  • I've always wondered why this wasn't called Matchstick Men. Who says Matchstalk?!

  • brilliant song

  • The first time I heard this song was in an Alan Partridge episode called Bravealan - brilliant song!

  • I can remember my first teacher Miss O'Brien (RIP) get the class to sing this, 30+ five year olds trying to displace our Irish accents with genuinely Salford sounding 'alley-alley-ohs'

  • Brilliant makes me think of Alan Partridge.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • Manchester is still full of flat caps, not sure about the ferrits. Great City.

  • Fantastic song, takes me back to my childhood, cheers Brian and Michael, what a tribute to Lowry you're done him proud.

  • I live in the centre of Salford and like alot of places there does not seem to be the neighborly respect amongst people there once was.The flat cap has now changed to the 'hoodie'and the cobbled streets are now all tarmaced to make a better surface for the car thiefing scumbags racing around high on drugs... Still a beautiful song which brings back lots of fond memories to lots of people...

  • I'm 31 now. This is one of the earliest song a can remember. Beautiful song! Thanks.

  • there accents have changed..what about them Salford days??

  • My Dad grew up in a street like this - thanks!
