what a load of rubbish! He would break her bones if he threw a full force punch and she was to parry or block. This stuff quiet simple does not work, stick to western boxing and muay thai.
I did Inosanto/Lucaylucay kali for a while, and . I I found there's not enough emphais on below the waist attack/defense. These drills are not necessarily beneficial. You practice standing there...over...and over...and you become (as Lee said) "a mechanical man"...If your attacker moves the way you've trained , great...If not....
the thing that kills me is that only 2% of all people, let alone martial artists are ever involved in a physical altercation in their entire lifetime and even less after the age of adulthood. so much time is spent training the detailed movements when you could be spending that time MAKING LOVE.
@miggyruru While I wholeheartedly support your statement about making more LOVE, your statistics are totally f-ed up. Almost all men find themselves in one or more self defense situations in their adult years. The number is somewhat lower for women, but situations involving women are often of a grave nature, such as rape, or wife-beating (/-stabbing/-shooting). Training these arts typically makes you more able to stay away from trouble, which itself is a good reason for studying them.
@zipule I hope you realize, that none of the fancy situps or rope-skipping moves of boxing can actually be used in a fight... This is attribute training, with a little bit of stylized technique training thrown into the mix. The techs can work, I make techs like these work all the time, but of course it has to be done in a very dynamic way, with rapid footwork etc, and it aint gonna look nothing like this vid, cause this is an exercise, not a fight!
@piaten Yes I realize that and thats why I'm not making videos of rope skipping named deadly streetfight ki boxing techniques.
Whatever that is on this video it's not deadly and it's got nothing to do with fighting, so weak up. I did aikido by the way, I like it, like its philosophy and its great and fun to practice but it has also nothing to do with fighting
@zipule You're right about the title, the word deadly should not be placed anywhere near the word drill. Overemphasis on any one drill, to the exclusion of actual sparring can seriously inhibit you, possibly getting you killed. My point was that the techniques themselves (traps, deflections etc) are valid, and I use some of them all the time in sparring, and even on the rare occations I have to defend myself in the streets. But then it will look faster, fuzzy and much more dymanic.
Only thing is when he lop saos when he's hold her arm you're suppose to use a "BJJ" grip and not have the thumb wrapped around her arm, she could jerk him forward if he's holding on to her arm tight enough and punch him in the face alot of wing chun/jkd is about moving their frame
The demonstrational value would rise, if the partner had the same height, reach and sex...
...this should not be understood as critic on HER skills - it is a remark about the advertisement-value and the potential consumers. Nevertheless, JKD is merely a `seller´ not a martial-art-concept of its own. Bruce Lee did not enhance wingchun, because he had not achieved even a praticioneers level of that art. But, dont let yourself stopped by me buying this stuff - those guys need that money!!!
If u want to go to the mountain u buy a hardcore jeep,If u want to run ,u buy a sport car,if u want something to go everywhere without much demands u buy a suv.So it depends what u want for me.Jkd is SUV
Greetings I have some comments. Within the sensitivity training of Wing Chun and the arts of the Philippines. I feel I am a subject matter expert in both. I find against top level Wing Chuners that losing the center or releasing pressure will get you blasted so it's better to stick to Wing Chun within trapping range but if the opponent is not high level I will slip some PMA stuff in there. Now all the drills, lock flows in their various forms have their place and have different truths for
JKD is really just WC+, it has tan sau, fuk sau, and bong sau, and it has a variation of the wooden man. All it needs are the three forms and it would be WC. It also has parts of siu lim tao anyway in some classes. It's nearly there.
@J1ngelbell l that drill is used in jkd for sensitivity training. using Eskrima's Hubud drills mixed with wing chun's tan sao and bui jee then stop hits from jkd as well.
Ok im not trying to disrespect this guy but honestly i've never seen a fight where any tips (comming from anyone) will work perfectly like this. That situation is so tense people wont act as they do here in the training video.
That's why you shouldn't be fighting. Cause you tense up. Stay in college kid. His moves are good just that his sticky hands should have more contact, amongst other minor things. Nonetheless this guy can ruin you.
@kickurassification lol dude in no way was i saying he couldnt ruin me nor did i say i could fight i was merly making a comment. In my comment i said i wasent trying to disrespect him.
@Emanc441 I don't know what kickurass is talking about to you. You are correct. This combo will never work on the street. But JKD is a street art. These drills are designed to hone your technique, speed, and reflexes. In a normal street fight, most JKD artists will probably not use anything more than 2 blocks (tan soa and pak soa) because they are more natural to your reflexes. The idea of these drills is to train your reflexes to give you more options in a real scenario.
@Emanc441 No problem brother. Martial arts are not about trying to put each other down like so many people on youtube will do. Many (not all) MMA fighters/fans will come on here and tell you that X style is stupid and Y style would kill you. But real martial arts are about peace, both inner and outer. The first response to any situation should be a peaceful one. Sadly, many people have lost this focus and turned martial arts into nothing more than a sport, rather than a lifestyle. Peace.
@sanddocon These are sensitivity drills which means the goal is develop sensitivity to react to an attack. Here you see a very big attacker against a smaller and weaker target and since both are well trained strength will win...but she is learning skills to use to help minimize damage and be able to open up her own attack. Your argument is overly simplified. If she faced you in a fight little doubt it would look different and she would win.
@sanddocon The smack em in the nuts, finish them off, scan for more attackers then run system is known as Krav Maga. JKD is however a well respected practicle fighting system that most people would not want to be on the end of, don't judge fighting systems by one video, go along and try for yourself.
How do you think your (modified?) Wing-chun would match up against thai-boxing? And you mention lines a lot, which I like, but do you have any drills that prepare students for circling? Circilng is a pretty natural part of fighting from my own experience!
@ichujini Why the hell would you use wing chun against muay thai?
You need to understand that arts are used based on what is needed. You do not take a single system and use it against another single system. JKD is to blend whatever works. So your question is like saying "how would your television match up against my tennis shoes?"
Flexibility and mobility is the key to success. If you stand like a post, you will get blated by that elbow. Notice Addy flexing and twisting from the waist. She is passing the elbow and not trying to block it. Oh, as far as the fool that made the sexist comment. I would just LOVE to see you try to stand up to Addy for oh, say 30 seconds...Thats all she would need to take your sorry ass apart.

What i don't like about these videos is that none of their punches would actually hit anything. They're too far away from eachother. Take 1:10 for example she's way too far out for using her ellbow.
This is a demonstration of the drill. Keyword being demonstration. For them to practice on their own, sure they can step in with the intent to land the strikes, but for us to see and learn the concepts and workings of the drill, that's not very practical.
That's like me teaching how to do nunchaku combat tricks. If I go slow, you'd criticize how its not real or that faster opponents will hit me. But I go slow to show others how it's done.
No thats different The intention of your first strike must be to hit your opponent and to hit him hard. Dont do a punch so that you can follow up with another technique Do the first thing if that doesnt work you do the second thing Never do the first thing when you already think about the second. If you fight this way it wont work. Or take 0:14 for example. Its pointless to do an Ellbow from that distance he can easily punch her before she gets there.
You may be right about the elbow drill. Just don't forget that if it's practiced and applied well, then it works.
The other thing may be that this drill is meant to work on something else, kind of like Chi Sao from Wing Chun. In case you don't know, Chi Sao is a sensitivity drill. Many people mistake it as a combat drill and claim that it's impractical in a fight, which they're right.
I'm doing Wing Chun and the difference is that in Chi Sao you're intention is allways to hit your oppent, only that his arms obstruct the way so your arms try to "float" around them and find the gap. However silly movements such as this ellbow always get punished right away. Because when.
Right. Without that intention, our body is more easily manipulated by the opponent. Sorry, I interpreted intention incorrectly earlier.
I'm not so sure about the floating around part, but I'd agree with you about using the elbow this way in the drill being punished. I've only done the bong sau drill so far, and I already learned what happens when I position the elbow this way :{ lol.
All i'm saying was that this drill might have another purpose. I wouldn't know b/c i don't practice it
You are very astute in your comment about the drill having other functions but as you advance in Wing Chun you will learn to pass the elbow strike as well..don't get caught up looking for differences it will lead you nowhere..the trick to life and combat is to seek whats similar and build from there. wing chun and silat will provide a format to learn from and they are very similar..we have been conditioned to seek and judge whats different and thats stupid, be a better martial artist and person
The purpose is to pass the elbow using two hands...it isn't to stop it, it is to check it so it can be passed..I've taken both wing chun and silat and they are far more similar than people think but then you have to look for similarities and not differences..that is the way a martial artist is to think...to quote Bruce Lee a punch is a punch and a kick is a kick..seek whats similar because as with most things differences mean far less...wing chun teaches u to pass an elbow as well geez
That's true lol. It's been awhile since I posted on that, and although I haven't been able to practice WC since then (school work = constantly busy when on quarter system), but I've come to have a different idea and perspective after listening to different seminar recordings of the topic. So you're right.
if you tried to stop an elbow like that you would get laid out. besides they are completely square and standing straight up.........no disrespect to the instructor.
