@politicomdk It doesn't go anywhere. It's still in the form of gravitational potential energy. The only way you could catch the ball like this is at the top of its arc. If you were to catch the ball here then bring it back down to ground level, it would lose potential energy.
@politicomdk potential energy is the energy of position, your catched ball does still have the p.e. it is clearly observed if you let it go again and it will accelerate down to earth enabling it to do work.
people considered full moon as a "god" thing until science enlightened them

@MrDoobious Well, there are two forms of energy; potential and kinetic. Heating is a process of energy transfer. Work is the other process of energy transfer.
@zippidy0 sorry it took so long for me to reply to you. Not believing is not w default postion because you are making a claim that there is no god. How do u know that? Don't say because you have not seen him. I'm sure you believe in lots of things you haven't seen with your own too eyes, that doesn't mean those things don't exist. If god was a something or someone that you where pose to see it would be different. But he is not. Please explain how you know there is no god
@bleedinmagnification it radiates out into the surroundings, doing work to speed up other molecules, perhaps the molecules in the walls of the container...
To simply not believe in god is a belief also. You are making a statement saying there is no God. You need proof for that claim. You need proof for that claim. The only way to be free from the burden of proving your belief you would have to say there may or may not be a god you don't know.
@jonathancooper1988 that is incorrect, because not believing in a God is taking a default position. It's the same as not believing there are fairies at the bottom of the garden.
Entropy Henry Poincare named the conception of "entropy " as a " surprising abstract " Lev Landau wrote: " A question about the physical basis of the entropy monotonous increasing law remains open " One physicist said : " The entropy is only a shadow of energy“ # History of Entropy 1 - Clausius : dS= dQ / T. 2 - Boltzmann : S= k log W 3 - Planck : h*f = kT logW # The formula of Entropy is : h*f = kT logW Israel Sadovnik Socratus
@kroflet There is, the ball is trasnferring its kinetic energy into thermal energy when its traveling against gravity as well. He made it seem like the force that accelerated the ball upwards was much greater then when the force of gravity acceled it downwards.
@ChirtyPoundsOfBoost Thanks! So the air resistance when the ball is being thrown upwards is much smaller than AR when the ball is moving back to the ground? Therefore, it's not "worth" mentioning the upward resistance?
@drakgrotta than its only releases a small portion of that energy it can be raised and given more energy or dropped again to release the remaining energy
It pisses me off when people use science to disprove the existence of a God when in fact the more you understand science, the more you start to realize there is a higher power that cannot be explained. Disproving something you can't explain doesn't make you logical, it makes you ignorant.

@ahmedkmh science has nothing to do with god or sins or "a test" it has to do with proof and evidence not blindly believing, it has to do with curiosity and eploration, not naivety and prophecies.
@ShamiranIvanof that "the more you understand science, the more you start to realize there is a higher power that cannot be explained" is entirely subjective. @ShamiranIvanof You're logic makes you an ignorant. You sir, are trying to prove something that is unprovable/knowable, so, you are doing the same thing. Thank you for letting us know that you are an idiot.
@ShamiranIvanof Word! I've been looking into blackholes, singularities, photons, quantum mechanics, entropy and energy in the last couple of months and the more I learn the more I believe in some form of consciousness that triggered it. Which of the many gods invented by men is the real god ?
The one you were taught by your fathers to believe in ? Alah, Zeus, Kaliman, Jupiter, Quetzalcoatl, Jesus, Tezcatlipoca? Which ?! Or we were created by a superior civilization that may have the problem of finding out if they also have a creator ?
@ShamiranIvanof It's important not to get pissed off at people.. also science offers an objective understanding of purely physical interactions, I'm inclined to beleive that a higher power is possible, not necessarily likely or unlikely.. I think a proffession of absolute belief or disbelief is irrational on the basis that we cannot understand the nature of god, at least in an objective way even if he were to exist..we are, in this world limited to what we can observe.
@ShamiranIvanof i hate it when people use the guise of being pissed off about people trying to prove something (which is entirely ok) to preech about god
@zzcookiemonster559 I am no quantum physicists but from what I understand matter is just another form of energy. That is where "string theory" comes in.
@karozans yup, string theory is a perfectly reasonable theory that is fully able to explain everything. however it prove to be near impossible to prove. so in the current state of technological advances, conservation of mass and energy is still the dominant theory
@zzcookiemonster559 No, e=mc^2 tells us that energy shows some relativistic mass in whatever form it takes. This does not mean energy is created, but that energy can be converted to mass. For example, when water freezes the more energy is released (lost from the system) than absorbed (added to the system), so water freezing is therefore exothermic. The ice cube will feel lighter than it did when it was water. A very small difference in mass but none the less the energy lost made the mass decline
I do like your videos, however sometimes i think you should pre-script them a little better. @Theoneandonly5811 The net sum of energy in the universe is 0 if you add the negatives and the positives. Therefore energy can come from 0, you just need the same amount of negative energy as positive energy.
@midgeamoo No, the energy of the universe is increasing with every motion of every particle. Energy MUST continue increasing to make entropy true. If planets form and stars form and die then they are both giving off a lot energy. More than the energy that will ever be gained by any system. It doesn't even make sense to say energy is neutral in the universe.
@VarykGerai How can you quote something that wasn't even in my response? By "more than the energy that will ever be gained by any system", I mean that with any system it can absorb and release energy. For example, when stars are dying they are releasing more energy than they are absorbing. Eventually the negatives outweigh the positives and the star no longer burns.
Does the First Law of Thermodynamics apply to cold and heat energy or does it extend into types of energy like electricity (or even bio-electric -neurons) for example?
If anyone can help me with this curiosity please send me a reply. Thank you.
I think this guy should go all the way and descibe much more indepth. In my opinion hes being to general and slow. Just shows ya teachers and how they believe things should be taught at any level. @qawsedrfr2 if you doubt it than try and disprove it. if you can disprove i will believe you but right now, i think your just jealous that everyone thinks sal is awesomee
@qawsedrfr2 so you would say that energy can be created and destroyed? have you ever heard of a planet destroying its gravity? And how would you go about creating energy? can a star be "perked" back up before it is going to burn out, no. So there IS a finite amount of mass and energy in the universe and at one point everyhting is going to be at a state of entropy, also i'm forteen and i understand this concept more than you :S
i have question: A glass cleaned in 45celcius hot water and placed on the table bottom up. The room air at 20 celcius that was trapped in theglass gets heated up to 40 celcius and some of it leaks out so the net resulting pressure inside is 2 kPa above ambient pressure of 101kPa. Now the glass and the air inside cools down to room temperature. what is the pressure inside the glass?
thanks alot..... i will subscribe and follow ur lectures... they are very helpfull... i am only now learning thermodynamics and my lecturer is a "salad"......... hehehe.... so this helps............. thank u...
This has probably come up and been answered, but what if someone catches the ball at the peak when it turns into all potential energy? It seems you created kinetic energy by throwing it up and the catcher destroyed all that wasn't transfered to the air while moving upward.
@MerkaMage - The theory of the Big Bang, does not state that its occurrence was derived from nothing; but rather from a singularity when space-time, and the four known forces were compacted together. Also, because the singularity wasn’t made up of matter, and instead space-time and the four known forces of nature (gravity, electromagnetism, the strong force, and the weak force): even if it was created from nothing, it still would not disobey the first law of thermodynamics.
technically energy can be created or destroyed, for example, if matter interacts with the correct amount of positron or "anitimatter", it creates a huge amount of energy.
MovieGuruMaker hahaha na im not retarded u genious, and i didn't figure that out by myself. What i put there was a VERY VERY VERY BRIEF explanation of how theoretical physicists could figure out about how this things work based on some kind of evidence and how they do those physically "impossible" stuff. im not a master physics or anything but i do know my stuff and those explanations seem actually very plausible in most cases.
@benalane so sure of what? and i wasnt present at the big bang ... was there a big bang? is there any proof were they there? i know the universe is here and wasnt always, huge energy has been moved into our universe from somewhere and something....that i am sure of
... basically we cant do shit because we just have very little understanding of how UFO crafts navigate ( YES THEY USE ANTIMATTER reactors to artificially create a very intensive field of gravity, they use this gravity as a "wave" because apparently for them it behaves like one, they focus this artificially created gravity in front of the craft so decreasing the time and therefore the space between distances; no physical laws are applied to them outside the craft)
@terrodar19 BAHAHA you are retarded. How do you know how UFO's navigate. thank you for making me laugh at you trying to explain how UFO's REALLY work. lol.
mh..... apparently there is something in this universe that im pretty sure challenges this law....i will let you people guess... 1rst one gets a cookie XD
if you catch the ball before it reaches the same point you threw it from, where does the energy go? can't you create situations where potential energy is cut off?
Thanks .But I have a question. Are we serving as a system or as a surrounding ?

at the earth's surface is gravitational energy density is roughly 5.73x10^10 Joules/m^3 g=9.806 m/s^2 @ldl1949

i have question: A glass cleaned in 45celcius hot water and placed on the table bottom up.

This has probably come up and been answered, but what if someone catches the ball at the peak when it turns into all potential energy? It seems you created kinetic energy by throwing it up and the catcher destroyed all that wasn't transfered to the air while moving upward.

@zodial I am just wondering the same thing. got any good answers? :)

with this theory then the big bang could never of happened as that was supposidley created out of nothing
MerkaMage 1 year ago
@MerkaMage check out Heisenberg uncertainty principle when it comes to quantum mechanics.
justinhoughtonmusic 1 year ago
@MerkaMage - The theory of the Big Bang, does not state that its occurrence was derived from nothing; but rather from a singularity when space-time, and the four known forces were compacted together. Also, because the singularity wasn’t made up of matter, and instead space-time and the four known forces of nature (gravity, electromagnetism, the strong force, and the weak force): even if it was created from nothing, it still would not disobey the first law of thermodynamics.
MarvelsofaLifetime 1 year ago
technically energy can be created or destroyed, for example, if matter interacts with the correct amount of positron or "anitimatter", it creates a huge amount of energy.

Do all scientists belive in this law???

The first law of thermodynamics is: You do not talk about thermodynamics.

MovieGuruMaker hahaha na im not retarded u genious, and i didn't figure that out by myself. What i put there was a VERY VERY VERY BRIEF explanation of how theoretical physicists could figure out about how this things work based on some kind of evidence and how they do those physically "impossible" stuff. im not a master physics or anything but i do know my stuff and those explanations seem actually very plausible in most cases.

if energy cant be created this also prooves an eternal source, we know the universe is not eternal , thus this also prooves god,
modernrocks 1 year ago
@modernrocks I don't see how this proves god... Why does there need to be an eternal source?
benalane 1 year ago
@benalane because if energy cant b destroyed or created then it can only be moved ...the universe we are in wasnt always here...
modernrocks 1 year ago
@modernrocks How can you be so sure? Were you present at the big bang? how about before it? Have you ever heard of the Big-Boing theory?
benalane 1 year ago
@benalane so sure of what? and i wasnt present at the big bang ... was there a big bang? is there any proof were they there? i know the universe is here and wasnt always, huge energy has been moved into our universe from somewhere and something....that i am sure of
modernrocks 1 year ago
... basically we cant do shit because we just have very little understanding of how UFO crafts navigate ( YES THEY USE ANTIMATTER reactors to artificially create a very intensive field of gravity, they use this gravity as a "wave" because apparently for them it behaves like one, they focus this artificially created gravity in front of the craft so decreasing the time and therefore the space between distances; no physical laws are applied to them outside the craft)
terrodar19 1 year ago
@terrodar19 BAHAHA you are retarded. How do you know how UFO's navigate. thank you for making me laugh at you trying to explain how UFO's REALLY work. lol.
MovieGuruMaker 1 year ago
haha no sir big bang is not the answer....it has something to do with UFO crafts

if you catch the ball before it reaches the same point you threw it from, where does the energy go? can't you create situations where potential energy is cut off?
