I say let Israel bomb Iran, so Iran can annihilate Israel. Saddam Hussein would have been our ally if we had not been supporting Israel so strongly; he said so 30 years ago. We are not the rulers of Israel if they want to commit suicide we should let them. Who are we to stop them?? Also, Russia has leadership that we should start learning from, and Europe should no longer het it's oil from the middle east, but only from Russia so they may gain an economy that surpasses that of the Imperialist US

didn't see these responses. but yea, iraq and afghan unraveling combined with crude oil rises is the reason the belligerent bush administration held Israel back (and obama is putting so much effort into diplomacy). But if a traditional ground war did happen it would be the end of the current iranian govt 100%.

even with the strain that the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have put on the US military, there is not doubt that a direct confrontation with Iran would be a slaughter; Just like Iraq in 2003 (remember that Iraq and Iran fought to a bloody stalemate after 8 years of war). Now, what would come next, in the post war period, is the REAL question. The answer of course is that it would be a mess

in a ground war, iran makes its own weapons and tanks/radars/electronics/ etc irans budget is more then enough to take on us.

As i already said direct confrontation is being avoided for the reasons Brzezinski is articulating here (unraveling of afghan/iraq, crippling rise in oil prices, hezbo/hamas attacks in israel). BUT if it actually came to this worse case scenario where Iran has blockaded the persian gulf and bombed saudi oil facilities, the US economy could not tolerate that and would be forced into a conventional war with Iran.

Again, i point you to the Iraq/Iran war that ravaged both countries for 8 years. Now consider how the US military plowed right through that same Iraqi military in 2003 as though it were a weekend exercise. A very similar thing would happen in conven war with Iran. Of course, the post war scenario in iran would probably be much worse than post 03 iraq, but none the less, it would be the end of amedinajad and Khomeini. Of course this is all hypothetical

I doubt everyone would disarm if the major powers disarmed. That would bring us back 100 years. How would weaker states retaliate to military action? Nuclear weapons work as an excellent deterrent as they did in Pakistan and India.
