What people don't realize is that the usa is over 3 million sq miles, and for the average speed to be around 10mbps for 300+ million spread out people, and having the fastest city for internet in the world (berkeley, ca) is pretty fucking impressive...

@soaffb1337 Your cities are not more spread.I worked in this field.If you deployed fiber 15 years ago you're fucked, you must replace it.Like Japan, they will not stay top for long except with high costs.If you deployed 8 years ago, it will work up to 100Gbs/s same fiber that was intended for 1Gb/s.Like in Korea and north and east europe.US and West europe are not even around for the count of internet speed, you have same problem, not the spread.

@halofannatic well i have fiber optic 20gb in saudi arabia its not a big deal !!! the technology is out since 2007

and 100mb is avaliable here 133 us dollar a month pluss free telephone calls

and the 20gb is 66 us dollar a month plus free telephone calls

i have seen more than dozen of people have 100mb and in korea they reach over 2gb and i heard thres 10gb maybe its not true but i'm sure that they reach 2gb

@Verification11 you don't have 20gb, that is the traffic not speed.You have 10/100/1000 mbps ethernet connected to optic hub, like me.The ideea is in Romania i pay 12 euros for 100mbps like this one, whole pakage with TV and TEL is under 40 euro or 50 euro with HBO and mpeg4 HD decoder.We're poor, we're stupid but we know how to get a deal.Internet here is a good deal, only problem, speed with USA is around 7Mbps and awful with Asia, but Europe and Romania is a blast, 40-60Mbps

@Olengher PS, about 7 yr ago people started to make 'neighbouhood' networks to avoid to pay for slow and pricey cable.They would gather more people , form a network and buy a fiber directly from 'importer' bypassing corporate provider.The corporations reacted by dropping aerial cable system and switch to burrow optic fiber.They now try to outlaw aerial cables, cos it's too easy to deploy by unprofessional and works very well on small scale.This is how we got fast/cheap internet.

@Verification11 no, i have T3, in fact a shared minigbic, so we all get a 100mbps T3.This is done like the wire goes into a switch box near my house, inside the box there is a fiber with gbic or minigbic.Nobody has 'fiber' in home.The fiber stays outside in a box, inside goes LAN cable.FTTH refer to fact you have one fiber only for yourself, not shared, witch is good only for gigabit internet.In many coutnries you get suckered with 100mbps FTTH, you actually pay to deploy their fiber.

TMy school has faster internet (TRIPLE OPTIC). I measurd once 164 Mbit/s! (usually it's around 150 Mbit/s) Unfortunately, they don't really like programs like GrabIt or uTorrent :(
