Why has Alex Mercer become 'evil' now? At the end of the first game he was pretty adamant to stop the virus from spreading :/ Apparently it was explained in a comic...but I haven't read it...

Even though alex is the virus and lost all his memories I think he can live a normal life leaving his powers domaint and never use them unless needed.
Let's get down to the real Reason, from some comments i read. True that mercer dropped the vial and spread the virus but the people who started to invest in this Project of Gentek are the real people to blame who created this virus in the first place, Alex Released Greene because he thought she has the answer it was a setback and a mistake but he did not know it was a mistake, I mean any human or non-human makes mistakes.

I have a feeling Blackwatch was the cause for Heller's wife and daughter's death and put the blame on Mercer. Mercer, somehow knowing about this, infects Heller so he could live on and find out the truth because he knew Heller wouldn't believe him. This would explain why Mercer didn't kill or consume Heller when he had the chance while Heller was still uninfected. If this were the case, I would so love the ending parts of the game be Mercer and Heller fighting side by side. But that's just me.

They wanted to kill Alex BECAUSE he was one of the one's that worked on the virus. He's the one that created Blacklight in the first place. General Randall wanted to stop the infection as soon as possible without destroying the city, because unlike Alex, Randall wanted to save as many lives as possible, and recapture Greene if possible. That's why he kept ordering them to use methods that wouldn't wipe out the entire city.

Why is it so hard for the whiners to accept that Mercer is the cause of all this and now his virus counterpart is making things worse. Also with this new character approach, the devs don't have to come up with a BS way for Mercer to lose most of his powers at the beginning of the game.
Exactly. I've never liked when character lose their powers in the sequel. For certain characters, it makes sense. Megaman is a robot, so just removing the parts he used to gain strength is simple. In LoZ, you (almost) always play as a different Link. So he wouldn't have all of the abilities and items the previous Links have obtained. But Mercer's powers are biological, and can't just be stripped away on a side-note just to balance the game-play.

Umm...No. The final boss was The Supreme Hunter. The government had nothing to do with him. He was created when Alex tried to kill Greene by injecting her with The Cure.
Why would they ever band together? Heller hates Alex with a burning passion. The closest they could get to 'banding together' for more than 30 seconds would be Heller not turning Alex into a puddle of blood and setting him on fire.

@Demolition990 Actually Alex let the infection loose in the world. When Alex died the infection technically revived him and feed off his remaining memories. So he himself came to reason he's nothing more then the virus itself. All in all the Normal Non-Infected Alex is the reason for the spread of the infection.
hmm.. virus vs virus sounds relly fun. all the other bosses in the original prototype were way too weak, and they weren't as fun. heller fighting alex would be the most fun part of the game. looking forward to this battle scene ^^

I am looking forward to this, a lot, I admit. The trailer is chilling.
But being a fan of Alex does make me go..."meh" a bit.
But, two theories as to why Alex goes evil in the first place:
1. Evoultion of the virus.
2. Dana dies, leaving Alex alone in the world. <--- hope they explain Dana in this, it was a massive plot hole.

hmm.. virus vs virus sounds relly fun. all the other bosses in the original prototype were way too weak, and they weren't as fun. heller fighting alex would be the most fun part of the game. looking forward to this battle scene ^^
