It's a great opening song to this unique cult classic and probably my favourite ( although I do love them all ). It's what we see at the beginning of the edited version ( 84 mins ). For those that don't know, this film was butchered and edited to the extent where important material ought to have been left in. The reason was that it was considered 'too long'. Years later it was re-released with the Directors cut. This was an extended version of 99 mins and at least made the film more complete.
The Soundtrack was re-released recently with a found (in Canada) tape of the soundtrack intended for release. The Movie states the band was Loudstone however, a band with that name already existed so Giovanni changed the name to Magnet.
@MrTeatime I ask myself that question often. I think it's because this sort of story, does not play to an american 'racial memory', if you are british watching this, it's a very much different experience.
This was an awesome movie, although I never thought of it as a horror movie but more of a suspense/mystery movie. I wish they would have made a sequel to this.
It is a "different movie", a companion film and not a follow-up. It's part of Robin Hardy's *thematic* Wickerman trilogy, to be completed by the as yet unwritten Twilight of the Gods. I hope you enjoy the film for what it is (whenever it actually comes out).
Agree with Celtno1. One of the chilling aspects of the original which was lost on the recent Nick Cage remake was the songs. It's like a horror-musical, but real horror, not Little Shop of Horrors type horror.
I have the soundtrack on cd,Its the same as the film, aeroplane in the background and finishes before the end of the song.On the cd it is just called opening music,I dont know the title or the artist.
@macbrid I gotta agree with you both for focussing on this song as it is beautiful and knocks into a cocked hat the rest of the music, which is truly awful Carry-On level cod-folk (the Landlord's Daughter is particularly Awful, it sounds like a bloody Dick Emery sketch). I've always wondered who sang this, it's shamefully not credited on any version of the film or soundtrack I've ever encountered. Any one got any ideas?
The song is Highland Widow's Lament by Robert Burns

In my opinion, the best 'horror film' (suspense? thriller? whatever you'd call it) ever made.

Watched the remake the other day, and it just made me sad. How did they manage to remove EVERYTHING good about the original?

The "companion" film, The Wicker Tree, has just gone into post production for a Summer 2010 release.

I read about the wicker tree and it does not sound like a sequel but rather a completely different movie. I dont think it will live up to the first.

Apparently it's The Highland Widow's Lament sung by Leslie Mackie. Such a beautiful song!

wickerman would not be the same without the songs, the songs made the movie and gave it it's unique atmosphere.
though great film it was.
