  • You have let all your new parts down by using the old case

  • If your worried about static shock then why are on you the carpet lol

  • @ThePreludeDave Scroll down. Answered ad nauseum in other comments. I had no choice.

  • @Zaranyzerak lol alright then, good job on the build.

  • @ThePreludeDave

    very true what a douche

  • lol he likes to discharge himself xD

  • COMPAQ CASE? IDE DRIVES? ON CARPET? WTFFFFFFFFFFF

  • @RkaydGamer Fucking hell, does no one actually read comments before repeating the same bullshit over and over again? I DIDN'T HAVE A TABLE. WHY THE FUCK WOULDN'T I MAKE USE OF DRIVES I HAD THE SPACE FOR, OLD OR OTHERWISE. I HAD ONE NEW SATA DRIVE AND 3 DRIVE BAYS. OF COURSE I'M GOING TO USE WHATEVER I HAVE ONHAND FOR EXTRA STORAGE!!! AND YES, A COMPAQ CASE. I WAS ON A BUDGET. NOT BUYING A NEW CASE MEANT MORE MONEY FOR OTHER PARTS. All clear now?

  • @RkaydGamer

yea, so what? When I was building, for the most part I've done it on a table, but I did try and see how the mobo fits while the case was on the carpet (and SATA drive in the case).

I don't see why you should cry over what anyone else does with their equipment anyhow, but if you do - at least try and make a decent statement expressing yourself better than a monkey.

  • Installing/Touching your components on a carpet is really smart, especially when you arent even grounding yourself on the case or anything for that matter!

  • @impervious05 I ground myself repeatedly on the case. In fact, I made a huge, theatrical point about it. Repeatedly. I didn't HAVE anywhere else to do it, the ex took our table.

  • lol the frontire of quad core was passed about 3 years before this video, 12 cores were out by 2010

  • @ObservedFIREFLY Completely wrong. 6 core was just starting when I did this, and we only just now have 8 core processors. Hyperthreading doesn't count, that's just a clever way of faking it. Plus I was on a strict budget and this was what I could afford at the time.

  • @Zaranyzerak i point to the amd opteron and refute your pathetic claim, the codenamed magny cours 8 core was out in march that year, and price wasnt the point of my argument, the fact you were so hyped about something from ages ago was, the six core opterons were out in june 2009 so that first point you made was the only completely wrong part of this, what exactally was your budget? i can go hex core with a graphics card and 8gb ram and a 1.5tb drive for about 500 pounds

  • @ObservedFIREFLY That's nice, and they were also prohibitively expensive and NO ONE was using them at the time. Ergo, they hadn't happened yet. You should watch a multi-part series from the beginning. My budget was 500 dollars, about half of what you just stated. Also, if you had watched from the beginning you would know I was hyped because I had been using single core for the past `10 years so this was a major leap forward.

  • @ObservedFIREFLY In short, what is your problem? Not everything need to be the latest and greatest to be worth getting excited about. It was a significant upgrade from what I had been using, so yes I was excited. I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything, so I don't NEED the top of the line. Try to get some perspective, jeez.

  • @ObservedFIREFLY Oh, and by the way - the opteron is SIX core, not 8. Try actually learning about a processor before shooting your mouth off about it and making assumptions based on the name. The Bulldozer architecture (AMDs 8-core chip) only JUST became ready this year.

  • @Zaranyzerak um google opteron, shouldnt be hard on you amazing quad core, then you will see the 8 core was released in 2010

  • @ObservedFIREFLY Whatever. Who cares. No one was using them. And I certainly wouldn't have been able to afford one with the budget I had for this build.

  • @ObservedFIREFLY And that's still not the 12 core you originally claimed was out that year.

  • @Zaranyzerak sorry magny cores is both 8 core and 12 core, the magny cours codename applied to the opteron 12 core with 4 cores disabled, that was a mistake not stating there was an 8 core under that code name aswell ill admit, but even on wikipedia you can see the individual specs, it clearly shows: Magny-Cours 45 nm Mar 2010 Twelve-core, the seriousness of this argument has become a bit too much im sad to say

  • @ObservedFIREFLY Again, NOTHING of which was actually AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT ANY KIND OF REASONABLE PRICE at the time. Get over it. Great, you think it's a joke that I bought a quad core in 2010 and was excited about it. I've explained why that was so. Let's move on now.

  • No offence but using the stock Cooler was because this stock cooler is to be honest shit. Your other Cooling would have given you a performance increase

  • I destroyed my compaq computer case when i was trying to take my comp apart its sad that i cant use it anymore.

  • I cant do this!

  • eveyone shutup about a fucking table! he dont have a table ! hes a single guy who needs a table !

  • @jackzvid THANK YOU! Glad someone actually gets that. :)

  • Is using a hand glove helps to prevent the electrostatic discharge when building a computer rig?

  • Have you been playing fool on purpose ??

  • I can't see the top comments on my iPhone. I'll check tomorrow on my pc

  • @gagaruku Ah, understood. Well, in short I couldn't use a table because I didn't HAVE a table at the time. The ex took it with her.

  • Whahaha he doesn't have a table but still buys a 600$ PC! fail

  • @gagaruku How about you read the top comment below yours before shooting your mouth off...

  • @gagaruku screw the table. a decent computer is way way way more important

  • LOL I really hope you're not a computer repair tech, because I sure wouldn't want you working on mine.

    1. You didn't know a processor comes with a heatsink.

    2. You'd rather use the smaller heatsink... then the bigger, better cooling one. So enjoy the small one, hope you overheat your cpu.

    3. You're sitting on carpet WITH SOCKS, and you say you're worried about static.

  • @Skept3k I am. And in the place where I work, we use static mats obviously.

    1. I hadn't built a computer since the 90's, so no I didn't know they came with heat syncs.

    2. I'm not a gamer, I have no plans to overclock the CPU, and I'd rather have a spare onhand if I need it. now when I upgrade to a faster CPU, I already have a bigger heat sync to use with it, fresh out of the box, at no additional expense.

    3. When my ex left me, she took the table. No other flat surfaces to do it then.

  • @Skept3k Ignorant Much

  • how much did this cost?

  • @sam9165 About 600 bucks including tax and shipping.

  • He's paranoid about static charge and he's still sitting on the carpet and handling the m'board all wrong.

  • do the cpu fans have universal clips? will the right fan go with the amd board?

  • i have that white cd drive is it by SONY ?

  • may i ask what motherboard that is?

  • @ty1a2t Sure thing - It's an ASUS M4A785-M

  • @Zaranyzerak thanks, gonna continue to watch your videos untill i get my computer built

  • this is a nice change from your norm videos -dont worry i still love those- it was just cool to see your experience as you built your new comp.

  • shit!

    fucking ass hole

  • Does the heat sink need to be re-done after a long period of time?

  • @feli515 Trust me, you don't want to see the gnarly feet under those socks...

  • good video, it has lessened my anxiety about taking on this endeavor... and, uh, nice chair

  • Can you over clock with this? And I heard of there hyper threading so I'm wondering if I plug in my Graphics card but i use the mother boards built is gpu will it switch to the gtx 460 when heavy gaming comes up cause thats what it said.

  • people.. never build a pc on a carpet.. as the static electricity can harm your components.. build it on a nice wood or plastic smooth surface

  • @sexking83 @RakeyRaker already discussed to death in previous comments. Didn't have any such surface available in my home, so carpet it was. It was fine. No problems. No static. I don't live in a dry area.

  • @Zaranyzerak oh i see.. so its fine? and youve done many rigs before?

  • @sexking83 Yes, it's fine. I'm using it right now to type this. As for building rigs myself, I'm a computer repair technician. I do this kind of thing all the time. I just don't do it for MYSELF that often, so I don't own an anti-static mat and wriststrap. If you watch the rest of the videos, you'll see I was VERY careful about static.

  • @Zaranyzerak cool cool.... but specifically why did you choose the asus board?

  • @sexking83 It's a reliable brand, it had the specs I needed, and there are a lot of options for upgrading it down the line.

  • @Zaranyzerak I love my Asus board, I just need to get one with more SATA ports (it has 5). Other than that, it's great.

  • @sgtpepper1138 Yeah, next one I get will be loaded with SATA ports for sure, preferably all SATA 3 (6gb/s)

  • @zaranyzerak building a pc on carpet? seriously...?

  • Whats with the duke nukem porn music in the back?

  • @ChrisVitchev Actually, that's some of my own compositions.

  • I have the same MoBo as you go figure

  • i really want to build a new pc but the problem is that my pc is top of the line when it comes to parts

  • IDE! What are you kidding? SATA dude! We're all SATA now.

  • @awbattelle Yes, and when I can afford it I'll replace those IDE drives with high capacity SATA ones. But better I use those for the time being and get the extra 400 gigs of storage than nothing at all.

  • lol, im the same way. im constantly grounding my self.

  • the rams should be one in the blue slot and the other in the black slot!

  • @jetpack1986 I know, already addressed in other comments and fixed immediately afterward.

  • whats if you have 3 sticks??

  • @maxamillion4536 Then you use 3 slots...

  • i mean do you put 2 in the blue and 1 in black slots or 2 in the black and 1 in the blue or does it not madder?

  • @maxamillion4536 In that case it wouldn't matter.

  • uh.. don't wanna be a jerk, but can you stop your music in videos (it's hard to hear)

  • @mackenzieeful Kinda late for that now, considering these were posted over a month ago... Sounded fine at my end, I was very careful to balance the music volume with the camera audio. It's several db's lower.

  • @Zaranyzerak srry...

  • @mackenzieeful its ok

  • @Zaranyzerak srry...

  • @mackenzieeful uh.. don't want to be a jerk but i can hear everything fine

  • I think the only thing I understood was "power button".

  • yeah thats like mine buy ima getting a new graphics card :)

  • lol @ 8:21, should be careful when you pull the cpu out like that.. especially bending it sideways to take it out like you did... could bend the pins.

  • @dasharound Don't worry, I was more careful than it may have appeared at the angle I shot from. No way I was going to damage that CPU after the hell of being computerless...

  • @Zaranyzerak only question I got is how come your building it on a rug thats kinda flirting with disaster bro

  • @Zaranyzerak i stand corrected :)shouldve finished watching the video before i made a comment your very careful with static electricity even though I would still be scared to build on a rug haha.

  • is it just me or did u forget the graphics card?

  • @0TheCompMan0 No, I didn't forget anything. The graphics are integrated on the motherboard. As is the sound.

  • The music in the background reminds me of Mass Effect for whatever reason... Can't imagine why :P

  • @kingensai You're the second person who's said that...I've never played Mass Effect, and the music is one of my own compositions from over ten years ago...

  • @Zaranyzerak You've never played Mass Effect?! It's quite a hoot, I think you should give it a spin.

And if you do happen to go play that excellent game, I think you'll hear what both of us were talking about. The music Bioware chose to use for the game was very retro in style to try to mimic the old sci-fi movies.

Be careful though... Most of my friends who played Mass Effect were hooked on it for a REALLY long time. Me included.

  • @Zaranyzerak Yeah, it also reminds me of Mass Effect :) It's not like it sounds like a specific song, just the atmosphere reminds of the game. You should play it, it's amazing.

  • If you are looking for how to install a CPU and put together a computer do not use this guys videos (no offense to the uploader)

  • @SaM52461 And what exactly did I do wrong with the CPU installation? It works like a dream. I point out my mistakes and how to correct them along the way. It's a learning process as much as an assembly video. They can learn from MY mistakes.

  • @SaM52461 - It's Okay for nubies though, cause they're likely to go through the same process as Zaranyzerak did, The whole Good, Bad & The Ugly thing about building PC's.

  • @quigon87yt Exactly! It's as much about the learning process as the building of the computer itself...

  • @SaM52461 The video isn't meant to be instructional or else it would say "How to build a PC" etc...

  • NEVER Your new things on the your floor wth carpet, Yours will end up.

    I'm homebulid computer experter

  • hmm, is your case earthed? if it isnt earthen then touching it wont discharge you. Static isnt a major problem but if it does arise it makes everything bad. Touching a radiator would discharge you or touching your case when the power supply is in and plugged in (as long as its earthed) would discharge you.

  • @hord It's on the floor. How closer to the earth can it get? I've never had an issue with static when doing this kind of thing.

  • @Zaranyzerak the floor isnt earthed as it isnt conductive, touching a radiator is usually the best way. If your really worried though you can get a band which you can attach to your pc case and it will take all the static off it and place it into the band for around $5

  • @Zaranyzerak

    that's not what "earthed" means

  • Mobo looks like a Micro ATX size

That little lever is a CPU zero insertion force mount, if U force it, U broke it.

Noooooooo, Don't use the original CPU fan, smaller means more heat, trust me.

That void a warranty is crap, they just don't wan't U to put a really cheap fan on it.

Thermal paste is better then pre-applied thermal sticker, Well if U ever have to replace your CPU or fan just keep this in mind. FYI

  • The computer that died had a single core processor? Damn, you just skipped the duel-core and went straight to quad-core!

  • @Kratos87Fan19 Damn straight! No middle step for me! :D

  • Glad to see the ads back on your vids.

  • @DaveSimonH Yeah, they seem to be getting approved MUCH faster than they were, finally.

  • Pfft...ram is easy. Well, you have to RAM it in there, but it's easy.

  • "and the thermal grease has already stuck to it..."...good thing you put it on the right way! right?.............right?

  • IS EVERYTHING GROUNDED?!?! QUICK!! LET ME MAKE SURE!!

CLEAR!! *shoves you to the ground*

    OKAY, YOU'RE GROUNDED!!

  • This was a very interesting watch, I plan to do IT in uni and stuff like this seems really up my street. Just out of interest how long have you been building your own computers and where exactly did you learn how to be able to. Seems like it could be a fun little project for me when I get the time/money

  • @AK231199 I started tinkering with the innards of computers in the late 80's during my Amiga days. I learned a LOT back then, and have since just applied that basic knowledge to PC hardware. This is the first full system I've built, but I've been upgrading/fixing my own computers basically since the late 80's. I didn't like the idea of having to send my computer AWAY and have to PAY someone else to install something then WAIT for it, so I learned to do it myself to save time and money! :D

  • dude IDE are you serious!!

  • @rocko316gtr What would you rather I do, just SCRAP those 2 200 gig drives and the 400 gigs of extra storage space they provide? I'll go all SATA eventually. For now, the focus was getting a functioning computer again. And I can use all the extra storage space I can get, so it would have been stupid not to use them for something.

  • @Zaranyzerak to be fair a 1 tb drive costs about $50 on ebay and the performace of sata or even sata3 is a world better the word outdated vs cost shouldnt really matter and i know your board wouldnt support sata 3 but for an extra little money you would have quiet a good system esepically with the phenom 2 x4 i have on running to 4.0 ghz on air alone! no point upgrading the cpu and havin outdated storage

  • @rocko316gtr Of course but the problem was I was working with a VERY limited budget. I could afford ONE hard drive and the rest has to to go system parts. So I got the 1.5TB SATA drive for about 60 bucks, and the rest went to everything else. At this stage, I wouldn't buy anything lower than 1.5TB. I want to make the most of my drive bays when I upgrade 'em. Then the old IDE drives will be turned into External storage drive. For now, they're internal.

  • Remember when Microsoft wonted to charge people for each core in there PC?

Well, AMD could have send the CPU with a professional technician in a candy striped uniform to install the CPU for you... but I think that's asking a bit much.

  • Looks Good :)

I am with the rest if you ever do it again, Arctic Silver ;) you can't beat that stuff [for that price]

And happy to see that it went so easy. So next upgrade more memory ;?

  • @masticina Hehehe...I'm hearing a lot of kudos for Arctic Silver! Next upgrade will likely be another high capacity SATA drive, and relegating one of the IDE's to External USB drive status via a casing.

  • @Zaranyzerak

Ah storage the bane of all music and video lovers!

  • You should get rid of the stock AMD cooler it's crap, doesn't dissipate heat well and loud. Use the one you bought with some Arctic Silver thermalpaste.

  • @RemnantsOfBeauty Meh, I checked the temp (the BIOS lets me check up on stuff like that), and it seemed to be keeping things plenty cool enough for now. Haven't had any performance issues, and I've been putting this thing through the paces that past week! At least I've got the other cooler if I want to go more hardcore later. The stock unit seems to be fine for this CPU, though if I get something faster later on I'll likely switch to the other one.

  • The amd reference heatsinks are pretty rubbish you should have used the coolermaster it will cool much better and it will most likely be a lot quieter and it wont clog with dust as easy as the amd will

  • You really should have bought a new case with better cooling.

  • @RemnantsOfBeauty If I did that, I would have had to sacrifice one of the other components. Remember, I was working with a VERY limited budget here. A new case wasn't a priority, this one is adequate for now. Plus I checked how the cooling was doing (there's a feature in the BIOS to check that) and everything seems to fine staying cool enough for now.

  • Loving the shots of the back of your head :P

  • Loving the shots of the back of your head lol

  • putting together a new computer is one of the best feelings in the world!!! embracing the geekiness of it all :D

  • Good watch. I may actually be able to put a computer together after watching these lol

  • @evansawatsky20 Hehehe...it's actually pretty simple once you know what plugs into what. Just make sure to pay attention to what you're plugging everything into!

  • I know you discharged a lot there, but you're STILL not really supposed to do ANY computer tinkering on carpet. That and wearing socks doesn't do any good to your system. But thankfully it was fine, I always do my tinkering on a table or in the least on an old newspaper.

  • @iamnottomgreen Yeah yeah yeah, the air isn't dry enough here for static to be that big of a concern anyway. Been doing this stuff on carpets for years, have yet to zap a single component. Besides, none of my tables have any room on them and I read the news on the Internet. :P

  • Another thing about static electricity, best not to place any components on the carpet as it can have a charge depending on the material. Also not sure if this is true, but I was told many moons ago not to place components on the outside of the antistiatic bag components come in because they're designed to hold the charge on the outside.

  • ABOUT FRIGGIN' TIME!!! Gtfo 2010, hello new computer and new year!!

  • The thing I found most interesting is that your old computer was very similar to the one I replaced almost 5 years ago with a dual-core machine.

If you're wanting good bang-for-the-buck graphical power I'd have to recommend the Nvidia GTS 250 1GB model, as not only does it support physx, but also the CUDA video encoding on the card and it can be found for a very reasonable price. It also includes VGA-DVI-HDMI outputs, and only.requires a 450W PSU with 24A on the +12V and one 6-pin plug.

  • @Stinger2578 Hehehe...,.so about the time you were replacing that computer, I was just GETTING mine. :D Sounds like a pretty slick graphics card! I'm not in a big rush to get one right now, I don't do a lot of gaming on the PC - and when I do, it's older stuff anyway. Next on the upgrade list will be more high capacity SATA hard drives for all the videos I'm planning to do in the next couple of years.

  • @Zaranyzerak Well, one of the best things about computers is the price/performance over time ratio. What works great now will end up outdated later, but something better is always there to take its place and perhaps will be an even better price.

  • how much did you spend on the parts?

  • @adman1234 500 dollars total.

  • How do you like using Windows 7 on it so far. From my experience of using Windows 7 on the new laptop, I find it highly useful and convenient.

  • @bluto1992 There are some features of it that I'm really liking, plus the overall speed vs XP. Still finding my way around, though, and getting frustrated. My first thought, "Where the hell did they HIDE everything???" It'll take a while to get used to, but I'm adaptable. The positive seems to be outweighing the negative. Now if more of my fave programs had 64-bit Windows 7 compatible versions I'd be very happy indeed...

  • Enjoying the new computer?

  • @bheemabachus Very much so, yes indeedily doodily! :D

  • Can you do a video on overclocking a PC?

  • @Kytseo Not sure I'd want to take the chance of blowing up yet another PC so soon...though this motherboard actually makes overclocking super simple - you can set it right form the BIOS when you boot up!

  • In the fan install I was like "I hope he did not fuck this up....um wait a tick, if he did, I would not be viewing this video atm." LOL

  • @TheSecondEvolution Lol! Yeah, kind of a foregone conclusion that despite whatever issues you may see over the course of the videos, it all worked out in the end, eh? ;)

  • gotta love the ZIF for the processors (zero insertion force) when it comes to thermal paste i always use arctic silver, i know its expensive lol, like 15$ for a total of 5 grams of it lol. but its worth it for more effective cooling on these high power hot running AMDs. also is there a chat Friday? lol sorry for the spammage there :P

  • @smeckaldorf Yeah, I was really surprised (and delighted) by how easy it was to install the CPU. I've heard you mention Arctic Silver on a number of occasions. If I ever have nee of more hardcore cooling, I'll look into it for sure. And yes, barring unforseen cirsumcisions...erm...circumSTANCES, there will be a chat tomorrow. Had a test run on Stickam last night. Get this - Running Stickam in 16x9, CPU barely ticked over, averaging between 10-15% usage the whole time. =O

  • What are your thoughts about powering it on all from outside the case to check to see it it boots up? I have always installed everything in the case first before i boot

  • @BuckeyeSparky Probably not a bad idea, that way if there's a problem with any of the main hardware it would be easier to isolate. But I like to live on the edge. Get the whole works put together before flipping the switch for the first time. :)

  • you seem to assemble that Computer of yours like a pro. don't ya think?

  • @hemanshera777 I've been tinkering with computers since the early 90's. The technology is more advanced, but the basic principles of putting one together are still the same.

  • @Zaranyzerak oh. well....that would explain it then

  • It's scary how similar my new computer (That I'm buying tomorrow) is to yours.

I'm getting an Athlon II X4 with 4GB of Ram :P

  • @GruntyStudios Wow, that sounds...pretty much identical!

  • @Zaranyzerak And the scary thing is I was considering getting that motherboard too. Now I'm going with a Gigabyte motherboard instead with more features for less xD

  • if you didnt do one on the day you booted it then maybe its too late but i would love to see a impressions on the PC and how much better it is in comparision to ya old one , nothing to deep but just a general overview would be awesome.

i know in a previous video comment i was saying Fuck Pcs and Macs from now on but i just went to a build ya own PC Store website after this Video lol

Im not tempted right now but it was fun even if it was a Mega Expensive price i clocked up at the end

  • Whats the song in the background? im really liekin it. ^-^

  • @sharpie6shot There's two songs that kinda blend into each other - "New Beginnings" and "Timeout." Both are track from my album, "Empire Building." Glad ya like 'em! :)

  • I wonder is the motherboard is inside a Transformer?

  • Good stuff!

  • yaahhh!!!!!!!!! faster faster!!!!

  • @furynotes Hehehe...next part is already uploading. :D

  • All retail boxed processors come with a Heatsink/fan :)

  • @ascullycom Awesome, didn't know that. Do now. Still kinda glad to have a spare unit onhand just in case. ;)

  • that chair makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

  • 1st comment also it's been awesome how many videos were put out this week!

  • @gamerproable Thank the new computer, dude! Rendering is no longer a chore, more of an afterthought...lol!
