A quick note i remember watching this event and yes when one of the younger gymnast on the Chinese team smiled..you could clearly see she had recently lost a tooth near the front of her mouth...something by the age of 15/16 doesn't usually occur...regardless even if they did most likely cheat...the best competed and the best won.

The cause is a common fungus that lives on the surface of practically all gym equipment, so you can't really avoid it. However, in Russia, a common remedy is to bathe the feet in a tub of vodka. The vodka is quite effective in killing the fungus that is causing your stank foot. Nastia prefers Stolichnaya.

Aside from the odor, your foot sweat makes the beam more slippery and dangerous for your teammates. You should also have some consideration for gymnasts like Alicia Sacramone who, in doing her signature pose of holding the beam while doing the splits upside down, practically puts her lips on the beam. GROSS!!!

The reason they have the age limit is because when your younger you are more flexible and can do certain dismounts better at 14 then when your 16. The age limit is to keep the younger ones from having an unfair advantage.

@emilydowner A frighteningly large percentage of individuals fail to understand how to use the words "you're" and "your." The best way to do that is to sound it out. There is a replacement test that will tell you for certain which word will fit. Read the sentence with "you are" in place of where the "your/you're" is intended. If it makes sense, then "you're" would be right. If not, then "your" would fit.

I really hope the U.S. didn't break the rules and use steroids at the games. Though, they did do it in Sydney and lied about it, only to later have 6 Olympic medals stripped away because of steroids cheating. And this wasn't even in their home country, where they felt no pressure to win. Imagine how much cheating probably went on in the Atlanta or Salt Lake City games. Regardless, Michael Phelps was absolutely amazing, I enjoyed watching him in the swimming events.

@663stellasister Most gymnasts start their careers at the age of between 3 and 6, and because of bone growth, unless you've been doing gymnastics for 14 years at least, you'll never be able to do what they do. You are just not flexible enough, because the best time to train yourself for that from 3 - 7 years of age.

An age limit is a good thing, because it takes alot of years to be good enough to compete in these competitions and you don't need someone trying to start at such young ages. Not to mention it has a huge risk/danger factor. Can you imagine if something were to go wrong and the girl hurt herself, the media would go insane and the first thing they would capitalize on is how young she is to be doing something that looks like it should be reserved for older participants.

The rule is stupid. Don't tell me a 15 year old who's probably trained her ass off 6 days a week for 12 years hasn't earned a right to compete. If you're the best, you're the best. Age shouldn't be a factor.
@fiercefunky I totally understand your point and if you are good you should be rewarded regardless of the age. However, this rule was mainly done because if the begin competing at 10 it means that they should have begun training since 2 or 3 years old. Thus, they are making kids lose their childhood. If the age is 15 some of them might begin training later and not at such an early age.
@vanya0785 I started in gymnastics when I was 3 and I would totally do the same if I had children. It's a great way to work out their hyper activity and in a culture now riddled with an epidemic of childhood obesity, maybe it's good for all children that age to either be guided into a field so physically rewarding, or shown an example of the differences between their fitness level as a, say, video gamer, and that of someone their age who plays a real sport.
@fiercefunky i think psychologically speaking, fields such as gymnastics is rather mentally demanding. both when pressure to conform to have the ideal gymnast body, for females, is so high, and especially more so when the child's parents add to the pressure by comparing them to a, say, video gamer.
It's ok, once He Kexin slips up and writes down her real age somewhere 10 years from now, the US will finally be awarded their gold medal (look up Dong Fangxiao.) Let's see - "government issued passports" - well the Chinese government can create whatever passport they want to.

@wildefice1 : Children are at an athletic advantage b/c their tendon's elasticity, which is why they're not allowed to compete until 16. If you reduce that to 12, might as well reduce it to 10 yrs or 8 years old. lol I didn't think the age was so much an issue, though it was obvious, so much as the chinese girl falling on her face twice and getting some awesome score, and the U.S. girl doing near perfect and getting a tiny score as if SHE had fallen on her face. @SeedlingsTips What made these more publicized as opposed to American cheating like steroids etc is the complicity of the countries. Now I'm sure we all know but in this case the Chinese knew, lied, covered it up etc. In theh case of the skaters though the Russian skaters had no idea and I feel just as bad for them that their officials got together with whoever and tainted their gold medal.

A quick note i remember watching this event and yes when one of the younger gymnast on the Chinese team smiled..you could clearly see she had recently lost a tooth near the front of her mouth...something by the age of 15/16 doesn't usually occur...regardless even if they did most likely cheat...the best competed and the best won.

The cause is a common fungus that lives on the surface of practically all gym equipment, so you can't really avoid it. However, in Russia, a common remedy is to bathe the feet in a tub of vodka. The vodka is quite effective in killing the fungus that is causing your stank foot. Nastia prefers Stolichnaya.

Aside from the odor, your foot sweat makes the beam more slippery and dangerous for your teammates. You should also have some consideration for gymnasts like Alicia Sacramone who, in doing her signature pose of holding the beam while doing the splits upside down, practically puts her lips on the beam. @emilydowner A frighteningly large percentage of individuals fail to understand how to use the words "you're" and "your." The best way to do that is to sound it out. There is a replacement test that will tell you for certain which word will fit. Read the sentence with "you are" in place of where the "your/you're" is intended. If it makes sense, then "you're" would be right. If not, then "your" would fit.

I really hope the U.S. didn't break the rules and use steroids at the games. Though, they did do it in Sydney and lied about it, only to later have 6 Olympic medals stripped away because of steroids cheating. And this wasn't even in their home country, where they felt no pressure to win. Imagine how much cheating probably went on in the Atlanta or Salt Lake City games. Regardless, Michael Phelps was absolutely amazing, I enjoyed watching him in the swimming events.

An age limit is a good thing, because it takes alot of years to be good enough to compete in these competitions and you don't need someone trying to start at such young ages. Not to mention it has a huge risk/danger factor. The rule is stupid. Don't tell me a 15 year old who's probably trained her ass off 6 days a week for 12 years hasn't earned a right to compete. If you're the best, you're the best. Age shouldn't be a factor.

@fiercefunky I totally understand your point and if you are good you should be rewarded regardless of the age. However, this rule was mainly done because if the begin competing at 10 it means that they should have begun training since 2 or 3 years old. Thus, they are making kids lose their childhood. If the age is 15 some of them might begin training later and not at such an early age.

@vanya0785 I started in gymnastics when I was 3 and I would totally do the same if I had children. It's a great way to work out their hyper activity and in a culture now riddled with an epidemic of childhood obesity, maybe it's good for all children that age to either be guided into a field so physically rewarding, or shown an example of the differences between their fitness level as a, say, video gamer, and that of someone their age who plays a real sport.

@fiercefunky i think psychologically speaking, fields such as gymnastics is rather mentally demanding. both when pressure to conform to have the ideal gymnast body, for females, is so high, and especially more so when the child's parents add to the pressure by comparing them to a, say, video gamer.

@wildefice1 : Children are at an athletic advantage b/c their tendon's elasticity, which is why they're not allowed to compete until 16. If you reduce that to 12, might as well reduce it to 10 yrs or 8 years old. Then we can watch more parents force their kids into being the best before they even know what the hell a competition even means.

If your bones break when you're like 12 doing this, you get pretty fucked up. However, if you're a full grown girl, which is usually about 16 or 17, it's not as bad. It's not about out doing people who older than you. There are rules for a reason.

lol I didn't think the age was so much an issue, though it was obvious, so much as the chinese girl falling on her face twice and getting some awesome score, and the U.S. girl doing near perfect and getting a tiny score as if SHE had fallen on her face. Kinda ruined the whole Olympics for me, there's no pride, beauty or honor when one cheats, or when the judges are paid off.

Now I'm sure we all know but in this case the Chinese knew, lied, covered it up etc. In theh case of the skaters though the Russian skaters had no idea and I feel just as bad for them that their officials got together with whoever and tainted their gold medal.

And I doubt the other countries would be ok with it, let alone the people in it. They do it for the honor of their abilities and to their countries, otherwise it wouldn't be a world-wide thing.
