@collinbucci The Q would have sorta a shivery sound to it when it winds up. This is a siren for like Ambos and only the fire engines would have the air raid Q. But i like both the Q2B and the EQ2B
at such empty roads it's kind of pointless to let the siren on the whole time. Yes I know it's state law. Here in Germany it is federal law to keep the siren on until arriving at the scene, but at such road/traffic conditions we switch them off on our own responsibility. Has wored well, not one accident with responding vehicles in Regensburg City and County in the last several years.
But I think you would get a ticket from the police?
@cubeyuk so true! British, Dutch, German, Danish and Norwegian ambulance (and other EMS/Fire vehicles) drivers are the ones that go the fastest to the scene. But in these countries people actually know how to pull over on time ^^
In all my years as a Emergency Medical Dispatcher, I would always ask "fell out of what" whenever I got one of the someone "fell out" calls. Just to see what the caller would say!
Just curious, but I've been in front of an ambulance in rush hour traffic before - is there a particular reason why they honk so veraciously with the siren? Where I was people were stopped at a red light and we all moved as far right as we could without hitting other cars and the ambulance still blared at us like we were supposed to hit the other cars even though we couldn't move any more. Is it mostly just something they tell you you have to do or the ambulance driver's decision?
Ah okay. I wasn't sure if any ambulance drivers ever kind of did it because they were angry with the other motorists or out of sheer safety. The light was green for us to go straight and that's the way he went so once we moved aside I figured he'd just go on through.
One other question - are you limited on how fast you can go mainly based on your personal decision of how safe the speed would be? Like doing 100 mph on an open, empty flat stretch of expressway or do they forbid that completely?
Ah, are there ever any exceptions - like say if the patient is in critical condition? This would certainly explain why I never see ambulances going much faster than everyone else. Theoretically though, no cop would stop you for speeding if you had your lights and sirens on would they? I mean, that seems like pulling over a speeding cop or something - except worse since they don't know the condition of the patient.
Anyway, keep up the good work - you're a good driver!
Our department states 10 MPH, but even with a critical patient, we go through red lights, and have people yield to us, so we have to be even more cautious. that and we cant start or stop too fast because of the pt. and our crew in the back. we dont want to throw them all around. i usually do the speed limit on normal roads, but the highway i'll do 10 over.
@s5medic516 Ours does as well, however I don't know of anyone who follows that though. I'm just waiting for the time one of us gets into an accident and they review the dash cam....someone will be looking for a job.
in our province its the discretion of the responding medics when to use sirens. Though on a code call lights or sirens must be used. Depends on severity of the call as well. the province uses an alpha bravo charlie delta echo response guide, with echo being most serious. Alpha is patient transfer or non code run. Bravo can be run code but usually is not. Charlie and above are always code runs.
since you seem to know the "proper" technique for everything, wny not make videos to show everyone? or is it just easier to nitpick things, and ignore state laws.
In Virginia it is state law, if you have lights on you have to have on your siren. Also I love the idea of having dual sirens running. When I am coming to an intersection I want to have the best chance at people hearing me and getting out of my way. And to the people who complain about the noise, sorry, but you'll be glad to hear us coming when your the one in need!
Also with VB Rescue we have priority 1, or priority 2. Priority 1 is lights and sirens and priority 2 is normal driving. Some people go lights and sirens for "time and distance" Some of the folks will at night run just lights until they get to an intersection as to not wake people up by the station and piss off people who could give us a possible donation.
What agency do you run with? I run with Virginia Beach Rescue Squad. Station 14, also Medical Transport. In the EVOC class we where told in the state of VA if your lights are on, you have to have sirens. Maybe I was told wrong.
thats what the law is. At night i try to take a surface route to the station that goes mostly by businesses, or i'll just tap manual at some intersections.
If Emergency Services are running code, then I like it if they continually utilize their siren, because then I can hear them several blocks before I even see them and know that I should be alert because you never know where they'll pop out from. And then that is when the lights come in handy, because it is easier to pin-point the location of flashing lights versus a siren. That is my two cents worth. (P.S. Love your video's s5medic516, keep up the good work and stay safe!!!)
Syncope . "fainting" or "passing out" . It's a state of an altered level of consciousness that is brought on by what I learned in EMT class . AEIOUTIPS !
55 seems pretty fast on that road( just past the stop sign)

Nice, clear steady video!
Why two sirens? No more effective than one.
Why siren when no one is there?
Trying to wake everyone in the morning?
Why blast driver who is already pulling over?
Use eQ on Manual and sound PRN.
Siren sound is much better then fake airhorn.
Yes, your LEDs are very nice, even moreffective if all flashing simultaneously.
Nice country.
Please keep posting.

I have videos since 1989.
Don't have ability to upload them on YouTube.
But you can think for yourself and not need our examples.
Not state laws - look it up.
Ask yourself the same questions.
Our SOPs are based on intelligence and crew discretion.
We are considerate.
Quiet when possible.
Better lights mean less noise annoyance.
robertgift 2 years ago
I have looked it up and read it in the ohio revised code, its also in our department SOP's, so dont say its not when your from a different state.
CTFD13 2 years ago
Thanks, 13.
Could you paste Ohio RSs here?
We sound only as needed.
Approaching red intersections often just two up-down sweeps. But if no vehicles are approaching their green signal, we remain silent.
Another has siren CONSTANTLY blaring.
We safely travel the same route quietly when possible.
This annoys the public as little as possible.
Occasionally we receive compliments for being considerate.
Also it lessens becoming overconfident in the siren. Often it is not heard.
robertgift 2 years ago
When responding Code 3, warning lights must be on and sirens must be sounding continuously
as a warning to other drivers, as required by Ohio Motor Vehicle laws.
Check the website if ya still dont believe me. Just because its not what you believe, doesnt mean its NOT different in other states.
CTFD13 2 years ago 4
Can you copy and paste, or provide a link?
(Easier than typing out what you did.)
I am looking for the little "or" in the Statutes. Was told the same here, then found "lights or siren"!
It makes no sense to have sirens blaring when no one is there to hear it (them) but people in their homes.
I don't believe it states: "When responding Code 3, ...sirens must be sounding continously ..."
(How ridiculous having more than one siren.)
