  • I really enjoy that this tune was adapted by Jan & Dean for skateboarding. My grandson does not believe in 1964 I took a 2 foot 2X4, nailed old style clamp on roller skates to it, and had FUN! Damn near killed myself when an axle retaining nut came off, the front wheels went south and I went north....flying through the air , landing in a small group of bushes. I was winded and sore, but never scared... (BTW I'm 61 now)

  • @gto66solstice08 did the same thing with old rollerskates (the type with the key...try keeping the skates on a pair of Keds PF flyers). BTW....63

  • THIS is THE America I'd liked very much to have seen before we all went mad! I was living in London, England at the time (early to mid '60's) during the British Beat craze. That was a fantastic time too because not only was I living the beat craze there, we were also getting the great sounds of America.....The Beach Boys too!

  • Just reminding everybody of the easter egg @ 01:36 - 01:38

  • My 4 year old sister knows all of the words!

  • SLEEPERS

  • Stupid Jan and Dean ripped of the Beach Boys with "Sidewalk Surfing"...Same beat to the song...Same voices...Just different lyrics

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What made the Beach Boys so amazing to me was that a song that for most artists would be a smash ~sounds ordinary compared to all their hits

  • The Beach Boys had many classics but only 40 of them made it to the top and were played on the radio.

  • @MrMoviecritic2011 this is true except for a few college and classical music stations that played odd songs when they were available on cd

  • Judge: Tell me Ms. Replay where did Mr. Arrow click you?

Replay Button: Here (gestures entire body) *cries*

Judge: And how many times did you say he clicked you?

Replay Button: OVER 9,000!!! times your honor...

judge: And what do you have to say Mr. Arrow

Arrow: Dude, I told you already I only clicked on her maybe 10 times.

judge: Mr. Arrow you're going to internet prison for an entire year.

Arrow: fuck, how am I supposed to do my job now?

    Me: arrow???

  • Great lyrics, great beat ... Love it!

  • I've been a Beach-Boy Fan since the first dime I put in the jukebox in 1964, This is now my Grandsons # 1 song thanks for uploading

  • Also if I am not mistaken, the one "forgot his name" was drinking and fell off the boat and hit his head and drowned in King Harbor Ca. My Ex wifes brothers went to school with them.

  • dennis was the only surfer. brian was enough of a genius to know what to write about and how to sound. same with ccr. so many people just assumed they had to be from the south with that kind of "deep in the everglades" funky sound they had; but actually they were from northern california. you can't judge a cover by it's book.

  • @1skullduggery

NO They were from Hawthorne California and they went to hawthorne high, They had a boat in King Harbor in Redondo Beach Ca,

  • @pgm1inc i was referring to ccr, didn't feel like spelling it out; thanks, though.

  • Summer's last hurrah....90 degrees, humid as a steambath in this part of the country.

  • They should have sung "grab" some rays on the sunny surf. Overuse of the word 'catch'. Does Chloe Grace Moretz want to learn how to surf?

  • This is how we roll in Southern CA dudes. However, this 'might' have been filmed in Hawaii. Still, this is how we roll....So, eat your heats out East Coast kooks.

  • Love the Beach Boy's harmonies.

    Amazing stuff :)

  • Saw the Beach Boys (well, only one original was in the band!) last night- and they opened with this song! Since I was a pretty young lass when they first became popular, it was fun to go see them in concert with my best friend of 46 years! They sounded pretty good, too!

  • Good summer (^-^)v

  • Oh there's me in the atlantic, walking out with the waves crashing into me...so the fat girl can't surf, so what? As they crash into me I seem to be catching them alright...and singin this to myself all the while! ;^)

  • I've got this song on the original 1963 Surfer Girl LP.

  • I first heard this song on the best of the beach boys white album. My all time favorite Beach boy cut!!!!!!!!! It rulezzzzzzzzz

  • I want to learn surfing back in south france hope its not so difficult

  • @LieorDie24 takes time...

  • great song

  • oo waa oo waa oo waa

  • Iam addicted to Summer music and it became a blast from my childhood

  • 7 People Can't Catch a Wave.

  • Great sound. Great song. Great video. What's not to like?

  • Great lyrics....They'll eat their words with a fork and a spoon....

  • Could they catch a tsunami?...As long as we can play with nature...

  • Awesome footage

  • Sitting here struggling with 94 degree heat, this instantly cools me off. A very well-made video. Thank you for this.

  • I love those vids from inside the curl!

  • sucks

  • Yes, get yourself a big board! That was the advice I got from my surfer buddies... It's harder to surf a short board...

  • 6 people caught a wave, but lost their balance

  • nice vid.

  • i love a video that goes with the song awsome

  • I have a baseball cap that says "Santa Cruzin" I'm gonna be Santa Cruzin on the waves at Santa Cruz beach when I'm old enough to move out of my parent's house : )

  • Best surf video!!!

  • even in 2011, this is such a relief from the drary songs about love and broken hearts

  • Very cool pictures! Makes for a great vid.

  • 'So take a lesson from a topnotch surfer boy...'

  • It's actually "Get yourself a big board" at 1:36. It makes the most sense in relation to the next line, "But don't you treat it like a toy."

  • I like this!

  • suck my dick baaaaaw.

  • RIP Dennis

  • Excellent footage of the surfers !! Job well done !!

  • This was my favorite song while growing up. I love this video!!

  • Catch a Wave sounds like Catch the Aids

  • I heard both..."suck my dick" and "every Saturday boy"....depends on what you want to hear !! Great pictures of the vast Pacific.

  • @Rustina61 Haha! Someone must have been horny or something to have heard the first one (:

  • Love It

  • @GuitarGuy0008 Actually, the line is "Get yourself a big board", to which the response lyric is "But don't you treat it like a toy".

  • @GozerGozarian I'm pretty sure on that on that line he says "catch a wave (every saturday boy), and don't you treat it [the wave] like a toy..." you just have to listen closely and you can her it plain as day...

  • Cool surf shots, nice blue waves and great vocal pop/rock harmony singing from the band best at it, along with Jan and Dean, imo, of that same time parenthes. thx, man. : )

Srrly, has ANYONE ever surpassed them at that in their pop genre?

  • I read Mike had a bad cold when he recorded the vocals.

  • I can't hear it... but regardless of the innuendo, the sound is great, and I loved watching the surfers... thanks for posting!!

  • @fab4fan4ever64

agree: The sound is somehow uploaded with very good quality. :)

( sorry, I might of accidentally hit a button on my mousepad and thumbed down your comment, instead of up! : /

  • beach boys <3

  • Whoa. It actually does say "suck my dick" at 1:36.

  • what the! sounds like sidewalk surfing by jan and dean!

  • @iloverollin You are right. J&D took this song and redid it to "Sidewalk Surfin"

  • Great song and a very nicely put together video!

  • At 1:47 he says "Just get away from the shitty turf"

  • @RetroAndrew the words are "gettaway from the shady turf".

  • @RetroAndrew The lyrics are "just gettaway from the Shady Turf".

  • @IainB1511

You ruined the fun from the joke for everyone now as that was a secret. I knew the lyrics anyways thanks though :(

  • OH yes they DO!!!!!!

  • @harvland1 yeah really what part

  • @lena2322 After the third catch a wave @ 1:32. Suck ma dick!! It's really quick. I love it!! I'm so childish, it's great.

  • @harvland1 thank u

  • happy birthday brian wilson

  • i have sing this for promotion and hasta la vista from camp rock

  • @hazel80able lofl who r u?? i have these songs for promotion too!!!

  • They're saying: Get yourself a big board. That's why it makes sense when they say next: but don't you treat it like a toy.

  • @shaboney when he says "dont you treat it like a toy" hes talking about his dick

  • if you were a Jan and Dean fan you will recognize this tune to Sidewalk Surfin

  • we had to sing this song in choir.. she makes a good song turn into a bad one.

  • Definitely one of the greatest groups of all time. Brian wrote some incredible song. My favorite is God Only Knows.

  • how i love the Beach Boys going way back !

  • surf is not a sport its a life style

  • they're actually saying "every saturday boy"

  • it sounds like suk my big butts

  • coool

  • side walk surfing was a better version anyways :P

  • Really Chuck48ful? If you were so knowledgable you would know that Catch a Wave didn't chart...as it was not released as a single

  • Then, after both bands stopped playing for the night, Brian and company came back upstairs and asked the Del Vikings to play the song again. Unbeknownst to the Dels Brian and company recorded the song. Richard said he even saw the recored but thought nothing of it. Two weeks to the day, Catch A Wave was on the charts. Richard heard the song and could not believe it. But, because he had not copywrited the song, there was nothing he could do.

  • @Chuck48ful The Beach Boys never would have done that to someone, especially with their dad Murry's moral guidance.

  • I would love to let you think I was a loser, pea brain, but the facts are facts. Richard Mace, currently of Sun City AZ wrote the song when he was a member of the Del Vikings. Met the guy, saw his orginial manuscript. The Del Vikings and Beachboys happened to be in the same town at the same club playing. When the Beachboys were on a break, they sat and listened to the Del Vikings play Catch A Wave. More to come. =)

  • i love the beach boys they're one of my favorite bands!

  • chuck48ful is a loser. You can only steal someones music if you make it sound worse than the origional. In catch a wave this sounds better. haha

  • This song reminds me of my graqndpa's birthday in 1988 when the temperature reached 98 degrees.

  • I love this song. I also like Jan and Deans version "Side walk Surfin"

  • Probably the only Beach Boys song with a harp. Love this song.

  • You can hear a harp at the start of In My Room, too

  • I wish i knew how to surf...I tried it in Malibu in the 80s in a bikini and lost my suit it.... was twisted around my thigh..i was stark naked when the life guard saved my life...it is so hard to do

  • listen carefully at 1:36, after the third catch a wave they say suck my dick in the background

  • ROFL, would have never caught that otherwise

  • I remember when I had my first beer too

  • yeah but you cant remember when your balls dropped cuz it never happend

  • just be a good boy and do what the doctors tell you. Then you can look for more 4th grade humour

  • why dont you just fuck off and stop ruining peoples fun

  • Oh Lord!!! Been listening to this song for most of my life and heard this for the first time.

  • @flyingchickenmonkey Sounds like

"suck my big butt" to me.

  • @flyingchickenmonkey

  • @flyingchickenmonkey no they don't

  • @flyingchickenmonkey nice i heard that

  • @flyingchickenmonkey that would be funny but they actually say 'such a big board' not nuck my big dick hahaha. Although type in 'The Beach Boys - Heroes And Villains (Vocal Session #1)' and you will hear brian wilson say the F word, i was so stoked when i heard it.

  • @flyingchickenmonkey Hahahaha they do!

  • @flyingchickenmonkey

not only that but after he says suck my dick at 1:36 , they sarcasmly say "Ooooh wah , oooh wah" in a dirty way because they knew they were being dirty.

  • @flyingchickenmonkey he definitely says it. Good call.

  • Awesome video - captures the song perfect especially the pipeline shots. Thanx for posting this. My all time fave song

  • Brian uses the symbols or something similiar to make sounds like waves breaking

  • The Brian Boys are one of a kind

  • That's the Beach Boys.

  • I also like Jan and Deans version "Sidewalk Surfin"

  • Odd Fact: Many people thought Dennis was the lead vocal when it was actually Mike Love with a cold.

  • this song is amazing...i love the beach boys <3

  • Cool, baby!!!!

  • Great footage of the surfers inside the "pipeline"!

  • The pendleton shirts seen on album cover and photos were part of California surf scene in those early surf music years and in school wear.

  • My wife refers to this shirt style as "Truck Driver Shirts".

  • True Beach Boys! This is what they were all about! Fan Forever!

  • Went surfing for the first time this weekend. What a blast!

  • they'll eat their words with a fork and spoon!

  • @DeeDonner Are you sure he didn't say "Dork and Spoon?"

  • "Not just a fad..." I beg to differ.

  • @Wilkes:

    From Wikipedia:

The art of surfing was first observed by Europeans in 1767, by the crewmembers of the Dolphin at Tahiti.

Thats a bit long to be a fad, don't you think?

  • This song I grew up became my summer hit favorites

  • nice video

  • very funky :)

  • right on Hawthorne..who wudda thunk that such talent was lurking right in our own back yard..changed the world of music, these boys did..Ask P. McCartney who had the best harmonies and he will say the Wilson brothers, Mike Love..

What a great time this was to grow up in!

  • I am going to try this song on my theatre organ!

  • SUMMER BABY :D SUMMERS COMIN

  • Never once attempted surfing... woulda, coulda, shoulda. Although I was a pretty decent body surfer.

  • Never too late. I surfer when I was in my teens and just took it up again at 57. Don't be afraid to try the greatest sport around. Catch A Wave & you're sitting on top of the world!!! Very cathartic!

  • Heck, I'm 60, grew up a water rat with no ocean access...but Beach Boys on AM radio, so now that I have a flowrider within minutes of my house, I'm there whenever work and their schedule permits. Maybe it's not the ocean...but one does what one can.

  • @artenjoy body surfer= surfer DUDE !!!!!
