The 747-400 with those huge Pratt&Whitney engines are a marvel to watch from the perfect window seat. Do you remember your seat assignment? Nice work-
@Techno04335 Yes, unfortunately so. :( They might be gone by the end of this year. SIN-NRT-LAX will become an A380 from March, which leaves only SIN-FRA-JFK as the sole B747-400 flight, with occasional services to Melbourne and such.
14 people missed the like button. I should try Singapore Airlines, i didn't know they are so courteous and informative, 'Welcome to Singapore ladies and gentlements, for Singaporeans and Singapore resident, welcome back home. Outr local time is 10 minutes past 7 in the morning and (can't hear date) and the temperature is 25 degree Celsius and (something) farenheit....and on and on." wow.
@Cptjonmiller That kind of cabin professionalism vanished from the United States airline industry about two decades ago, when air travel became cheaper and more and more commoditized. With it came overworked and surly flight attendants going toe to toe with rude and unkempt passengers who treat flying as an entitlement, now that they’ve paid so very little for it. Flying on SIA is still largely a gracious and comfortable travel experience, even in coach. In the US, it’s a grim endurance test.
@EasternMerchant ohh and you forgot boeing also builds way more then airbus( I don't mean planes I mean stuff like satilites, missles, bombs, military vehicles, rockets, space shuttle.) soooo yeah.
@yoyoyoyoshua First of all, EADS, of which Airbus is a subsidiary, also builds things like satellites, missels, bombs, military stuff and so on :)
Second, Boeing has absolutely nothing to do with the Space Shuttle. Just because Rockwell, the company that built the shuttles, is now a part of Boeing does not mean Boeing made the shuttles.
I have never heard of any product in this world which has never been known to fail or break down or wear out. We still have not achieved perfection in any machine.
Ultra-high humidity ... you can see they must have had pretty good rainfall just previous from the spray kicked up when the engines go to reverse thrust ...
your lucky to get on an SIA's 747. i think i've only ever been on it once, out of the 5-6 times or so I've travelled with them. i always keep getting the 777's ! Damn, lol.
but to watch a plane land ... is watching one of mankind's greatest feats.
You would be the first person to complain about getting on a 777, which has far better seats than the 747s that are leaving the fleet till march for a good reason (uneconomical, hence not comfortable anymore).
meh, the feeling on a 747 just feels better... also, the seating arrangement of 2-5-2 (or 3-5-3, i think?) means my whole family can get the middle seats ... haha..
quality didnt suck, yeah wasnt as good as this one. BUT still pretty decent. you captured the noises of an aircraft in the lading/taxi process pretty good
The wet conditions really make you appreciate the air brakes! At 3:36, after the thrust reversers had been deployed, you see the air and moisture being propelled forward. Amazing! I previously thought the brake produced by the engines is much more passive than that.
It looks like it is very hot and humid their, I know now that I will not go there! anyone ever heard of turboprops? if so let me know! just adding to the confusion!!!!!!!!
i think you might be confusing the spoilers with the flaps. The flaps are what are used to gain lift during low speed conditions and are also used during takeoff as well as landing (to increase drag). The spoilers however just cause air to flow over the wing which forces the plane to stay on the ground during landing.
Not exactly. Spoilers actually "spoil" the airflow over the wing which then decreases lift, which would help keep the aircraft from going airborne again.
After moving to this part of the world and presently residing in Singapore, I have really taken to going places by SIA whenever possible. It is a great airline.
youngplainjuan, no I dont understand fly-by-wire, and neither do you. Otherwise you would have told me what fly-by-wire is, and not posted a useless comment thats of no use to either me or other users here. Actually you're both wrong. It has nothing to do with electronic devices "emitting" anything.
You're supposed to stow them during critical phases of flight (takeoff and landing) so they don't become projectiles in the event of a crash or hard emergency landing.
Of my 34 years of flying, no airline comes close let alone match the genuine and attentive service both on the ground and in the air. Singapore Airlines is an amazing airline. They are the best in the industry
Yup. The air in that case has a lot of moisture already. As the air flows over the curved shape of the wing, the pressure drops enough that and lifts it into the air. That pressure drop also cools the air a lot. When the air cools below the dewpoint temp, it condenses into a cloud over the wing!
Singapore Airlines excels in what it does. Its standards remain one of the highest and most exacting in the industry and it is emulated, feared and despised probably in equal measure by its many competitors. Coming up trumps has become something of a habit for the airline, and little wonder. I can imagine that for many traveling executives where flying is more work hazard than genuine pleasure, booking a Singapore Airlines flight means at very least - knowing what to expect.
Can one ever go wrong choosing Singapore Airlines? Even a non-fan hoping to find fault will admit the task is a difficult one. The consistency with which service is dispensed, the quality of the offerings, and the seemingly perfect down to her symmetrical smile Singapore girl are some of the reasons why so many travelers choose to fly nothing else but Singapore Airlines
Ok..this is probably one the Australian Sectors SQ's rite....well..good descend....flying tru Batam and the Indonesian riau islands...and finally descending towards Changi or East Coast area of Singapore(can't be certain of this!).....smooth landing.....Singapore Airlines...gotta love it!!
Because on ascend, air can escape your ear via the eustachian tube to equalise the pressure, but on descend air is more difficult to enter the eustachian tube, and is forced into by swallowing, yawning, moving jaws or valsalva maneuver. So it 'pops'.
Singapore Airlines is a great airline. Singapore itself is a great country as well. They take crime and prosecution very seriously. In 2002 Van Nguyen was caught with heroin and sentenced to death in March. He was executed in December! So take it seriously when you hear "There will be severe penalty for the carriage of drugs and weapons into Singapore". Singapore can be a beautiful country and it can be a Great place to send criminals too ;)
