I dont know Suzanne I think that those plot details you described in the Pain strikes Underdog episode should be interpreted in a more allegorical sense. Like the sword being hidden in the cape represents underdog hiding his homosexualy from himself and everyone else and the sword poking him from behind representing gay sex. The doctors looking for the source of pain and finally finding it representing the lesson that it is unhealthy to hide in the closet and healthy to come out of the closet.
I don't think Underdog is meant to be overthinked and taken seriously, anthropomorphic dogs with super powers could never be real.
Batman is a more believable character thanks to Christopher Nolan's rendition, Bruce Wayne uses realistic military gear and equipment instead of fantasy super powers.
The harsh comments are kind of astonishing to me
