  • Just wanted to add the dumbest question on youtube.......WHATS THE NAME OF THE SONG????

  • System Shock games and the name belonged to both EA and now defunct Looking Glass, which means EA can neither sell the old games nor make a new one. Very unfortunate.

  • Does this have true vertical aiming? I always thought Duke 3D was the first to do that.

  • There is something called System Shock Portable, it works from things like UBS-sticks and uses the DOSBox. AFAIK you don't have to configure anything, just unzip the files and play. But you better read the manual first of course^^ There is even a hack included that allows you to mouse-look like in modern FPS, I think this wasn't possible in the original SS and you had to turn around/ look up and down with the keyboard. Whatever, just google for 'strangebedfellows' or 'ttlg' for more information.

  • this game was tough as a kid lol

  • what does it mean in the config when you choose your level of cyberspace and plot?

  • GOG needs to get this game and the 1st. I mean fuck, the Doom series, Duke Nukem and even Blood have been re-released and transferred to different systems all the time. Why not the System Shock series dammit!

  • one of the best games ever!

  • Just bought some fruit.. wonder if i can play this on a orange?!

  • @BlueBlazeful2

No, you can't, to state the obvious.

This game(At least, the CD version) uses SVGA Graphics, wich means you need at least a microwave to run it. Well no, more like, DOSBox, but still, you get the point.

  • I love classic 90s games. Sadly this is one I missed growing up, will have to give it a try sometime. Heck I still play Master of Orion 2 though, lol.

  • lmao What's funny is that this used to be today's Crysis, demanding, fun, and everybody wanted to test it on their PC.

  • were you just beating up dusty bin with a lead pipe?

  • zomg liek teh graphiks in this gaem suck.Black ops is so much better.I'm 12.

  • Actually looks REALLY good for a 94 game.

  • If i had dollar for every pixel in this game... I would have 1 dollar

  • @DuckOnQwak HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • Remember back in the day you use to look at a game like this when it first came out and all you can think is "Wow, look at those amazing graphics!" this will forever remain a classic for that.

  • Very, very good game. The plot, the arcade... Specially the plot, one really feels inside the thing. And it really tested the mind if you played with all plot elements and highest puzzle difficulty. The kind of thing that plain shooter games NEVER manage.

  • bioshock is based on this :D

  • Even though System Shock and Bioshock are sister titles and made by the same folks, Bioshock is by far the more superior title. system shock had a great plot but it was very rough around the edges. Bioshock is the wiser, smarter, better looking of the two.

Bioshocks steam punk qualities keep the fans coming back for more. System shock was futuristic and that's all.

  • @Kerunou In case you didn't realize Bioshock was released more than a decade later,

  • System Shock aint got shit on Bioshock

  • yes of course the graphics are dated but the gameplay was really revolutionary for its time and had a great story to boot. This is one of my favorite games right next to say wolf3d and doom

  • @CutingDoom

    Funny joke.

  • i wonder what bioshock was like with this kind of graphics :D

  • I can play this on my potatoe.

  • apperently this is the spiritual succesor of bioshock.

  • Even with graphics aside get real guys, this game stinks.

  • @Knuxsega

A thousand times better than Bioshock.

  • Wow this game looks amazing! I kinda wish there were games like this now adays. Instead of games that only use them for marketing.

  • One of the best games ever - still unbeaten in its genre, even by System Shock 2, which was itself a damn good game. CRPG have been getting far too oversimplified these days. This game proves you can still have "action" without having to sacrifice on lots of choices and options, and a good inventory :)

  • 0:16 IT IS BALANCED FOR LEAN!!!

  • hopefully mw3 graphics are like this !

  • Anyone else think this pooped Bioshock

  • @667Atlas Bioshock aint got shit on System Shock.

  • 2:08 The elevators were frozen today!

  • they dont make games as good as the ones back in the 90's

i still play this game once in a while :D

  • Can you make a video of all the weapons in System Shock 2 & 1?

  • there are only about 3 today games that are good. i enjoyed bioshock, its good, mass effect 2 is one of the greatest shooters ever in my opinion. And last but not least an original xbox game, oddworld: strangers wrath. the best freakin xbox game ive ever played.

  • @yoshie257 What about the elder scrolls? that series has been around a long time and is amazing regardless what year it comes out.

  • @RoninAvenger

There is a big gap between the earlier elder scrolls games and the newer ones.

  • @MirageBistro Regardless they are all good

  • @RoninAvenger

Sounds like blind fanboyism with no substance to me.

  • @MirageBistro No, sounds like someone who enjoys the elder scrolls and believes they are a very well made series.

  • @RoninAvenger

Doesn't that make you a fanboy?

  • @MirageBistro

I'm fairly certain that means he has an opinion. Gasp, a person who's opinion you disagree with! I also don't see you backing up your personal attacks with "substance" either.

  • @samsafisher

HERP DERP. Why would this guy even bother playing rpgs, I wonder. It's like playing a racing game and bitching about how you have to arrive in first place to get the trophies. HERP DERP.

  • @samsafisher

My mistake...I meant to say, wipe that brown off your nose, boy!

  • @MirageBistro Im a fan of the series yeah, but I don't run around with shirts of it and making everything in life about it like halo fanboys.

Its just a game series i enjoy more than any other

  • @RoninAvenger sorry for the late reply, never got around to playing the elder scrolls. I will have to play it sometime.

  • @yoshie257 yeah the late 90s was the golden era for pc and videogames. now its just about shallow gameplay and the big bucks...with a few exceptions of course.

  • can system shock 1 and 2 be played on windows 7 ?

  • @Arcadia117 System Shock 2 can no problem, I don't know about system shock 1. It probably can with tweaking but the game hasn't aged well at all. You don't need to play SS1, I would just play system shock 2 which is a better game anyway.

  • system shock 1 and 2 are awesome, they need to redo these games with just better graphics and such.

Keep the same story, weapons and everything it had, just improve.

  • You could probably get it running on my droid, it runs fallout :P

  • @MrGadjetable So then lend me your droid so I can play it...

  • @CTAT98 No offence but your a pussy.

  • I am sure the ds could handle this. I used to run this game on a 133mhz pc back in the day.

  • When the world gives you a jeffrey, stroke the furry walls

  • I was first introduced to this game through a comparison of retro FPSs. It seemed that this game alongside Marathon had an actual plot as well as innovation.

This game I find was as a good as Bungie's Marathon. Also, it was also advanced at its time (the game even looks good too!) I really need to play this game. Time to get DOSbox!

  • Thats it, crack that hoover with your pipe!

They sure don't make games like this no more.

  • this is the predisesor of bioshock ???

  • @HeyLookItsAdam

Probably more so System Shock 2, but yes. I never had the patience for System Shock myself, but I thought System Shock 2 was awesome, more so than Bioshock.

  • @TheMrfunnybone System shock 2 - Bioshock Teenager

  • @hornedreaper7 Bioshock 2 - Bioshock Middleaged man

  • @SoApBoX Bioshock 2 demo - Bioshock middleaged midget

  • @hornedreaper7 Deus Ex - Bioshock's cousin (felt like replying to this 6 months later for no reason)

  • So Bioshock was inspired by this?

  • @TheRetroZombie

Yep, well this franchise anyway, the sequel System Shock 2 released in 1999 has a very similar storyline and gameplay just replace "abandoned underwater steampunk city" with "abandoned cyberpunk spaceship".

  • bioshock ftw!

  • I had the CD for this ages ago but lost it. I still have the case but the pain of misplacing the CD still haunts me :(.

  • TRIVIA ALERT! - the code for the door being 451 is actually a reference to the classic sci fi novel "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbary. The first code used in system shock 2 is also 451, as well as the first code in both Bioshock games.

  • @oars44

    And in Deus Ex.

  • The movement in this game s-u-c-k-e-d. Otherwise a game for people with brains.

  • h ttp://gillen.cream.org/wordpress_html/?page_id=1103

  • Honestly is it even worth getting, or should I just stick with System Shock 2?

  • @7thNCtrooper2

Honestly, just stick with System Shock 2, this game is too dated by todays standards that it will feel frustrating if you don't have nostalgia to back it up. It was a great game for it's time, but it hasn't aged well. System Shock 2 however despite being 11 years old is still a great FPS-RPG and well worth playing for anyone.

  • how and where do i get this game! i really want to play it!

  • @Colton5 its called google....type in the name of the game and the word "download" you'll findit eventually, or even on the pirate bay they might have this somewhere, you just have to check...i plan on DL'ing it myself to try and play it on the wii....way too many Emulators on that system O_O

  • Sounds like Dune music. Kinda.

  • lol i wonder if i can get this to run on my 386 lol

  • They should remake this as a Facebook app, since, you know, they're able to do Quake 3 Java. :)

  • you do know that there are also source ports of system shock that make it run smoother without needing dosbox.

  • Comment removed

  • @Airdross it was

  • Comment removed

  • @Airdross it was the predecessor to system shock 2

  • @Airdross

    You fail.

  • Dude what are you talking about needing a decent PC. I could probably get this running on my microwave.

  • @iMerkzZx2k It's not really that simple, most old games like this require some sort of DOS emulator like DOSBox to run, and they're heavier than it sounds. You actually need a pretty decent system to get DOSBox running smoothly.

  • @felipefrango Fascinating.

  • @iMerkzZx2k

Point in fact. It would probably be EASIER to get this running on a microwave than a new good computer.

  • @CrysResan DOSBox?

  • @CrysResan ... it runs great under windows xp just by installing vdmsound i can play it on my amd phenom2 x4

  • @CrysResan

With DOSBox, anything is possible! ;D

  • @CrysResan

Actually, no, it takes 5-10 minutes to get it running on DosBox, at least, the CD version.

Now System Shock 2, thats where it gets hard....

  • @iMerkzZx2k

my microwave didn't have an interface and sufficient input (and it fried the disk when i tried to install it)

  • @iMerkzZx2k You need a good PC for this on dosBOX since dosBOX runs the emulation shitty as hell, seriously people lag on this with like 3 year old computers...

  • @yzbi Some people really can't understand an obvious joke...

  • @iMerkzZx2k Of course I got that the microwave part was a joke, I was just enlighting you and other people that you really do need a newer cpu for this to run well on dosbox...

  • @yzbi I already knew that but whatever you might've "enlightened" somebody.

  • @iMerkzZx2k You are awesome! lol

  • @EvaAdorable Thanks, you too! :)

  • @iMerkzZx2k or you can just hit ctrl+f12 repeatedly to increase the cpu cycles for dosbox

  • @ChexGuy331 Cool.

  • @iMerkzZx2k

this comment made my day lmao

  • @iMerkzZx2k Bad optimization, it can get to the best of computers.

  • @CTAT98 PSP all the way

  • @GenTristan

Yeah psp needs more good games so yeah, psp.

  • tsk tsk so naïve. look past the freaking graphics to the atmosphere! you feel genuinely alone! more so in SS2

  • This is Developed by Irrational Games alright.

  • awsome game, it's like Doom, which is also awsome XD

  • epic soundtrack

  • Is there any way to change the controlls?

  • @residentevilrulesall Oh sorry they are remaking System Shock 1 using the System Shock 2 engine. I believe there is a trailer of it on here called: CCP: Welcome back to Citadel Station

  • @residentevilrulesall

it's called the Citadel Conversion Project. Look it up.

  • This is the only video I find of System Shock 1, albeit a demo, that plays the OPL3 music properly...

I play using SSP, and Medical Suite is missing a pitch bend effect that happens on the lead synth to the intro section of the music, and to the lead guitar of the action part. But in this video the effects are intact.

  • no fuckin way that this is 1994 game :)

  • @CTAT98 thats the best fucking idea ever!

  • Check out the "System Shock 3 - Ascendance" trailer on my profile. :)

  • I wish this had a better mouse aiming setup :( I'm forced to use keyboard keys for looking up and down. Otherwise, this game is awesome.

  • im getting system shock 2 :) it looks awesome, just like bioshock. hope its not muc hcreepier though xD

  • I wish there was more games like this. I mean more about survival and less about shooting.

  • Wow buddy *facepalm* they were made by the same company.

  • i refuse to read that bioshock copied this game...really? are people going to compare a game in space to a game 100 phathoms under the sea? just because the character here swings a pipe and in bioshock you swing a wrench doesn't make it a copy...for goodness sake bioshock was inspired by a book by Ayn Rand...was this game too?

  • Bioshock copied System Shock 2, not this game.

And "copied" is a bit inaccurate, since it was made by many of the same staff. BioShock imported a lot of the game design concepts from System Shock 2 (the name itself not being the least of its similarities). You use a wrench as a melee weapon in SS2, you use upgrade stations and acquired resources to tool up your guy with special powers, etc. If you ever play SS2 you'll see the similarities to BioShock immediately.

  • bioshock and system shock have this same producer

  • it looks abit like bioshock

  • Thats why its the first in the "shock" series

  • @dakarus calm down dont cry about it

  • LoL, you beat up trashcans and imp rejects....im disappointing

  • That's a great idea.

  • @thebenchwarmer

Just do some reaserch/reading online on what would be a suitable rig for your needs/wants. You don't need to be technical for that. Just see what people recomment, pro/cons of different systems etc.

  • wow.. i wish i were a technical person with computers.. or at least knew somebody to help me.. i would be enjoying a lot of cheaper games than consoles and better graphics.. Not to mention mods..i love mods.... sigh..

  • One of the best games ever in the genre... sigh

  • haha looks awesome

  • when was this released?>

  • March 26, 1994

  • LOL name DosBox ^^

  • The music is really catchy!

I also have to add that I'm impressed that they actually added actual voice clips to the game. Didn't see that too often in games from 1994.

  • I want this re-released already. Its been far too long since I've played this game.

  • this should be ported to the DS

  • I second that.

  • Graphics AND gameplay were state-of-the-art at the time. The game was a complex one, not really good for some weekend 10-minutes-a-day average gamer, unlike nowadays games: playable by people from 3-93 years old.

And the soundtrack was very cool and inspiring back then. It was in the era of Doom and Dark forces, for comparison. Extraordinary game. thanks for the video!!!!!

  • man this would have seemed very different in tone without the ultra cheese music

  • wasnt this like the first bioshock

  • For 1994, this looks and plays (a little complicated, but) amazing.

  • I agree. Very deep game.

  • Well it was released in 1994

  • Well it was made in 1994, so you can't complain.

  • This game is the spiritual precedeeder of BioShock, and looks awesome. Isn't this the first ever truly 3-D game?

  • Yes indeed.

It was capable of creating a real 3d bridge.

Meaning that you could walk below a surface that wasn't a part of the level roof but had its own top and downside , free floating in the level.

A basic thing the Doom engine or any other engine was not able to render at that time.

Id Software first achieved this with the Quake 1 engine two years after the release of System Shock. ;-)

  • It was also the first game with a working physics engine !

  • Wow. Looking Glass was really ahead of it's time.

  • system shock 2 kicks this one's ass

  • of course... the style of the first one kinda pissed me off... hated those days but ahh thats why we have geniuses.

  • i like old games :)

  • This game, I believe, belongs the the golden age of gaming. It should sit up there next to the original Dungeon Master. Just don't see games with the same kind of engrossing/haunting feeling anymore. Kudos to the vid!

  • I got a veru fuzzy feeling, playing this 6 hours straight while ago with my new 24" monitor. Cant be too healthy. Soundtrack in fist level is neat!

Anyone know is there any grapics mod for this?

  • Bioshock is a mix of Atlas Shrugged, System shock, and pure amazingness

  • when you mean stupid modern games, do you mean games like bioshock too???

  • stupid modern games.

  • @HardWarUK Agree. The today games are just marketing operations.

  • @netwalker72 u are too full of shit they are better graphics options and gameplay marketing HAS always been apart of business now go kill yourself fag hell system shock was marketed asshat

  • @deltapunk21 Fuck yourself, damn cocksucker, never than NOW, the video games industry stink badly of money. The originality goes away trough the shitty ass of your mom, and was replaced by shiny products, strictly made to blind fags like you.

  • @netwalker72

    I agree.

  • @deltapunk21 Good graphics come and go. True innovation of is a rare thing these days.

  • @HardWarUK Well i'm sorry if you just play wii

    ;D

  • @reberto I only play sophisticated PC games (which means I play mostly pre 2003 PC titles!). Because recent PC titles have been dumbed down tremendously since the gaming market went 'multiformat' and the vast majority of PC titles have become console conversions. For PC only check out King Arthur the Roleplaying Wargame and/or Space Rangers 2 and see challenging original gameplay that you won't find on console!

  • Comment removed

  • I played this after Doom. Was fun. funfunfufn..

Depth. Descent was 'new' stuff too.

But Doom beats them all. With only it's soundtrack!

  • and system shock 2 beats them Doom :P

  • yup

  • i never played this (i'm working on playing through the sequel for the first time...love that game.) but it looks just like doom graphics-wise. that was a fun game.

I definately need to play this. I'll take a good old school game over a great next gen game any day. (i remember playing sim city 1 lmao)

  • The sad thing is, everyone was too busy playing Doom II than this. :[

Which is a shame, seeing how System Shock is an awesome gaming experience.
