  • you scream like a girl, shame

  • I stood about 2 meters from that car when it played the national anthem at Donnington it was epic :P

  • hahaha Hamster is hilarious

  • 1:39 Lol

  • Comment removed

  • we need a race between stig and tiff now that would be epic XD

  • @F1ferrari09 aren't they the same people lol

  • That's awesome star spangled banner f1 style

  • @mattsmitty1 Lol it's God Save the Queen not Star Spangled Banner! :D

  • i always thought f1 cars were fast. but after this one i started to realize it

  • They need to make these street legal

  • @trumpetplayyer001

Yeah, imagine firing this up in the morning when you go to work.

    Vrooom!!! Idling F1 car at 6000 rev's. :)

    "Morning neighbor"

They'll be able to still hear you when you arrive at work. xD

  • @trumpetplayyer001 Or just make the engines and gearboxes commercially available

  • This is a bit like a fighter jet. Impossible to drive slow.

  • Having driven an f1 car, I've got to say unless you go flat out they'll bite you in the ass, just like what happened to Richard. If your scared of it you don't stand a chance!

  • That was an F1 car from the era of V10s.

  • I can't hear what he is saying

  • Even tho hammond is.... terrible - just see the silverstone 24 episode to see how bad May and Hammond really are - I DO think it was HORRIFICALLY unfair to drive an f1 car on this ridiculous circuit - no wonder he couldn't get any temp into anything - they were all hairpins.

plus carbon brakes - basically an on-off switch unless they're at perfect temp.

  • This really shows how hard it is to drive an F1 car. Richard Hammond drives the fastest production cars in the world whit ease, drifting them around the Top Gear test track and he stalls the F1 car several times and never had full throttle(except for a hundreth of a second)

So before you guys say that hes a noob or that you're better keep in mind that Hammond is a far better driver then you and drives supercars for a living, so you probebly would have crashed the car before it left the pit lane

  • @Petri87 Yep, some people think everythings so easy, didnt he also say that stalling one in first gear would make the car go in about 60 kph?

  • @Petri87 Hammond and Clarkson are rubbish drivers. That's why they drift everywhere, because they can't drive fast and it looks good for the camera. That said I'm sure pretty much nobody could just jump in an F1 car and drive it. It just pains me to hear people worship TV presenters as good drivers. If you want TV presenters that are watch fifth gear. They are proper race drivers.

  • @ScoopH2H Jeremy Clarkson is actually a good driver, he once had a race with a pro driver (in the same car) and he was doing a pretty good job at keeping up with them

  • @ScoopH2H Fifth gear......LOL

  • @ScoopH2H I beg to differ. They are pretty much on equal standing.

That said, i'd love to see a race between Jeremy Clarkson and Tiff Needell. I get goosebumps just thinking about it :D

But seriously, though - if you REALLY want a tv show with REAL racing drivers as presenters - Best Motoring / Hot Version from Japan. Keiichi Tsuchiya is GOD.

  • @NagaTen clarkson v needell? surely a easy win for tiff, he used to race le mans back in the day, was leading the 24h briefly a few years back too.

  • @cocorocks88 Tiff drove in F1 too, but shortly at that. Clarkson is just a good guy, but nothing close to a driver. A race between them will be a joke.

  • @NagaTen Given that Needell is a former professional racing driver, while Clarkson is a fat-mouthed seven-foot child with all-over middle age spread, such a race is not worth getting excited over.

  • LOL he was at Gear 3 and he's like unbelievable! They should have got a bigger track for him and put him in Gear 7 =) I would have loved to be him =D

  • @Richard97AUS like you're an expert at driving Formula One cars right?

  • I would love to try it out... But I'm not as short and skinny as Hammond so... no chanse... DOH

  • the engine sings!!!

  • every millisecond counts in an f1 car so left foot braking would save a good amount of time especially considering there isnt a clutch

  • and thats why there are only about 20 F1 drivers in the world lol

  • lolz, engine party beats xD

  • Over dramatic driver + break neck speed beautiful F1 car = the best viewing experience!! Awesome stuff ;-)

  • the clutch of f1 cars is in the steering whell! this depends of the driver!

  • To Alecoc14: you obviously have never done any sort of driving besides to the grocery store and back. please don't give advice when you don't have a clue about what you're talking about.

great top gear episode. loved it.

  • @dsslvd he isn't completely wrong @Alecoc14 that is, before sequential gearboxes came about they used to right footbrake then heel toe whilst using the left foot for the clutch. Check out senna driving around suzuka in a nsx for how to drive a manual shift properly.

your right thou it was a top eerrrr, top gear episode :P

  • Comment removed

  • Err why should you not left foot brake? You do realise that some F1 drivers do left foot brake and right foot accelerate. Rubens Barichello is one of those drivers. You going to tell and F1 driver how to brake are you?! IDIOT!!

  • who is to say you shouldnt left foot brake, its perfectly fine in an auto. and racing an F1 car its probably smarter as it means theres less time between letting off the throttle and getting on the brakes. besides, F1 cars dont use a manual clutch when changing gears.

  • Obviously you dont know much F1, I'm 14 and although i dont really know the technical side of F1, i do know that shifting gears are operated by paddles behind the steering wheel! I dont think theres a manual clutch, you only accelerate and brake using your foot.

Learn more before speaking. If i'm wrong, at least im not as wrong as you.

  • Not quite correct. Under the Shifting paddles are the Clutch pedals. You only need them to start. While driving these are Quick-Shift Gearboxes with 2 clutches. They are used automatically and afaik you have two gears plugged in at the same time and then it changes faster between 2 gears with the 2 clutches. (Mclaren system I think). There is a clutch, you just don't need to push it to change a gear while driving. It's called semi automatic gear box, in German at least. (Halbautomatik-Getriebe)

  • @GTAstuntz

There is a clutch on the left bottom corner of the steering wheel. (Right below the shift lever) It is used for launching the car. Once you get up to speed it is automatic. I think the reason for that is because you need the engine to spin fast enough for the hydraulics to operate the automatic portion of the gear box.

  • @mastersgta1 Okay, thanks for the explanation for my comments a year ago. Hahas. :)

  • Rúgbrauð með rjóma á!

  • WITH SUCH BREAKING, the tyres are fored to be slick in the end ^^

  • Oh god, a singing engine XD

  • 'I'm gonna try the throtle and see. . . . Ooooooooooooohmyooohmygod!'

    Haha priceless.

  • are those slick tyres?

  • no they ar not

  • hmm how do you know..they look like them at the end...

  • they look like them at the end but theyre definitely not slicks when hamster is driving it!

  • nope, im pretty sure what we KNOW as slicks were banned. they made groves in the as only so much surface was allowed. at one point back in the old days, they had curtains, which could pull so many G's, you'd feel the brain mass just... pulling your head off XD

  • They play God Save the Queen with the Engine XD LOL. But it's nice to see such passion from someone getting a taste of a Formula 1 car. Of course he won't drive it like a pro since he's not trained for the bloody thing.

  • God Save the Queen indeed

  • If you are gifted and not only a rich driver/journalist you have the ability to feel how you can push to stay on the track and you don't push since the beggining because you learn nothing thhis way except being out and smoking tyres and losing time. He is shit at F1 cause that is harder than driving a porsche.

  • What I love most about this clip is that it shows to all the idiots who blast F1 exactly the type of thing the drivers are dealing with. Richard Hammond drives some of the fastest cars in the world as a job but he can't even get half way close to driving this thing. How can you not be amazed by F1 drivers after that?!

  • how to destroy formula one tyres in 5 turns withou preparation.

  • Are you going to do any better?

This is fucking hard to handle mate.

I bed you drive a FWD Peugeot!

  • I don't understand when ur discovering a new track and a new car, how you can go over the limit of the breaking power of a F1. U start going slowly you decelerate and each time u pass on each turn u see where you can go faster, but braking that way at the beggining of the exercice is a real problem, it means you don't the the track and you start to brake too late, for a begginers, he is the worst lol.

  • Because Hammond is a racer perhaps?

    He knows his shit!

  • As he say, F1 car is totally different. I am not sure he s better than me or than you in a formula one car, I drive 125 cc kart with speeds, maybe it's not the same but that's the best base for this exercise. I am surely shit at driving an f1car but braking that way all the curvs he sees I think is hard, and what a track very hard ^^

  • It's nothing with him being shit or breaking too late. It's because the brakes are cold and being on Silverstone's Stowe circuit in an f1 car is like driving a kart around a garden. He would have no feel for the brakes as Carbon brakes simply don't work until they are fully up to temp and basically there is no chance that they would get warm enough on that circuit.

  • well if you watched that episode of top gea you would know that he went to slow through the turn and therefore the car didn't produce enough downforce and then spinned around and acted weird

  • gives me the shivers to hear the engine play that

  • Even though i would suck at it, i would still verry verry verry much like to drive an f1 car someday.

But i guess annyone here would. (want it and suck at it)

  • me too i have the ambitions to drive one too which is why im gonna start go karting and then ask my parents to buy me a go kart so i can compete in national karting championships and then i think my career will start then . remember if theres a will theres a way , so u have to always believe in urself that you can make it into f1

  • Got a long way to go, and only a handfull drive F1. And before F1 you have alooot of competition. Not to ruin your dreams or anything, good luck anyway :P

  • You need so much money, in F1 like karting, like GP2, like A1Gp, there is many rich people who has nothing to do there, but they are there. I hop you learn vry fast, cause if you don't nee dmuch money, you don't practice a lot, so your not the best. I have a friend champion in formula renault 3.0 l and he stopped because of the lack of money. He was the best of people who didn't practice all the week end thanks to their rich parents.

  • 'It just goes mental!' lmao

  • shut up like any of you know how hard to press an f1s brakes, it would take a long time gettin them to temperature on that track. no one on youtube has driven one and neither have i

  • @NutWarrior mark webbers on youtube somewhere but i won't give away ^^

  • @NutWarrior I have driven one - check my videos.

  • @NutWarrior It's a short track, very short track. Even schumacher would have done a few cold laps to build up some heat in tires and the brakes. Hell even in a race most drivers are losing heat in the brakes and tires just following the safety car.

  • Hes hitting them too hard. F1 cars don't need a ton of brake to slow down, so much downforce.

  • hes pressing on the brakes too hard should be until it almost locks

  • His brakes locked up alot, but still a good run. The ending with the f1 car was funny makin music with a formula 1

  • Hammond you lucky bastard....

I envy you for the rest of my miserable life!

  • Damn that is some crazy fast accelarating

    !!!!!!!!!!

  • lol i like the ending!

  • holy shit the last party bit was amazing.

  • d first time he says oh my god oh my god...sounds like he's having an orgasm!!

  • he probably had one...

  • im not makin fun of him but he was going yessss ive done it, brilliant, and he only done 2 laps, imagine what he would be like in a proper 40 odd lap race lol

  • Well, considering that he's probably never experienced G forces of that calibre, I don't blame him for feeling like king of the world after a run like that.

As for him doing a proper race length in that car, I don't know if he'd survive. :X

  • OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! haha

  • honestly , i think it's just like he said...

brake not on temprature. These cars do normally need atleast 1 tracklap (2.5/5km) to really warm up the brakes/tires.

And as he stated in the beginning: "everything i've learned..." this has superpower on a kart-chassis...totally drives different . But then again , he was the luckiest man on the planet at that moment.

Wish i could do that sometime in my life.

    Wkr

  • Well, I think that

  • well its obviosly the wheels keep locking because of that the set up of the car,and the camber!

  • wahh that was cool...nice party piece at the last part! really amazing

  • goos song on the last bit!

  • Amazing. What a glorious piece of... sorry i cant use the word "hardware", its so much better than that... suggestions please?

  • :o !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ohhh GOOOD, ohhh GOOOD :))

  • Ah !! I wish!
