Now even though coral snakes will use water, I tend to think that the snake in the video is probably not a true coral snake (of the genus Micrurus)...but more likely a harmless non-venomous colubrid species (probably of the genus Helicops or Hydrops...which are both banded aquatic snakes that sometimes have red markings on them...particularly on the belly). Do you mind letting me know where and when you shot this footage? And, by the way...what happened to the fish?
This is some really nice natural history footage! Thanks for posting it. As to whether or not the snake in the video is really a coral is not very clear just by looking at the video. The focus and the lighting is not very good. There are a couple different species of water snakes in Trinidad that have bands on the body and are sometimes even referred to as 'water corals' or 'false corals' or 'false water corals' or 'water mapepires'.

a "wheel" in trinidad is not a zangee, people in trinidad know a "wheel" as the anaconda.....a "zangee" is a species of freshwater eel in trinidad

its what we call a wheel or zangee
wetbeak 1 year ago
@wetbeak Wrong, a "zangee" is a type of eel and a "huille" is the local term for anaconda.

not a coral snake, a coral is very small, 2 feet and less and the size of a pinkey, and will not take on a fish that size
