I love this song. 40 years ago I was privileged to be a working cowboy for six months. Some of my fondest memories still come from those long ago days. By the way, singing to cattle does calm them down, no matter how good the singer's voice is, or conversely, how bad. Also, horses like to be read to, out loud, at least my two did. Perhaps, I had the intellectual kind. Oh, and cattle don't like to branded, no matter how thick-skinned they might be.
This is some of the best American music in any genre, both in composition and performance. All four of these bad guy gentlemen ROCK. Yup, It's country, but it is so much more.
When I first saw them there were 4 Microphones and 4 singers. Next up 4/3 and now 4/2. Sad to see them gone. But I swear my Dad is having a Ball with'em up there.
I really miss waylon, remember the first time I've heard that voice when I still was a kid. it was the song "take it to the limit". ever since I'm a waylon fan. and these 4 guys together is like heaven on earth. to relax I need to listen the country of them.
So true, both Waylon and Willie had the slicked back hair and the clean cut "Nashville" image in the 60's before they broke off and became the outlaws.
The whole 1970's outlaw scene in the south actually attracted so much popularity that by the 1980's Nashville had the "Urban Cowboy" scene which was like the inner city rip off of the cowboy. That's where honky tonk took off.
if I could just be half of the person these guys were / are.... where has our American heritage gone? sigh. In the hands of people like Obama...groan...We need you guys...we need you back to rouse us to wake up and take our country back.
HELP!!! There is a song that I've been searching for a long time now and I really need your help to find it. It says: " I've got all the love I need waiting at home for me. She's the sweetest angel I've ever known . She's a little bit of heaven..." I don't know the title of the song or the singer. Please tell me if anyone knows it.
God bless these guys. In the '70's when Disco & Punk were the "thing", I lived on a farm and we jammed a lot in the kitchen, just escaping the BS. People are still singing these songs, it's just that Corporate Radio sells to 12 yo's. Can you say Beiber & Gaga?
This is the music of my life, I used to sing and play ,now I can only watch and listen and it still makes me happy and brings back as Kriss sings "The Good Times"
@notfarc1 I will continue to listen to the opinions of a highly educated decorated U. S. Army officer that served his country during its most turbulent years like Kris did, as opposed to a dimwit like yourself that sits in front of Fox news channel , and really believes what the y are saying.
You are so right badmoonryzn - this is what country is all about. It will never go away. I saw these bad boys in Melbourne in 1990 and they had the whole audience silent and spellbound untill the end of the song then all shit broke loose. Waylon and John paid their dues to music. Willie and Kris thank Christ are still in there. Warmest to you mate - Graham Melb Aus
This is real country, not the bubble gum crap they try to call county today. Any moron can add a steel guitar to pop and call it country. I am so glad that Johnny, Waylon, Kris and Willie got together for the Highwaymen. Good Stuff!
@badmoonryzn I'm going to Willie's Fourth of July concert at Billy Bob's Texas this 4th of July. I'm only 15, and I can DEFIANTLY appreciate REAL music. Too bad it's almost all gone :/ But we still have outlaws- Jamey Johnson, Kevin Fowler, Brad Paisley, etc.
@badmoonryzn I like these guys a lot and grew up on them. Are you aware that these boys were basically thrown out of Nashville? Nashville and the group of 'real country" singers and their fans didn't like the tune. So, old Willy and the boys made an album called the Outlaws in the late 70's to show 'em their brand of country. Every generation has their group..........I really like these boys and their brand.
Jonny and Waylon are gone but even as a young man I still enjoy listening to their music and I enjoy playing it. These guys are the real reason why I grew up to be a cowboy. RIP yall you shall never be forgoten!

For much of the country and a fair share of the world, this is fully equal to Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Grateful Dead on one stage.
