  • I will take this song as pro American 100 percent ! it is a warning from an outsiders viewpoint !

  • Rufus, Rufus Rufus...you always touch me with your musical talents. SUBLIME. Need I Say MORE?

  • This song is awesome.

  • I wish he had a less nasal voice. But the song is really good !

  • I LOVE him!

  • Bravo!

  • My favorite part is when he holds the one note at 3:00 and changes the chord structure for a bit and continues the chorus.....SOO CREATIVE TO DO THAT!!!

  • Wow!!!!! AMAZING vocal performance.

    And I love this song

  • wow This song makes me completely cry !!!

This melody on top of those harmonies are so beautifull and strong !

Beautifull concert yesterday at Palais des Beaux-arts in Brussels !!!!

    Kiss

    Mathilde

  • Rufus Wainwright, the Bible makes it clear, you will go to Hell if you make love to someone of the same sex.

  • @joeschmoe2003 The bible condemns divorce and condones slavery. Fortunately, we have moved on and now know better.

  • @parsifal3142 Well, then I guess divorce must be wrong and slavery must be right.

  • @parsifal3142 And before anyone thinks I condone slavery, I am 100% against it. However, I did not write the Bible.

  • @joeschmoe2003 But you quote from it (selectively) very well.

  • @parsifal3142 Well, what do you propose then? That I become an atheist?

  • @joeschmoe2003 Life is short and love is scarce. I wish well anyone who finds it. I dont understand why the religious make such an inordinate effort using the bible to dictate who people can love and what they can do in bed when the bible castigates so many other transgressions. Does one not work on Sundays, let women teach/hold authority, wear clothes of mixed fibres, hold their parent in contempt, eat pork or shell fish? Why single out homosexuality? Why force your religion on others?

  • @parsifal3142 Well I do all of those things, because I am not a Jew and therefore not bound to the Law of Moses.

I don't force my religion on others. I too have a right to freedom of speech, and therefore I have a right to say that I think homosexuality is wrong.

  • @joeschmoe2003 Most of the governments of the modern world, United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, the European Union, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, disagree with your view that homosexuality is wrong. But I admire your courage in clinging to the belief that your religious text holds absolute and universal truth despite overwhelming scientific, technological and philosophical evidence to the contrary.

  • @parsifal3142 And most of the governments of the modern world are wrong in many things. I am an American, but I view my government as a bunch of traitors who have sold out my nation, allowing large amounts of foreigners to immigrate to the United States and take our jobs; failing to control the border; allowing massive outsourcing; starting unjust wars in countries on the other side of the world; and failing to force immigrants to learn English. Why should I listen to my government?

  • @joeschmoe2003 Because the bible tells you to. Romans Chapter 13:1-6

  • @parsifal3142 Those passages speak about following the laws. I do follow US law.

  • @joeschmoe2003 sorry for bursting in on a private party but it just have to be said... you, an american, complaining about immigration? that's a real blast, I'd propably be lying on the floor right now catching my breath if it wasn't for the fact that I'm now scared shitless since I suspect you're actually serious....

  • @Fuffix513 We don't need more immigrants in this country. Our unemployment level is way too high to bring in any more immigrants. Until every American who wants a job has one, NO MORE IMMIGRANTS!

  • @newyears1985 Lol, Most Americans do not want to take the jobs that Immigrants accept.

  • I think he is talking about the worst elements of American society: bigotry/religious fundamentalism/vanity. We are all 'let down' by those who hate us because of our differences. The town was burned down by the mob fueled by hatred and ignorance.

This song and his voice is hypnotic.

  • Our society speak of God as if it were the only thing we care of, but we take others' lives arbitrarily, and we live ours from our animality and social appearances forgetting our souls completely. It is as sad. We have all burnt down our hearts. We all live in this town.

  • @antiguasbaterias What he HELL?

I just read your comment and thought how right you were, and then I checked out your channel and it's all sex videos! You don't have the right to write what you wrote. You can't be all philosophical and at the same time be the epitome of what your complaining about.

  • @ThsBehaviorsNtUnique

Oh, yes I can, I live in the same city. I'm sorry to disappoint you, I like sex videos, that's not what worries me most about myself. but..., just see, you're declaring I don't have the right to express the very best of me because I'm not the good I should be. But that's not true, and a bit superficial too. There is good and bad in everyone. However, I think there's no point in trying to improve a society. We can only change ourselves.

  • @parsifal3142 Religious fundamentalism is a problem? This country can only be saved by trusting God. As for "bigotry", I hope you include those who hate religious people.

  • @joeschmoe2003 I rest my case.

  • Awesome!!!

  • for Syaza Liyana (Malasia)

  • Having lived in this nation and served my country (USMC), I have no doubt about my loyalty. But the fundamentalist religiosity/hypocricy as well as the unjust war we are putting our young military people through, makes me so sad.....and in the meantime, we fawn over "celebrities" such as Jon and Kate! Would that it were different and I were younger, I would look to Canada.

  • Very well expressed by both you (changeso408) and Rufis. America has lost it's way and it's inspiration to the world. So much POTENTIAL ...Sad!

  • he's lookin hot here

  • *favorite*

  • Rufus = God.

  • @foolsgoldsoma Don't commit blasphemy.

  • Great!

  • Cool!

    Rufus Got a new fan.

    me:)

  • ... In English ????

  • for kazibao it's: "it is this appearance on France 3, which made me discover rufus ... and I love it,

    these songs are so beautiful!

    thank you for this video"

    J'adore cet artiste !

    Merci !!!

  • For those who don't understand the reaction of the public, you've got to know that this is a show where intellectuals debates for 2 hours before the singer come for the last 5 minutes (around 1AM), this show is known in France to be very calm and cultural, the public ALWAYS look like statues there... And to goorackelite, the show often talk about the US, with American writers, journalists etc... this is the last place you'll see « snoberry» toward english.

  • @Smoke59440 And the worst thing is they neither understand nor speak english...

  • je l'ai decouverte en direct cette chanson je suis rester devant cela ma semblé interminable et c'ete bon il nous a hyptnotiser c'ete grandiose la force du regard et de la voie n'est qu'admiration

    bravo et merci

  • I concur. The problem with this video is the pictures. The sound is stunningly great.

  • I wish the video was edited better, but brilliant regardless.

  • Rufus is a god live!

    I agree with you all...

such an fabulous performance and people seem made of stone.

  • He is amazing !

  • Wow, that must be one of his best vocal performances to date. Piano acoustics are always brilliant.

I have no clue why those people look so bored, I would either have been grinning my face off or crying my eyes out if I were to watch such an amazing performance live.

    Gosh, I love that man.

  • It may be because they didn't understand English. I'd love to see Rufus record a version of this song in French. It's one of the best song's he's ever written, IMO.

  • That's a fair point. But I sometimes listen to French music and am moved by it even if I don't understand what it means. I understand that part of the power of a song like "Going To A Town" is the political meaning of its lyrics but I believe that a beautiful song is a beautiful song regardless of lyrics or language.

  • What's wrong with these people? It was just so beautiful.I lived in France for 7 years so I don't care saying this: the French can really be stuck up sometimes.A little more recognition would have been good.

  • Absolutely spellbinding! Man's a genius!!

  • what the hell all those people are like statues!!! lol. but i gotta say beautiful vocal by rufus. *sigh*
