Agreed. I was raised by southern baptists. I went along with it, mainly to please my parents. It only made me have more questions and feel more guilt. I actually felt guilty for not feeling this connection to "god." Thankfully they raised me to be smart enough to make decisions for myself, so I looked for my own answers. This song is extraordinary. The lyrical content, the synth composing, all put together wonderfully. Trent is a creative genius. This is art. As for the censoring, I think censoring is always stupid. Slang is a part of our culture as much as anything else. The notion that "Fuck", or "Asshole" are bad words is based on silly, outdated religious morals that shouldn't rule a democracy. So as an adult of 34 years of age, I say no censoring of art. The expressions in the song shouldn't be ommited.

And while I totally know where you're coming from with your comment on things going to shit, you really shouldn't generalize by labeling atheists as "twisted and sick," there are just as many sick and twisted religious folk as non-religious folk. I worded that first comment poorly - I don't want to dismiss religion as not having any impact, I just wanted to say that one can still have good morals without the guidance of religion. It's just a different path, one of many. There are so many things that factor into who we really are, that it's both impossible and unfair to point at any one thing and say, "This is what makes someone a good/bad person."

It's not solipsism. It's existentiism. The realisation that there is someone else, but that your relationship with them is driven completely by your own needs and desires, which in this case are to hurt himself. Hence, he entered a relationship fuelled solely by his desire to be hurt, and the romantic ideals that were formed were all part of that hurting mechanism and not in any sense shared and real. Solipsism would be more self-determined.
