The host of the special, Mellody Hobson, made it clear that this was meant to be general advice for people on personal finance. While it's not too detailed, the point is Hobson made the special to point out that most people are not given the basic financial advice they need to make wise investment and credit decisions. She argues that high schools should offer classes teaching people the basics of personal finance.
I mean, no one ever told ME a house payment should be 1/3 or less my income.
as a mexican american i see the liberal media constantly talking down to minority's. So lets have a show deticated to making fiscal respnsability "Hip". how is one NOT to be some what offended. if this show were trying to sell this message to White-middle class america, they would have had analysts, not rich pop culture icons rely the message. think about it.
The MTV demographic includes ppl from many different backgrounds. That being said, their main demographic are white suburban teenagers...I kid you not. Watching one of their shows with a live studio audience should illustrate this quite well.
I say that to say this: If they want to reach White-Middle class America (as well as minorities), this is exactly what they need to do. For the average 18-25 yo at least. Analysts and the like are better suited for finance fans and those of the 30+ crowd.
I thought this was hilarious. The financial advice is solid and if you already knew all the information, you could just enjoy the humor. I'm glad these celebrities took some of their star power to try and combat the ridiculous "standard of living" that most people in America are wiling to have a negative net worth to "own."
It didn't seem that way for me. Everyone appears on cribs, and it just seemed like a spoof of cribs. Anyways, only wiggers use that old 90s played out slang he did....so i'm sure it was geared towards wiggers and wannabes
I think it's for anyone who's influenced by mainstream hip hop culture, which is big on status symbols and materialism ("Cribs" is a perfect example). Most likely, a majority of the young adults (of all races) that this show was aimed at listen to hip hop more than other styles of music, so it's appropriate.
Sorry but I didnt need a bunch of rich celebrities tell me how to live my life. As a matter of fact Id like to see if any of these people actually follow their own advice. I'd rather listen to someone like Dave Ramsey.
Ummm.........this is funny to me, but then again, I have never had a house foreclosed on. I am sure all of those MILLIONS of people don't find any of this nonsense funny. Besides, are we really supposed to believe that Seth Green, a MULTIMILLIONAIRE, lives in such a SMALL house??? Was this written for 10 year olds or adults????
clearly this written to combat the ideal that people have that they need a BIG house.
that home they showed really is a normal size home that an average person maybe able to afford to buy. But due to unrealistic images of homes people get from the media they think that is a SMALL house.
If I was a bachelor, I would not mind living in that house. From what I can see, it looks pretty modest and decent. The backyard is also a pretty good size for BBQ's and parties, what more could a guy ask? HOLLA.
Is that really his house or is he just acting so he can relate to the rest of the people?
