Sille; Konya'nın eski yerleşim birimlerinden biridir. Konya Selçuklu Merkez İlçeye bağlı bir yerleşimdir. Sille Osmanlı devleti zamanında Hristiyan(ağırlıklı bölümü Ermeni) ve Müslümanın beraber yaşadığı köymüş. Şu anda Sille Koruma Altındadır. Sillede pek çok eski ev, hamam, kilise cami restore edilmeye çalışıyor. Konya'ya özellikle yurt dışı tur organizatörleri ile gelen tursitler ilk önce Konya'da Mevlana ve Aladdettin tepesindensonra Sille ondan sonra Beyşehir Eşrefoğlu Camii ziyaret ederler

My father was from Sille, but I do not know any Turkish and this video is rather intriguing! What is the role of those 'sleepy' young men (and the young woman who serves them at some point)? An engagement scene, perhaps? I assume Akarturk is from the Konya region (if not Sille itself). Whose photo is she holding by the fireplace, and what is the connection with the gathering at Sille Konak?

@aktinotos hi :) akarturk apparently is from izmir. she's a famous turkish folk music singer, so she's pretending to be from sille here just for the sake of this rather kitch yet very traditional video. the lyrics say that the "the _efe_s have drunk a lot and they are drunk" and that's precisely when these sleepy young men pop up in the video. _efe_ is a turkish word for men who were strong, powerful, honorable, and generally with weapons in small ottoman villages, like _zeybek_s.

@aktinotos not sure if you've heard of the word _zeybek_ before, but that's what those young guys are supposed to be like but in sille.

as for the picture in her hand, in the entire song she sings with yearning about her mom and sille; i suppose the photo is supposed to be of her mom. my guess is that, even if it's not of her mom, it's supposed to symbolize yearning for the times past in sille. anyway, not everything makes sense in these kitch videos. :)

@aktinotos wow, apparently she says she's from izmir but a lot of people think she's actually from konya. didn't realize there was this much of a discussion about where she's from.

@ojosrojos01 Many thanks -- but why would a singer from Izmir wish to glorify Konya and even Sille in this manner ... if she actually has no roots there?

@aktinotos The deal is she sings a lot of folk songs from different regions of Turkey. Search for example for the song Develi that she sings on YouTube. It's part of the game to pretend she is actually from those regions and to dress up in the regional clothes, etc. Does it make sense?

@ojosrojos01 Actually yes, last August (2010), with a group of Greeks having family origins there.

@ojosrojos01 We enjoyed our visits and liked what we saw. The only surviving church is being renovated, and a handful of Greek homes are still there as well. The caves and the lake are beautiful. The food at the Sille Konak was good, and the locals were quite friendly. Three of us stayed longer to explore back alleys, so we took bus 64 back to Konya: the driver asked an old man to use his card for us, and we gave him 3 liras -- a bit too much, but still cheaper than taxi :-)
