  • Every melanesian islands have a little percentage of Polynesian people living there(Fiji-Rotumans)(PNG-Motuans, Trobrian Islands, Mortlock Islands) (Soloman Islands-Tipoki Islanders) etc.. but that does not make it a Polynesian country..it's a melanesian country same as Fiji...

  • @143Pacifika thank you brother for making it clear

  • @heymaytt rotuman are rotuman are they got their own kingdom like its own country with in Fiji just like rabi and Avery clan knows it with in Fiji but it was our task to make them learn their own culture and its worked very well in fiji and rotuma but its important the overseas born know their true history and words i rather see that happen then being Polynesian or shit

  • @heymaytt we are fijian by birth and blood we belong to Melanesia because we come in different colours.

  • @marcellin20 We are born in Fiji but we want to make a name for rotumans and have our own identity what's wrong with being called rotuman and not fijian. There are hardly any rotumans so we are just representing where we are from so the whole world can know. And it's hard when we say were fijians and people say we look like samoan and tongan. So what's wrong with saying we are rotuman to show people who we are.

  • @heymaytt And big change is happening in Fiji we getting a lot of Asian like the Chinese and this last few years development has boomed and alot more people getting internet back home because its time we move foreword with the right mind set and still know our roots.

  • @marcellin20 Im half fijian and half rotuman and i can see where they are coming from. There are alot of rotumans that have married fijians so that doesn't mean we dont want to marry fijians because we think we are superior. The reason is because there are hardly any Rotumans compared to the other islands and we are trying to keep our culture alive, That is probably the reason we cant afford to all mary fijians then there would be no more Rotuma and no more Rotumans

  • That just shows how diverse Fiji. We both have polynesian and melanesian people which come under one nation. FIJI PRIDE ALL FIJIANS POLYNESIAN AND MELANESIAN <3

  • Fiji is never part of Melanesia..it's Polynesia. It has no relations of any sort with melanesia.

  • @tilioism hey brother we Fijian are Melanesia some look Polynesian but sadly their Melanesian

  • No you dumb cunt the ones that look like polynesian obviously have polynesian in them. your a dick if someone looks like this or that obviously means they have polynesian in them.

  • Vinaka vakalevu for sharing this video, ...it's a great educational video and I'll certainly be showing this to my 2 little boys, who are keen dancers themselves. Plis post more cultural performances videos, if u do have any..Loloma's from the Irish seas.

  • @vuaka -- quite rightly said, my friend.. I am a native fijian too, and I often hear my village elders saying that Rotumans are family just as much as the Tongans are, to us Fijians. By the way, I love all performances in this video...well done, mate!!

I am full fijian oooo proud of it never denied the fact based on look palagi is more superior... that why poly and mela left grass clothes and headed palagi way!!!!

  • Stop this hatred....OK I am an Indian guy OK....People are people and we are all human beings. Love TURUKAWA....

  • Rotuma is Fiji like any other Islands in the country of Fiji. People who think that Fiji does not do Hula is wrong. Rotuma which an Island north of Fiji does the hula and so does the people of Rabi. I say this because I know my country more then people from any poly crap nonsense

  • ii love your answer!!!!

  • rvn041 Rotuma is part of Fiji just like Kadavu is,... what do u mean we cant stand on our own two feet.. You should be Thank ful that your spelling is not any worse..

  • beautiful nice job with love from micronesia marianas islands (chamori natives)palau, yap, chuuk, ponape, marshallsand karibiti.

  • Isa...mutu bula mai na Sauca...hey ppl...I know this guys...its all malenesians and a bit of poly..

  • ya Fiji is like mix....melanesian and lil bit of poly

  • would have looked 50 tymez beta if they had afroz, awsome peformance though

  • rotumans should be thankful that fiji is lookenf after them...they can stand in their own two feet...

  • what an awful thing to say!!! and who do you suppose looks after fiji! truth is rotuma is part of fiji, you racist! && im fijian, australian born, but that doesnt make me any more civilized than a rotuman, people like you make me dry reach! .... you obviously need to some education on "equality and on your history!...."

  • RESPECT!!!

  • ♥Fiji.

fucking hell: look at some of these people, arguing over polynesians & melanesians. please! neither is superior (obviously)

    ps. Fiji is still awesome.

  • Meke boys....isa i miss home!

  • Daaang...wats with all the arguing back and forth???...all i know is i love fiji and fijians...my peoples...and go kadavu!!! me...hahaha

  • and as a samoan combined with bit of asians in my blood, i myself do not look at the melanesians any different, that's jst straight up racist, im with a mixed african and caucasian guy and our kids turned out looking brown,so yeah, it doesnt really matter what color our skin are, we are all considered humans and Adam and Eve are our first parents and maybe there's a reason why God colored us all different but one thing i know, we are all bros and sisters in God's eye n yet we're all equal..

  • ZaLani,

To be honest Fijians do not look at Pacific Islanders any different, we treat Miconesians, Melanesians and Polynesians all the same. It does come as a surprise to us when we do hear or read quiet often on the net Poly's trying to belittle Fijians. We usually laugh it off and really can not understand why an islander group would think that. I mean, if you told me Polys conquered the Pacific maybe then I'll agree with the notion of being "superior".

  • why do you forgot the Moluccan people?

  • TO nyongrmo: USE ARE LIKE THE FILOPINOS WHO CLAIM POLYNESIAN LOL... NOW WE HAVE INDONESIANS THAT HAVE THAT INDIAN/SRILANKEN LOKK AND DECIDE TO USE THE WORD MELANESIAN? GO CHECK OUT THE FIJI BATI TEAM AND THE PNG KUMUL SQUAD... THATS WHAT MELANESIANS LOOK LIKE U WANABEE.. BY THE WAY THEM COUNTRIES I MENTIONED ALSO HAVE OTHER INFLUENDES IN THEM LIKE MICRO/POLYNESIAN BUT ARE PROUD TO REP MELA PEACE YALL

  • well vuaka samoan is independent and not ruled by white people whatsoever, and yet there are some famous samoan bloods out there that you might have heard of, and as far as our culture, tradition and christianity...those 3 things make us well known too, i have white people telling me here in Australia how awesome it is to be an islander, how people respect each other especially the youngsters to the elders...and most of these palagis do wish they were part of us...

  • re: famous Samoan blood

I'm not trying to stir but what does that have to do with anything? personal achievements does not make a race superior.

    re: culture, tadition, christianity

How does this make you lot famous? I've travelled through Europe, Asia and Africa, more or less every one I met have only heard of Hawaii in the Pacific.

re: "most of these palagi's do wish they were part of us"

I beg to differ, no offense but being "white" in this day and age has advantages. FACT

  • cont>

I do not care what I look like outside to others, I am FIJIAN and Fiji is my home, no one can take that away from me.

  • I ROFL laughing when I hear Pacific islanders debating about who belongs to what group. Have any of these "groups" done anything to be proud of? LMAO...If I wanted to mix my "bloodlines", I would want it to be Israeli (Jesus), Greeks(Alexander the great/Spartans), Romans (Empire) British (Empire, innovators) or Zulu's(conquered Africa)...These were great civilisations, why would Fijians want to mix with mat weaving, canoe building polys?lol...not making fun, just pointing out the obvious

  • LOL@Marcellin

Rotumans in Australia and NZ, so you've met every Rotuman in NZ and Australia, probably you know my 50+ relatives in Australia and NZ? lol

    re: "Political" stance

lol...they do not want to mix their polynesian blood with Fijians???...lol...that has to be funniest comment ever...do you know in Fiji the term "Polyenisian" or "Melanesian" is hardly used by anyone, we couldn't care less about bloodlines, it's not a Pacific island group has done anything special to be proud of.

  • I work with the Rotuman and Tongan Communtiy plus I go to church with a lot of Rotumans to know where they are coming from. I'm talking about Rotumans in Australia and NZ if you didn't notice, not those living in Fiji and as for "political stance" -I added "could be" which means its not necessarily fact....just an assumption so relax.

  • Yes, I know you were only expressing a possibility, not fact, but to even think of any Rotuman would consider themselves "superior" to Melanesians is rediculous and laughable. As I've said before, what is so special about Poly's that would make them superior? you must have an answer if you suggested it. Is it the Poly culture, food, physic, sporting prowess, intelligence? Poly's hold no authority in any grouping I listed, lets be honest, palagi's rule most poly nations.

  • yeah I also added "maybe" when I stated that Polys were superior. As for that statement, you do get some polynesians as in 'Samoans and Tongans (to a lesser extent)' who seem to think that having fairer skin complexion makes them more superior to those with a darker skin complexion. Im not sure if this is something that may have been picked through European colonization or some other factor.

  • I agree @Marcellin

I see where you're coming from, to be honest, most Fijians were not aware of how some of these Poly's felt with regards to skin complexion until recently when the internet came to Fiji. If the Poly's think being lighter skinned is "superior", does that mean they think themselves inferior to palagi's? really sad,

My mom is English (white) and dad is Rotuman, I look more like my Mom, and I do get a 2nd gance from islanders outside Fiji when I say I'm Fijian.

  • the dancers are native fijians just like the maoris in new zealand and aborogines in aussie, the fijians are other people of other race.

  • Aye, Rotumans are fijian just like the Rabi and Kioans(Banabans). What kind of question is that. Dou.

  • now this is wat i call a real FIJIAN traditional dance !its like the shit dat some fijian perfomers like 2 put as traditional n thn wen u actualy get to watch the vid shows full FIJIAN gals doin the hula (at least it looks like they tryna do it n make it look like a hula !)..its pretty embarasin cos the hula is not part of fijian tradition..n peeps who watch the vids comment bout how fijians r d only P.I's dat have adopted other traditional dances n seem to claim it as their own !

  • Truzz up! A fijian woman doin the "hula" is like an insult to Fijians.Becoz it simply looks silly..lol.Now this clip perfectly represent the real tradition and diverse of a fijian community.Great video!

  • true as, eh.
