(continued) to clarify my last comment, I'm not saying I agree with how Youtube's been acting what with the suspension of accounts and such. I'm just saying that it seems to me it really stems from government action...and those actions that don't stem from government action are legitimate. That doesn't mean I agree with them. I think it's pretty terrible to go around suspending accounts for seemingly no reason at all.
I am criticizing YT for its utter disregard of its user base. I do not imply anywhere that YT does not have the right to do what it wants with its own bandwidth.
My point is that even if it is disregarding it in one aspect, it is still satisfying most of them, on the whole, overall. Otherwise they wouldn't use Youtube anymore. The way in which they are upsetting people is not enough to offset the ways in which they are satisfying them.
Now like I said, i think they would do even better if they weren't upsetting some people, lol.
Youtube is perfectly within its legitimate (not just legal, but legitimate) to censor whoever.
However as stated in your blog, the problem is the copyright laws, which stem from the state.
In this video it seems more like you're simply against the authority....well any business has authority. If they don't like a customer they can throw them out of the store. This is how a proper working of property rights. However i do feel that without copyright, Youtube wouldnt do a lotta the things it does
All youtube accounts and content are technically the property of youtube, which you have to agree to or they won't let you upload data on their server.
So yeah, it's really their account. I mean, it's like a hotel that you don't have to pay for.
Would you call it archotel if they decided that all rooms will have green rugs instead of letting the inhabitants pick between green and blue? :/
Yeah I had to have this shitty new design since my suspension. You guys were sparred for around a month longer. Maybe they will have more options later on.
but I don't feel that I have that much room to say anything because they're the one's providing the service. The only thing we can do is use it or not.
I don't feel it's very draconian considering. . . they own it.
Sure they own it, but the thing is that they aren't listening to their fucking customers. Overwhelmingly the user base does not want this. It isn't draconian, but it sure as hell isn't good business.
Alright, read your blog, and I think my opinion on it changed. Very good stuff (bookmarked your blog as well btw).
Funny thing is, I found quite a few good anarchists through Fringe Elements alone, and I encourage people to start uploading videos to a new service and using that.
Sadly, in a way, this is still our biggest vein of self-expression to people we don't know yet :[

I agree - that best sucks!
A reasonable thing would be to offer users a choice of channel styles - with varying degrees of functions & the ability to personalize.
The obvious issue with Beta - aside from navigating them (!) is the lack of personalization possible:(
