  • This was interesting, I never knew that they would have so much video evidence to try and find out why and prevent in the future....I see the argument is about 3 or 4 arrest wires, when the question is moot in this case! I really love the idiot that says the pilot is at fault because he had all the info needed to land and why couldn't he hit the wires,, DUH! He did it the wires fool, do you doubt that? I have never done somthing like this, but unless the guy walks up and says he did FU!

  • Reason #78 why the boat absolutely freakin' sux.

  • So what exactly happened? Why didn't he abort or why didn't we hear him told to abort?Long before?Glad hes ok, hardest thing in the world to do really.

  • I was asleep when this happened.

  • EPIC FAIL???

  • Yep, I remember that one. I was walking through Hangar Bay 3 when we heard him hit, then saw the flash of the ejection bright as day.

  • alpha you are a little bitch to talk that way. The man in the crash is my brother...real patriotic alpha...

  • @liannaandhannah its not only the pilots fault.. he has a guy guideing him in that tells him the knots and altitude he should be at to hit any of the 4 cables.. and yes teh Ronald reagan has 4 rip cords advice the older carriers have 3.

  • lemoore30, you're full of shit. LSOs don't dictate knots/altitude, and CVN-76 has 3 arresting wires.

  • @2ndAsstJizzMopper it has 4. 3 sets. 2 with one wire and and 1 with 2 wires. the extra wire just isn't generally used. so it has four they jus don't use the 4th

  • ryan89012345, thanks, but he said "older carriers have 3", and you're talking about cables that aren't there. if you have a pic of CVN-76 deploying with 4 arresting wires, would love to see it. still wouldn't call it a 4-wire config w/o caveat.

  • @2ndAsstJizzMopper yeah ur right i don't think i ever saw both being used just one or the other. and i have no idea what caveat is, i jus call in ships.

  • @liannaandhannah we found the pilot. He turned out okay. I was there so don't tell me what being patriotic is all about. Do yourself a favor and shut the hell up

  • I was behind the island when it happened. That cruise VFA 25 couldn't keep a 18 in the air to save their lives. They started out with I think 10 jet and left with 5 or 6.......maybe 4.

  • @AlphaLunchBox I seem to remember our sortie completion rate being over 98% that deployment... But i'm sure a boat knob knows more than me.

  • @Ez2typethis funny you bring that up. It's easy to have a completion rate over 98% when you're only flying an average of 3 - 4 F-18s a day.... but I'm sure a LAZY 2 would know more than me

  • @AlphaLunchBox

Pussy's hide behind the island, real men are working

  • I know who the pilot was, I was in VFA-25, made the first 3 cruises on the Regan

  • I was there too, i was hook-running and came five feet from beeing hit by the jet engine as it bounced across the deck. Ya'll see the video from segregator236, he is such a doucebag, i just had to post some comments

  • If you pause the video at 23:15:00 on the tower cam, you can see me hauling ass through everyone that is running toward the crash; just so you know i aint a coward, what would you do if a burning bird was sliding strait at you?

  • Pilot survived. No fatalities. I was there too.

  • I watched this crash first hand...

  • Any fatalities? If the pilot survived, did he loose his wings? Any more info? Thanks.

  • VFA-25 was the squadron... Pilot is still alive and still flying for VFA-25. I was in that squadron standing 30 feet away from the landing area when he tanked that jet... you can kind of see him eject right as he falls off the deck.
