I'm ashamed to admit this, but it actually looks hot in a yellow paint job. For so long I felt as if it were a crime against nature to paint over the raw stainless steel bodywork that is unmistakably a DeLorean...guess it goes to show that we mustn't be too narrow-minded

This Yellow Delorean has been very popular among other D owners and the public in general. It always draws the biggest crowd at a DeLorean car show... as do most of the painted D's. Dont get me wrong, I love the stainless look, my other DeLorean is a Concours winning car. So, bottom line, if JZD could think outside the box and enjoyed my car, everyone should try looking beyond the box and have fun with it... after all, it is just a car.

The factory was working on colored D's before they had to shut down. It was just a matter of time. Some of the first dealers had to paint the cars to help move them. Some people didnt want a car that looked just like every one off the production line. Why yellow??? This is the Millennium Yellow used on the 2000 Corvette. I think the D carries the color as well as the Vette. But to each his own.... pick your color or none....

Its been some time since I checked out the old YouTube videos I made. Its real obvious that some people cant think outside the box. Your trapped in a world of cookie cutter production cars. I met John DeLorean in 2000 and I realized that what made him great is he thought outside the box. We wouldnt have muscle cars today if he hadnt decided to hot rod a plain ole Pontiac into a GTO. He really got a kick out of the Yellow D. It was one thing he didnt get to finish before the factory closed.

Painting a Delorean is just wrong. I don't mind it when other modifications are done to Deloreans like engine transplants or something, but the body and the doors are what make a Delorean special. It is the same as taking a nice original 50's car and turning it into a street rod. Sure I would like a street rod better than an original, but I should do it with something other than a car that looks good the way it is.

DMC-12s don't really look quite so good when you think about it in bare metal. The front and real "caps" don't match the body. I would paint a New DMC-12 silver or medium gray metallic just so it all matches, This yellow one looks nice. It's not over done and actually makes me think of the old Lotus Esprit, old design but thoughtfully updated.

my personal choice would be to keep it stainless steel.

It's the kinda car I would drive ifi was a millionaire playboy. I'd tune the engine to the max of course. Get that acceleration down from 0-60 in 10 secs to 0-60 in 4.

Stainless can be painted and @Tyglerhomes: It's stainless steel, not titanium plus Mr. John Z. Delorean NEVER said, that there will be only plain stainless ones.

For the next generation he actually planned painted ones too...So it's not even against his philosphy.

And for the non-believers: Yes, it's a real Delorean. With an even-fire V6 instead of the standard odd-fire.

most cars are made from low carbon steel also known as mild steel, if most modern car body panels were made from stainless steel they wouldn't rust and to paint stainless steel you need some sort of acid toner I already talked to the person who posted this video

also fyi, alot of modern primers contain a self etch, some people do use metal conditioners but it is becoming common to spray a self etch over bare metal.

In the 80s it was futuristic to have stainless steel body. It was actually 5 times more expensive to make. The idea was to reshape panels after bumps and brush the scratches out again.
