As I recall, Dr. Joseph Mengele also known as the Angel of Death was a legendary physician in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz lived in Ecuador when the heat was on for him in Argentina.
Want to live well and cheaply look at Prague and Warsaw. Tucson isn't too bad either.
@MrPoophead1000 I agree with you. This video is so scripted by non threatening white people to entice unassuming people to potentially high risk situations.
@jdh91741 Yea, it's totally exaggerated, Its all about greedy real estate companies, tell people its so cheap and when you finally get here, the so called gringo realtors shows you homes and double the price.
HOW DOES IT FEEL NOT HAVING FLUORIDE IN THE WATER? WHAT ABOUT NO HAVING ANY PESTICIDES IN YOUR FOOD? WHAT ABOUT NOT BEING SPRAYED WITH CHEMICALS? WHAT ABOUT NOT BEING HARRASED BY THE POLICE ON THE STREET FOR DRNKING ALCOHOL? I JUST HOPE THEY DON'T DESTRO IT.THAT'S ALL.
USA HAS 900 MILITARY BASES IN OVER 130 COUNTRIES. NOW BANKRUPT!

I was thinking of moving there. Crohn's disease has put me on disability so I was looking for places I could enjoy and afford to live. Currently in FL and I like it but not sure I can afford it long term. Just scarred to make the leap into the unknown...I mean...just fly in and say "take me to a place I can rent" ? You know how change can be..my checks are automatically deposited...would I need to change banks? I am only 45 and just want to enjoy the rest of my life in peace but just scarred.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I AM SO PROUD TO BE ECUADORIAN AND FOR YOU TO LOVE AND APPRECIATE MY COUNTRY GOD BLESS YOU GUYS THANKS FOR INVESTING IN MY COUNTRY WITH YOUR LOVE MONEY IDEAS AND WONDERFUL VIDEOS YOU HAVE PUT IN THE SPACE TAKE CARE LOVE MY RICH WONDERFUL ECUADOR !!!!
Thanks for this video. It is always nice to hear someone talk nice about our city. Let's hope the visitors and new citizens take care of this beautiful city and keep it cossi, clean and make it better.
We took a trip to coastal Ecuador in May and we loved it!!!!!!!!!! If you dont give it a try, you will never know. I find that some of these videos and information that you can get in books at the library is a little over the top and can be a bit scary, and Im sure there are places where you could find trouble like in every city or town, but the culture itself is so laid back and they love life, the celebrate life. So go, check it out and enjoy!!! It wont be your last trip, believe me!!
We learned about Ecuador from International Living as well...thankfully they have educated us a lot about S. America. Its beautiful there...we are making our second trip there in just a few days and cant wait.
@robianstey i am seriously considering ( early planning stages ) a short term stay, 3months early next year. I would be very curious to hear how things went and any tips.
@mindful2me we went for a few days only in May and we loved it. We are planning to go back in January for 4 mths...we are going to rent first then we will buy something...............Yes there are areas where poverty and dirt is pretty much in your face and clearly evident but there are places where its just so peaceful and laid back. I think you will love it. You wont know until you give it a try :)
@dyamenh There is no such thing, i mean yeah there som fags who can try to bother some people because their aspect, but it's simple that, Cuencanos are good people, you'll feel like home there.
The word manana is mostly used by kids I think...lol....when a parent says to the kid....go do something (hw, dish washing, etc) the kid says ya yaa manana....lol...
I was born and raised in Cuenca, and I've been living in the States for 9 years now and I got to say that I really miss the laid-back attitude of the people in my hometown. I really understand what you mean by mañana LOL.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Cuenca is a city that welcomes every visitor, I saw that as I was growing up and I see that when I go back on vacation.
I'm glad more and more people are falling in love with Cuenca, it is truly a great city to live in. Cheers.
How about the health care issues...do either of you have any needs that can't be met in Ecuador? Are you able to pay for Insurance down there..or do you just pay cash? How does that work?
@drand11 ... health care in Ecuador is cheap, and they have one of the best selection of doctors and specialists availiable. Without Insurance, a doctor's visit would be about $30. National Insurances are available if you feel you will be visiting the doctor more often. So you can do either depending on how often you normally visit the doctor. They accept major credit cards as well.
@slugo4449 I'm originally from Cuenca but I made my life in NYC. I haven't heard yet of mature american people who had problems acclimating in Cuenca, not regarding to the elevation. Temperature in Cuenca is 50-60F (chilly during the nights), rarely temperature decreases until 45F or up to 65F, it's like spring the whole year, sky is semi-clowdy most of the time.
