This dance is known as 'Sawagi'. These ladies are for the district of Shinbashi. The Oshaku-san's (Hangyoku/Maiko) name is Kimijiro. And the Geisha is Kokimi.
They are so much faster, eccentric and looser with their movements compares to Kyoto Geisha, it's really interesting. Does anyone happen to know the name of the song; I rather like it haha.
hehe, There was nothing as appealing as a geisha and her apprentice (hangyoko) nowadays I understand why geisha performances still are examples of what prostitutes actually had to accomplish before being exchanged for money for their services....heheh, Nowadays, Modern? Please....
@DrowElfMorwen they probably thinking they are not real ((when yes I know they are)) cause of the obis. Maikos usually have longer obis so that's probably why some peeps are thinking they are not real. They don't realize that in some ceremonies the kimonos and obis may be different from what normally wear.. Just like at odoris some maikos have short obis like geikos for the performances((specially if they wear same style) where only way you could tell which was geiko or maiko was the hairstyle.
Well this was a "demo", a one time only thing, for people to know what geishas do, actually one of them gave me something like a "presentation card" he he, after the performance we had the opportunity to ask them questions. I also could see some in Kyoto and well, they have great artistic skills :)
1. A geisha can play and sing her own song. she wouldnt need normal women to play. Their meaning is artistic person. they can do everything and anything from dance to the mastery of conversation.
@ephrayimlevi Eh the women playing the shamisen do often sing too and she is also a geisha (from Tokyo like the hangyoku (geisha apprentice in Tokyo) and its a geisha form Tokyo who dance)
Older geisha/geiko wear less eleborate kimonos and make up then a younger geisha. they stop wearing the white make up at the age off 30, thats also when they change into a kimono for elder women.
they arent real geisha fyi. Ive been and anything where its a restaurant saying its a real geisha performance is a tourist trap. A geisha wouldnt be caught dead working such lowly work.
oh thats right there are tokyo geisha but they are not as i don't know what the word is they don't get ass dresed up and wear as many more beatiful kimono and stuff but i sitl love them

The geiko is new ^_^
I can tell that because she is wearing a formal kimono with her okiya crests on it. But I'm not able to see what okiya it is o_O
Ichimomo101 2 years ago
I don't think so at all. I'm pretty sure she's probably wearing it due to the party's formality. Not her newness to the profession.
