  • can u tell me the exact storyline because it was really complicated and it was so good that I want to know the story line

  • This is pretty amazing I must say :] Great job!!

  • I didn't really understand what it was about until I read the paragraph at the side. I thought it was about the son realizing that his father had murdered his mother, because of the blood on the father's hands at the beginning.

Amazing filming though, it was done really well, I think.

Re: How to Save a Life Music Video by addalielema03

  • wtf?

  • I couldnt hear the sound but the rest was great

  • Vid name *how to save a life* XD its Hard to save a life

  • It's how to save a life, not hard to.

  • I am proud of my son, Matthew Vasquez. He is a ton of fun and not a shy bone in his body...great energy. He is talented beyond measure...he needs to realize this is deep rooted in him and .... let's see what he does with it...

  • ... i fucking LOVE YOU

    Joe

  • oh nice! well, the quality isn't bad, YouTube brings it down big time, believe me haha. anyway, keep the great work up! :]

  • Haha I know that tunnel. Its at the end of the trail.

  • "How to Save a Life" won the Lizzie Award for Originality in the 2009 Harvard-Westlake Film Festival!

  • Jeb Brody (producer, Little Miss Sunshine): "Effective imagery and exciting promise of a complex thriller keep the viewer mesmerized."

Larry Charles (director, Borat, Curb your Enthusiasm): "Incredible look. Very sophisticated."

Martha Schumacher De Laurentiis (producer, Hannibal): "Stunning use of visuals, camera work, and clever editing."

Rita Wilson (actor, producer, My Big Fat Greek Wedding): "Professional in quality. I look forward to seeing more from this filmmaker."

  • I just got around to watching it lol

Great work, good use of effects and the camera, it seems every detail has been thought out to a high standard, rather than adding random eliments that don't belong you seemed to have included relivent things to stir feelings, the lighting also adds great depth to the emotion of the image... There is nothing about your vid I think doesn't fit, but that said my area is sound and not image (Even though the connection between the two is huge!)

    Peace

  • I'm currently working on making parts for a workshop, student's are making their own Sudophone. It is the 5th time I have replayed this song while I work lol & as for the vid... Just from little glimpses it looks great, I will try and watch it properly another time :)

    But what a song

  • This was a visual stunning video which I absolutey enjoyed. I thought the video seemed awfuly random at the beinning but I loved the jump in front of the bullet. I have always wanted to do this video but I planned on doing something so straight forward....nice work. I think I'll pass on this one since you've done it...done it so well!!!

    Nice work!!!

  • cool shots and editing, nice work. Plus a great song to use.

  • this was great! I really liked it! :)

  • Matthew is amazing! From his mom

  • This was intense!

    Just so amazing.

I remeber when my video teacher showed me this last year and I was just amazed!

    xox

  • Amazing dude. Loved the effects, symbolism, and direction... 5 stars!

  • How Did U Make The Video Look Like Some1 Professional Did It???

  • really nice dude! excellent art direction! cool effects, very very nice!

  • I'm confused which boy relives the expeirence throught the oother ones eye? The one who shoots or the one who gets shot?

  • both

  • but didn't one of them die?

  • really good..

  • That was mint, better than the official video. How do you get that rapid movement effect. i.e when it pans round at alternate speeds. Also are your lighting effects post production?.

I'm making a music video atm as well. Did you use Final Cut?

    Wel dun agen

    peace

  • The fast paced movements where done by cutting out parts of the actual video, and making them faster then placing them over top of the other video, at that part to make it look like it belongs there.

With lighting, they could have used there video editor to add the effects after, or slowly shot the lighting when filming. Everyone films differently :)

  • Thats Amazing! I love this video.

  • That was great! It was SOOOOOOO much better than the one in the nice guy contest! Yours should have 100x more views, too bad it doesn't! T_T

  • i think that was flippin brilliant and wow i cant even say how to improve and my god dude. i dont even like the song and i was in awe.

  • amazing work, jtsillx. This video and the song is still stuck in my head after a few days. no other music video has ever done that before.

quick question: how did you get that gradual black rimming around your video?

  • dude, are you trying to rip off his video?

just appreciate it and don't ask him to reveal how he made it. if you want to know go figure it out yourself like he had to.

  • haha. Well that's cool that you guys both enjoyed the effect, but I'm seriously fine with letting people know how I did it. Here's some ways I'd do it:

    (LONG POST AHEAD)

    1) For the actual video, I took some shots into Adobe After Effects and realized that in the program you can turn video files into 3D layers, where you can apply a 3D-imitating camera and light.

    (CONT.) ->

  • Long story short, I turned my video clips into 3D layers and applied some of that fake 3D lighting that gives it a vignetted look. Dude trust me, this process takes forever, but it's so much more pinpointed.

    2) If you're using Final Cut, you can definitely use a Vignette filter, works the same, blacks off the edges, and can even blur if you moderate it that way.

And always you can find your own way to mimic the effect. I'm just lazy, so I'm just gonna stick with that. :)

  • hey joe! this is the first time i looked at HTSAL on Youtube. it never gets old. ceeeee u later.
