A double bill: Chornye Glaza, and some of the good old Ochi Chornye in the middle. And between the sensual tango and the mesmerizing piercing dark eyes in the video, I feel hypnotized! A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you G, and to everybody else.
Hello Grzegorz - this is a super magnificent piece of work by Oscar Strok. I gave you an idea about the "eyes" theme and it's working great!. My personal vote goes to Rudolph Valentino's magnetic black eyes. Pola Negri also knew how to charm with her black colored eyes. Even though the beat of this Tango is a little slow for dancing - it's a lot of fun to listen and watch your artwork. Thanks and big Tango kiss to you!
@tango3721 On old record labels such tangoes are sometimes called "tango-ballades" and I tnink it's exactly what they are about. Best Christmas wishes to you, Lana! Take care and be happy
Very impressive rendition! The pictures chosen as always are very impressive too! Among those black eyes that make the world moves I pick the deep ones of beautiful Joan Crawford at 1:40! Thanks for your wonderful posts Grzegorz! Merry Christmas!
@Masquerade03 This was a big en face artistic photograph which I have altered a bit: I removed a part of Joan's face leaving only her left eye and a brim of than manificent black hat. I think, it produces a more "sultry" effect (using Barbcard's perfect term). Also to you, my dear Friend: all the best for the Christmas!! In your sunny and warm Spain you don't have to worry about snowfalls - while here we are trembling from the cold and each morning digging out our cars from under the snow!
"Dark Eyes" was a favorite of mine as a child when I was given the family's old records from the 1930s, but this version seems to me more subtle, nuanced, and sophisticated! Love the pictures you have chosen!
Best Christmas wishes to you, and thank you for a very enjoyable year with your musical offerings!
@abendstunde49 The same warmest wishes to you! I see, this tango has quite a group of fans in YT! I think, this rendition is superb. Weber's band always has that really hot tone in whatever kind of a tune he performs: tango, waltz or foxtrot. He was from Lwów so he must have had Galizier blood in his veins - and that's exactly how the music was played in past times in the Polish-Romanian Carpathians! (and apparently, still is?) - with all these guitars, harmoniums, horns and cymbals.
Sultry, yes, but i find it more intoxicating, even alluring. Perhaps it is the invitation to the dance of love...? Thank you for this wonderful song and video...oh, those eyes! Have a very Merry Christmas... May Santa bring you peace and prosperity.
@bill3murr Than k you Bill! And the same to you! Let us hope the world will not go totally crazy in these "sultry" and "intoxicating" days our civilisation is going through. May the gleam of the Bethlehem stable be with you through all next year!
@genia106 When preparing this clip, and magnifying some photos, I suddenly found exactly the same as you: the unbelievably piercing gaze of Valentino's eyes. And it probably was where his secret key to the ladies' hearts was hidden
@240252 Spasiba. I thought it was Russian, just wanted to make sure. The more I watch this the more I realize how absolutely sultry it is...not snazzy, but downright sultry, both the music and the photos. All the best for Christmas.
@barbcard DFear B., thank you for that new word, again! Yes, no doubt: this tango is SULTRY! . I remember, you used that word a propos a "Cuban serenade", when you referred to the "sultry" streets, while here it refers to a "spiritual condition"... oh, are we back to our good old "decadence in Berlin"?... Shhh... or that German guy will report his sharp protest again!
I wish you a very BREEZY Christmas time (breezy - in a good sense, as opposition to "sultry")!
@camille885 Hi, exactly the same is on the other side of German record - a really funny fox-trott (Jascha auf Reisen) which is really worth uploading one day! I am glad that you do not mind my re-uploading this lovely tune, thank you. And the same best to you for the Christmas!
Thank you very much for uploading this!

Probably the most impressive version I've ever heard and the exquisite portraits are so appropriately chosen.

Lovely version of a charming old song. Pardon my ignorance, but are the lyrics in the
Latvian language? A dialect of Russian?
barbcard 1 year ago
@barbcard It's pure Russian, and very well sung, indeed.

All these stars for this marvelous tango; thanks for sharing this Electrola version!
And Merry Christmas!
P.S.: what is the other face of this record? For HMV, is "Jascha en voyage" ( "Jascha auf Reisen" )
