  • Classic white mans blues.

  • If you don't want to smell my smoke, don't monkey with my gun!

  • I was 6 years old when Jimmie died, I remember Jimmie and my mother would play his records often. Wonderful memories.

  • @ATSF1927 Wow what a great memory this must be for you.

  • This is my fourth cousin , first cousin to my great grand dad , Jessie Otto Rodgers or Rogers. He latter took the D out of the last name . I have to say that I'm proud of my country music ancestry and one day, be able to be the next's singer in the family tree . I dont know when that mite be, whenever the opportunity happens I guess.Well I'm a big lover of this song . I'm glad to see that others like it as well!!!

  • I hate modern country music so much. How did we get from Jimmie Rodgers and Cliff Carlisle to the crap that they play on the radio now?

  • @stammlager5 Depends what you are listening to. But I have to agree nothing like this anymore.

  • This is a masterpiece.

  • This is about his dick!

  • Gun's don't kill people...Apes with guns kill people.

  • AWESOME!!!.

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore!

  • This is my rifle and this is my gun, this is for war and this is for fun!

  • this is the good stuff. wish it was like this today, instead we got KICKS 106 feeding all the tees out here toby keith and brad paisley and taylor swift. the real shit today is hank 3, bob wayne, lucky tubb!!!!

  • I lived in Meridian Mississippi all my life! The Jimmie Rogers Festival has been going on all week Ive been every day

  • Holy Cow! I think some people aren't clueing in to the meaning of this song...

  • @jeanhaliburtonwills : exactly. They don't have a clue.

  • he 's talking about his gun not his weapon

  • man he's OG like literally

  • I don't pack no pistol, but I sure do love to ramble. Great tune!

  • @fngrpkn06 Probably when you learn to punctuate a sentence correctly, eh what???

  • The original gangster music

  • @whitedeviltx

Exactly! gangster music better remember it's true roots!

  • YEE-HA. I can't yodel, but I can do a pretty good YEE-HA, thank you very much.

  • he was a little bit drunk when he sang it.

  • This guy is insane.a great metafore.

  • Serious OG

  • @quentinqep : Would not have been Country Music ; Until the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers ; Hank Sr was just an original copy catt ; Love all eairly Country Music I really really do ! But Jimmie was the Father of it all !

  • Hes not talking about GUNS...hes talking about sex.

Pistol in meaning his "manhood'...you know? This guy is a great musician but he has a few kinda slightly dirty songs lol

but hes a great guy :)

I wish country music was good like it was back then. Its really changed alot for the worse :( the old stuff was the very best.

  • @LovelyGypsyEyes Such truer words have not been posted on the internet.

  • Country at its best.

Jimmie Rodgers is one of the best singers ever.

    Love his music.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • This is one of my favorites and a good reflection of the true JR. he holds the record for the most people shot per song. The smallest weapon of choice he used was a 44 but usually a 45--often one in each hand.. He was a hard drinking hard fighting and hard smoking woman chaser and hell raiser--that had to change his image later. T for Texas had to be stopped from playing in bars it was so violent--anybody in it --got shot...IT sold one million and of course was the one that put him on the map..

  • What does he mean, he comes from a shootin' race! Is he like me? I love to clean and play with my guns? I'm ready to bust some dark ass!

  • Jimmie Rogers is an O.G. Alot of the stuff I always thought was modern rap slang turns out to be old Southern or just old general American slang. Gat, and hold up men which people say Stick-up kids nowadays but that's from that. Also, I just learned the whole putting an iz in the middle of words like saying "wizords" instead of words turns out to be an old Carney thing they would do as code to hustle "Marks" (another word I mistakenly thought was new).

  • he aint talking about no gun.

  • @asparwhite86 ....theys guns and then theys guns...

  • cool,

  • Respond to this video... I always enjoy the looks i get when i ride around town with Jimmie Rodgers' music blasting on my sterio. These kids boomin what they call "hip hop" look seriously worried and confused when i pull next to em with Pistol Packin Papa at max volume with the windows down. ahahahaha!

  • The original gangsta rap!

  • @Dulcimerist lol

  • bueno

  • This song is not about guns...

  • Well, I reckon I belong to the "race" he's talkin' about! I like my guns, and when needed, I can break 'em out!

  • Damn Brother...

This Post 'Shore has Generated a lot of Feedback...it Seems Like this is ALWAYS Gonna Be a "Hot Button" issue. I am, as an 'Ol Long-Haired Hillbilly Country Boy, a Staunch Supporter of 2nd Amendment Rights...a Gun is Only as Safe as the Person's Whose Hands it's in, that's Just a Fact of Business Hoss! But, I Feel Like this here...I think that 'Ol Jimme was Singing about BOTH His Weapon AND His "Wang" in this Great 'Ol Song!!!

    Michael,

    "The Alaskan Hillbilly"

  • Hey Chris...

Great 'Ol School "Hillbilly" Music from a Legend Who Goes Back Before Even 'Ol Luke the Drifter! A Great Song Hoss, Thanks fer Postin' it.

    Michael,

    "The Alaskan Hillbilly"

P.S. "Gun Control, is Being Able to Hit Yer Target"

  • i just shot the guy

his dying was between him and god

  • @RoilNoise R.L Burnside by any chance?

  • Oh really, "An armed society is a polite one"- that is a Robert Heinlein quote. Did you know Robert Heinlein also said "NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF HUMAN STUPIDITY." We have to take guns out of the hands of everyone, too many crazies out there who have no value for human life.

  • @KevSutemi8 crazies don't need guns

  • @KevSutemi8 Kev... Do you think that a crazy person with no regard for human life will NOT kill somebody just because he doesn't have a gun? Guns are the great equalizers. A person with a gun could stop a crazy from stabbing him to death. All using a gun does for a crazy is make his job a bit easier and cleaner, but also easier for the cops to track him.

  • @KevSutemi8 Give your head a shake and wake up idiot...

  • Had to listen to see why Bonnie Parker had all his records....I can't really see it, but it was such a different time, and different strokes for different folks, I guess.

  • This song isn't about the right to bare arms it's about Sex!!! It's got a double meaning. As in he's talking about (As Areosmith put it) his Big 10 inch, He's shooting from the hip. He's squeezing his lemon till the juice runs down his leg (Led Zeppelin) He's Jake the Peg with the extra leg (Rolf Harris) In short to sum up He's boasting that he's got a big John Thomas.

  • This was probably the Barrow Gang theme song! I can almost see them sitting around cleaning their guns listening to this song, or driving down the road with it on the radio?!

  • @RobobinAnne Jimmie was Bonnie Parker's favorite singer. She had all his records.

  • When are you rubes going to learn how to spell!

  • i'm sensing a double entendre

  • so good.

  • @jmurr06 I CAUGHT TUBURCULOSIS LISTENING TO A JIMMY RODGERS LP

  • coolest jimmie song ive heard yet. DAMN.

  • Fucking hardcore.

  • guns dont kill people .... bullets do.. and fists and sharp sticks and ciggerettes...

an armed society is a polite one

  • aman brother.

  • Ciggerettes might only kill you if you smoke them. Otherwise there just dried leaves in paper.

  • @tOOballs VERY WELL PUT. "An armed society is a polite one". I will remember that saying.

  • @tOOballs but the guns make it easyer, melt all guns down. problem solved !

  • Then they all will use knives... but you don't need knives so melt all them too!!!

  • @TheHelgeland well i do ofcourse realise that if people wanna kill eachother they do it bare handed or with knives +++ the thing with firearms is ONE PULL OF THE TRIGGER, and its over its so FINAL it cant be un done, can ofcourse say the same about knives, but still i rather get stabbed the shot

  • @TheHelgeland You'd rather get stabbed than shot? ur an idiot.

  • @swajsofa

It doesn't make much difference, really. Dead's dead.

  • @TheHelgeland

Yeah sure thing idiot, the criminal will certainly turn them in!

  • @tOOballs gun control means using both hands! lol

  • @tOOballs True, but I get the feeling that the kind of gun he's singing about is the sort that INCREASES the population, if you get my drift! :-D

  • @tOOballs

Watch it with that common sense! We have liberals present!

  • @tOOballs And shit stinking ragheads too backward to build their own airplanes, so they have to kill us with ours! Let's show them what the word "terror" really means! Thank you, Dr. Oppenheimer! The day WILL come!

    Norm

  • @theshadow1932 Leave your trashy politics out of such a great song.

  • @tOOballs Which is why people watch what they say in those places where people are armed heavily, like texas or oakland, ca

  • open carry

  • Yep, I come from a "shootin race' too! You betta respect!

  • its a great song to me

  • i ramble where i please

  • Comment removed

  • Great Song!!!

    Jimmie invented Gangsterrap

  • "if you don't want to smell my smoke, don't monkey with my gun"

    priceless

  • This is Jimmie Rogers! the first one...listened to him while growing up in the 70's. he was a great communicator and friend of the Carter family.

  • It's not "Jimmy Rogers" (blues musician).

It's "Jimmie Rodgers" (earlier "singing brakeman" -prob. 1st country music superstar).

  • I think he's talking about basketball.

  • haha

  • Ubelievable there are so many naive people out there who can't see the obvious sexual connotations in this song. These risque tunes were prominent back in those days. Gov Jimmie Davis, an early imitator, had more than afew of that genre, As did Bob Wills. Listen to his "Oozlin Daddy Blues".

  • Oh my goodness: I haven't heard such obvious double entendre from that era since Robert Johnson's "squeeze my lemon till the juice runs down my leg."

  • Jimmie Rodgers fans, there's an internet radio station playing Cash's music, along with other classic greats. It's on the pirate radio network, under country music. Good music.

  • this could be considered the precursor to gangsta rap

  • praise the lord and pass the ammunition. Confederatly,Johnnyreb[Alabama]

  • This has nothing to do at all with the south...it's an old western song...great vid 5/5

  • God Guns and guts made America free, lets keep all three....

  • EXCELLENT post.

    BK

  • I DON'T FEAR SHIT! I've got guns, and I know how to use them! You can guess my race!

  • Stupid Must be a race then.

  • your both a couple of fucktard dickcheese'z.......go eat glass and die.....

  • Haha, it's hilarious how fixated on race are racists.

While I watch this video, I think of the singer, the lyrics, their histories and my own experiences as related to it.

Someone else can watch any video at all and think of nothing but DAMN NIGGARS.

    You're vastly limiting yourself.

  • Good observation.

  • That is due to a sick mind. also a lack of education.

  • learn to spell cracker you're an embarrassment

  • i love old country

  • Sound quality is great!

  • If a school kid wrote it, I doubt it had to do with sexual innuendos. It's just a great song. Take the words as they are written, don't try to read something into them.

  • A school kid did not write this song. It was written by a professional song writer, musician and poet from Texas, by the name of Waldo Lafayette O'Neal. He wrote several songs for Rodgers, one was "Hobo Bill's Last Ride", can't think of the others at the moment.

  • jimmie knows

  • He didn't steal this one from anybody. He bought the lyrics from some schoolkid in Texas who sent the song in a letter. Jimmie came up with the tune to match it.

Although Jimmie enjoyed his Second Admendment rights, this one isn't about guns, it's a bunch of sexual euphemisms strung together. Let's just say the pistol he packs, he was born with, OK?

  • WOOOO!!!

  • tha best country I ever hurd... OOoooboy!JIIAAAhhh!!

  • He was great!

  • "but you can never take from me my silver mounted gat"

  • hear is a real gangsta O.G

  • Jimmie was very, very influenced by "black" music. Maggie Jones described herself on record as a "butcher" who killed her man "because he was too smart," and recorded tunes called "Four Flushing Papa" and "I'm A Back Bitin' Mama," and had Louis Armstrong playing on her records in almost exactly the same style he would later use with Jimmie -- all that before Jimmie made his first record.

  • @etahasgard1986 just watchem dance dumbass and then make your Arianian claims

  • Actually Maggie Jones, aka Faye Barnes, developed the so-called "black" sound from listening to an itinerant white jackleg preacher named Howlin WhiteBoy sing and play...... SInce blacks are unable to come up with any original music by themselves, its obvious that she copied her very small repertoire straight from Howlin WhiteBoy.... Behind every so-called black musician-- you will always find a white guy who created teh sound and never got any credit. truly sad

  • Hi etahasgard1986, I didn't claim Jimmie stole, or it was wrong for him to be influenced, or he was unable to do whatever. Regarding the idea that Jimmie made gangsta music: what was basically the equivalent of gangsta rap for that time did influence him, a lot. I find blends of "black" genius with "white" genius fun and unthreatening. So did Jimmie. Did you know that Jimmie was the first "white" country musician ever to have three different "black" guys play on three different sessions of his?

  • There is no evidence that he was "influenced " by a very obscure second level black jazz singer who recorded a few songs in New York City ... then disappeared a few years later... never to be heard from again. No you are a racist, with an agenda-- to claim any white musician was " very , very influenced by " some, any black person he may have met or heard for 30 seconds. Now you claim-- with no evidence-- that Rodgers was influenced by black "gangsta rap" !

  • Where is the evidence of "black genius" here that you are blending with Jimmy-- ZERO. ZIP NADA... but you are, by definition, diluting Jimmy's accomplishment. Thats your agenda-- to give "blacks" credit and diminish any white musician's achievement. The "blues" really was taught to illiterate blacks by their masters.... what was thought to have been created by blacks actually came from their masters.

  • @etahasgard1986 sounds like you are the one with an agenda

    examine your premise

    get educated

  • Wow... talk about a bizarre set of comments! That was totally disjointed and incoherent. I can only conclude that the 'inbred' remark really hit home with you. You think that criticizing racism is the same as hating America? Like I said... wow!

  • I'm 54 years old, nitwit. I was able to witness first hand the Civil Rights movement come to fruition. I've also witnessed far too many ignorant, uneducated people grasping at straws to explain their own failures and dead end lives, and try and blame it all on African Americans. People like you are so easily manipulated by Rush and his ilk. You're just waiting for another Hitler to come along so you can goose-step into humanities next disaster. LEARN FROM HISTORY! Its your only real chance.

  • What the hell are you angry about! Yes, your ancestors ( I'm assuming you're Black) you're ancestors paid a price for becoming citizens, but mine did too! The Germanic tribes of Northern Europe were slaves to the Roman Empire! We paid our price and are the better for it! I will not bow down to you because your people were slaves! Mine were too! We have a Black President....get off your damn high horse and join us plain folk down below! I don't owe you shit!

  • Nope. Not even close. I'm a white man. Have been my whole life. My family is white too. What I'm not is some raging, racist ignoramus who who feels the need to deny the humanity of other ethniceties in order to prop up my own flagging sense of self.

I just appreciate what African Americans have contributed to our culture. I've been enriched by it, and, whether you know it or not, so have you.

These right wing nihilistic zealots will only bring us all down by dividing us with false distinctions

  • I appreciate what Black Americans have contributed to our nation as well. I just feel that if we are to prosper as a nation, we need to just be "Americans," not hyphenated Americans.

  • just another liberal idiot ...grasping at straws

  • I agree You must learn from history, but your view seems to be distorted by the media you choose. Save the political garbage for a political post. shut up and enjoy the music!

  • you ignorant liberal minion...another hitler HAS come along...barack HUSSEIN obama...what blind little sheep you are ...one day u MIGHT realize Rush and his "ilk" are right..i doubt it though since you liberals are not capable or independent thought ...your liberal media gods think for you and tell you how to think and you obey without question or insight ..you and your ILK are truly the most uneducated STUPID people in the history of this greatest nation

  • wow..why do you have 7 thumbs up ? Rush and his ilk? let me tell you something u ignorant dumbass...rush stands for all of us True Americans ..puttaforknit is 100% correct ..liberals like you are bent on dividing the country on racial lines and u may have won a temporary SMALL victory with your cheating(early voting) black non american born president..but soon the truth will come out and there will be such backlash as youve never seen...enjoy your moment liberals...its soon to end

  • Now let's divide the rants from the facts:

SMALL victory ? '..and they have spoken clearly.'John McCain.

Cheating ? The law allows early voting.

non american born ? Hawai is in the US.

Soon to end ? That's speculation of course. Simple demografics however show that the days of white male sore losers are over, never to return again. Thank God.

  • Maybe is better a white sionist georg bush as president....IoI Please...why you can't see...Obama is the same thing followin the same masterplan...he came in the best moment, when USA have the black gold control in the area...when all the world was against G.W.Bush....ohhh I have an idea..lets get a black democratic president...who retires the troops and all that...well is easy when you don't need the troops no more in afganistan.

The only good america was before "the war between the states"

  • I agree with you, my friend! The best America was before the war between the states! Now what the fuck do we do? I reckon we need to go back to the drawing board! I'm from New York, and I see that the old Southerners were right!

  • Screw both parties.Screw the media, scrap the whole smoking mess,we needs SECESSIONS!Lot and LOTS of secession.

    I don't want a federal or state "education" and I sure as f*ck don't want Walmart...I want a canoe and a frontier mother f*ckers!

  • great stuff, takes me back to the 30s when i used to take my Tommy Gun to school and kill all my classmates, wow, those were the days.

  • I have finally found the FOUNDER of GANGSTA RAP

  • "I have finally found the FOUNDER of GANGSTA RAP"

Um..thi isn't (c)rap music this is old school Country/Folk. Alot of the old Folk/Country/Blues(it was really all the same thing way back when the distinction began later) would have lyrics talking about being hustlers and playboys, robbing a bank or shooting somebody or something like that, etc...It wasn't just Rodgers.

  • "Alot of the old Folk/Country/Blues(it was really all the same thing way back when the distinction began later)"

No, the distinction between blues and non-blues was already around at this time.

  • This pro-gun music was responsible for so much violence back then, just like today! Remember all those school shootings in the '30s? When some kid would take a Tommygun to school, mow down his classmates, then the cops would search his bedroom and find Jimmie Rodgers phonographs everywhere?

  • HA! Well played.

  • Bullshit u dont know anything of what u talk about...so dont talk

  • It should read, don't write. Think about it.

  • Another great one from the master of country music a real gem..

  • He was sure good. thanks

  • This is just fantastic. My great-grandmother loved this man and I can see why.

  • I have not heard this one in a long time - takes me back a long , long trail. Superb - aint anybody did it like JR.
