Thanks for the note. I have since retired as a physics teacher and I left the video with the Department. It took most of my budget "in the day" to buy it, but it was worth every penny.
I used this movie for many years a Physics Class final exam at the high school level. I was able to track down and purchase a VHS tape from the producer of this film. It should be viewed by all ....
@flh1942 Hello! It just so happens that you have found the producer of this film again- we are! If you would like a DVD of Radium City, please contact us at 603-585-3057. Yours Truly, Carole Langer (producer/director) and Luke Sacher (Cinematographer).
Great News- YouTube has just invited us to partner with them- we will be uploading the complete film today- it will be available for free viewing here- with commercials- by Sunday at the latest! Tell your friends!
Hello~ I am close to Ottawa IL and have been involved with the City of Ottawa and Laborers Local 393. We are PROUD to announce a Memorial site we are in the process of building to HONOR of these young Radium Victims. Please, would love to speak to anyone with more information , Like whitetrashpeg, or any others and would love for you to attend the Unveiling of a statue on Sept, 2' 11 in Ottawa at the original site where these young women worked. Thank you so Much for honoring these Victims
@Hppygolckee You are most welcome! We are the producers of Radium City. We're sorry that we could not attend the dedication of the statue. If you would like a DVD of Radium City, digitally remastered from the original 1 inch broadcast master, with redesigned graphics, or if you would simply like to speak to us, please contact us at 603-585-3057. Yours Truly, Carole Langer (producer/director) and Luke Sacher (Cinematographer).
People in Lasalle county have been searching for scarce copies of this for years. I saw a LOT of cancer in my years as a nurse at Ottawa's hospital, and took care of one of the last living Radium Girls. Thanks for this documentary - I saw a bootleg VHS years ago and it has haunted me ever since. Bravo!
@WhiteTrashPeg Thank you SO MUCH! We greatly appreciate your praise! Please go to our new YouTube channel, praesesproductions, and click on the same clip- the more clicks we get, the sooner YouTube will offer us a pay per download partnership, which will bring the cost down to a few dollars!
I saw this film on PBS many years ago . The girls were so hot from the radiation poisoning all that was needed was the xray film to be wrapped around them in order for it to develop.
@jeffrey19621 We are the producers of Radium City. We're sorry that we could not attend the dedication of the statue. Thanks sincerely for the kind thoughts- we can't understand why we haven't yet heard from Netflix- it might be any day now! We are currently negotiating institutional licensing for public screenings- and inclusion to course curricula- at colleges and universities, as well as at museums. It's definitely playing soon at Brigham Young University in Provo UT and The American Clock Museum in Bristol CT.
Oh my gosh! Finally released! Please do whatever you can to lower the price or let it be rented/streamed through Netflix. Why in the world was it not available to the general public before now? I saw this back in 1986 or 1987 on Cinemax and have never forgotten it. I hope to be able to see the entire film again.
@Alix1929 Thank you! You are most kind- it was a labor of love. As soon as we complete institutional sales- to libraries et alia- we will make it available for less. All the best things to you and yours.
Glad to see this documentary available on DVD. I would advise you to add it to the "Literature and Film" list on the Wikipedia page, as well as a link to Youtube.
My great grandmother worked for Radium Dial in Ottawa, so this is of interest to me...Also years ago I saw a Black and White documentary on Radium Dial. Have you seen this? I don't remember what it was called. There was information on some of the women who were still living at the time it was filmed and all the secret research that Argonne was doing on them.
Well it's about fucking TIME, you guys...what took so long? I've been trying to find a copy for years and up til now, it's been near impossible to even find any information about the film itself much less an actual video copy...how come? Oh, hell....who gives a toss about what the reason was...it's finally out now and I'll be getting my copy ASAP ( $75.00 though? A bit steep dollar wise doncha think?).......
@Loshia2002 We're sorry about the cost- until we build enough demand to order 1000 copies at a time, we just can't make them for any less- the film is 105 minutes and has to be put on two discs. Add the box and the printing, and it gets expensive in small runs. We sincerely appreciate your interest and enthusiasm!
@soapbxprod I understand, believe me. Isn't there a way to somehow post the dvd on Amazon or sell it as a digital file thru the aformentioned site or others that specialize in documentaries? I know they're out there cos I'm a bit of a doc junkie and obviously renting it or selling it as a download would not only cut down on the costs for you guys, it would make it more accessible to schlubs like yours truly to see it. As said, it's a great film and I'm glad to finally see it re-released.
We're doing everything possible to make Radium City available for less- we have just started. It takes time to get it on NETFLIX or iTunes, as well as subscriber demand. Please tell everyone you know to put it on their request list!
@Loshia2002 Forgot to mention- you probably know already- that our most recent doc feature, "The Dogs of New York" (71 min.), is available on Amazon for $9.99- the trailer and an 8 minute sample are posted here on YouTube. It's been accepted by NETFLIX for distribution- but not until enough requests are made for it by subscribers. We're aiming to distribute Radium City the same way.
Owning this DVD completed my quest that began in 1987. It's such an important film! My mother told be about the Radium Dial Painters when I was four. Their stories have always been a part of my world. Thank you, soapbxprod.
Incredible- there was also a Radium Dial Company building on Queens Boulevard, about halfway between Manhattan and Flushing Meadow Park. Don't know when that site was finally decontaminated...
I have been looking for this film in DVD form for a couple of years. I just shared the story with two women at work today. The subject came up when the town of Ottawa IL was mentioned. In browsing the Internet I found that the super fund clean up of Radium Corp in Orange, NJ was just completed in 2009!!!
