I use various x58 boards. RAMPAGE III, EVGA Classified, MSI Big Bang. After owning it for 18monts or so. The Big bang xpower is my favourite after owning them all for quite a while. Its just so well put together and so reliable even with some brutal experimentation. I have a machine with 2 x 6990s in here at the moment and its fantastic. The best all round motherboard I ever owned so far. One of the oldest components I still use.

@LaV0lpe New technology may come out that fast, but games tend to take a Lot longer time to take advantage of the technology you currently own. I'm still using a $1000 gaming pc that I bought and built back in 2008 and I have no problem playing games on it.

@slimmworker yeah..you can use any combation of the numbered pci e slots .Basically you could smack 2 galaxy gtx 580's ( im talking the Accelero xtreme plus hsf edition like mine 3 slotter that is) in sli if you had a sli bridge long enough. cheers

@beastusa running 8x makes no difference with pci-e 2.0 or 2.1 you loose only 5-10% performance. Also this board includes the neccessary bridges to run 3 way sli.

You're only a sucker if you're buying what you don't need. I buy enough power to play the games I like at a reasonable FPS. Certainly buying the very top of the line has a huge premium in price, so yeah you're getting screwed there. I go midrange and buy from auctions when it's feasible.

but, do u have usb1.0 on your pc? do u have any usb1.0 devices? 99% of ppl dont have or use usb1.0 anymore simply because usb2.0 is so much faster.

so probably usb2.0 and usb3.0 will both be present on a lot of new motherboards. and when external SSD's become cheaper, usb3.0 will become even more useful at my opinion.

@HTBLuVA also correct, but i mentioned the ssd drives as an example, since they are already present in the market. probably we will have in the future 20-30 mpixel cameras equiped with usb3.0 so u wont need a couple of hours to transfer photo files to your pc. the same will happen with other gadgets

anyway, its evolving, it will probably take a bit longer since usb3.0 is not fully compatible with older ones, but eventually i guess it will become as standard format

@dglenn247 You can put pci express x1 (the small set of pins you probally saw) into a pci express 16x slot (the slot you probally saw), but you cant put pci into pci express or pci express into pci or pci express 16x into a pci express 1x slot.

@doomtomb3 I believe it has to do with Intel and its x58 scheme.

The x58 does not natively support USB3.0 or Sata 3. These boards coming out with USB3.0 and Sata 3 are using 3rd party implementations. I think intel is not going to support sata 3 and USB 3.0 until 2011.
