... weird. I started getting more compliments, especially from men. Women said "I'd go natural if my hair looked like yours, but...." And I just shook my head over how silly we can be.
My hope is that we naturals who have been blessed to have our eyes opened to the beauty of natural hair, will rock, beautify, and celebrate our hair so much that other blacks can wait to get on board. Cause after all, we, women of all races, just want to be beautiful.
this vid/discussion by responding as she did. Because she is the epitome of the negativity that how many many many blacks feel toward their natural hair. They feel so much negativity in fact, that they can not imagine that they are anyone else would love natural black hair, much less prefer it. I hope that neither you, she, or anyone else take what I'm saying as a put down. After all, it is only natural to feel negativity toward something which has been presented negatively for generations. Hey NefatariaY. First of all, it's not just African Americans who straighten their hair. Africans do this also. Yes Africans, from the mother land. I don't know why they do it, I assume it's because of colonialism and general western influence. Also, whites may have taught blacks self hatred of hair in the past, but presently, I tend to get more compliments on my natural hair from whites than I do from blacks. At the end of the day, I think that MizzGabrielle1987 gave a huge contribution to
wow.. i just read the comment you left me.... i wasn't being nasty towards your video i was just telling you about my experience.. did you even read it (gregkim1977)... wow i was voicing only my experience and giving you a compliment on your experience... wow thats all i can say
I'm not sure wat comment you're talking about..i jus read over it..&& I didn't see anything rude..however I may have sent you a reply comment that was meant for someone else..if so, i apologize..I def wasn't trying to offend you.. = (
Okay, I'm black, and I've had my hair relaxed for years now. I don't mind natural hair, but i do think straight hair is more beautiful and much easier to manage. A white girl at 5 can comb her own hair to go to school. A black girl at 5 will be driven to tears because of the frustration to make it look presentable. Its just frustrating dealing with it. Thats my main problem. It definitely doesn't look as suitable for the workplace... Getting your hair wet is a pain, its just hard to manage.
First off, I'm sorry that your experiences with your hair have been so negative. It really does depend on the products you use..my hair is type 4a/4b && its extremely easy to manage {100% natural now}.
As for the 'WHY', I think because it's hard to find your own features beautiful when they're constantly bashed. That's why I think many black people don't fully embrace their features. They've internalized all the hatred, then project their issues onto each other, and the cycle continues.
&& I completely agree with you..alot of us try to conform to what society says is beautiful cuz we've been told for soo long that we are not beautiful
i luv it too i cut my hair myself back in 4/5/09 after i took my micros done and i did the same went in bathroom did the first cut and said wow i am really about to cut off my hair and i had alot of hair .. so i did it i luv it i have beautiful thick pretty coarse hair and i luv it... i feel so free... and its cute it is all about your attitude ... :)
Well thats your opinion, but say whatever you like, i think you're not looking at the matter objectively, just defending your race. We all have flaws and preferences. I wonder if we were raceless and both options were presented to us straight hair or kinky hair, which one you would think more beautiful, without the knowledge that you have now. I wonder what your objective answer would be....
@MizzGabrielle1987 I'd choose the kinkiest hair, because I love locs and think they're quite beautiful, and locs look best on my hair type than they do on super straight hair. Straight hair is overrated.
welcome sister! And for future reference to u and all if u r in transition and ur ends r still straight just simply use some setting lotion (lottabody is the best 4 me) and curl the ends with rollers (sponge rollers are great just make sure u use those papers on them)
"I was lookin' like one of those suspects"... LOL! Girl you are too funny but beloved stay encouraged bc our hair is unique and beautiful regardless of what some ignorant people think or say. I started transitioning back in July sometimes I will wear my wigs but I still know that God made my hair and its just as beautiful as the one with straight hair....nothing is better than the real natural thing!
I hate my natural hair. I have gross wavy frizzy hair. NATURALLY :O

Second, I strongly disagree that "straight hair is more beautiful". No hair is MORE beautiful than the next. Its all diff && beautiful that way!
Third, neat && clean hair is professional, regardless of its style.
I'm all for nautral && straightened hair but don't make it a competition..cuz its not.
