actually you were right up until the last part..

it goes from this order: DMC3, DMC1, DMC2 and DMC4

the reason for that being is that Trish did not appear til the first DMC and then follow it up with the second one.. Lady was introduced in DMC 3 which was the prequel and DMC 4 is where you see both Trish and Lady. the order is all screwed up but it fits when you look back on the story line if you put them in the order i gave. (i did it your way and it made no sense btw.)

They fought in a bloody and blinded battle for the blade but in the end, Vergil lose. Instead of going back, he decided to stay even with Dante's concern and Dante return to the living world.

The whole game is set on a tower that allows travel to hell and is about opening the portal and getting Sparda.

I think the reason vergil fails is because he uses too much burst power and tires himself out too fast, that's what I noticed when fighting him. while dante conserves and spreads his energy around, even though he goofs off a bit. Both dante and vergil would have failed in demon world though because they need their fathers true form to suceed.
