i dont think jiujitsu should become an olympic sport , because then , they would change it , and keep altering and playing with the rules until they make it "not dangerous" and then it wouldn't be as effective as it is now ..... just like what happened with Judo
@TheDeathTriangle sport bjj is already "not dangerous"... so many rules, it's actually a very unrealistic version of the original, and what Helio Gracie feared would happen to gjj happened. it became sport. I do agree however, that becoming an olympic sport ruined judo and tkd, and would further ruin bjj.
@yeojannekcmful wat would u know about fighting? bjj is one of the hardest grappling sports in the world and ur saying its retarded? well ur a idiot who knows nothing about grappling and fighting
@TheDeathTriangle HAHAHAHAHA said TheDeathTriangle and got stomped to death when he tried to do a butterfly guard on the street. Sorry man, don't be delusional. BJJ is dead ineffective in an UNCOTROLLED environment. Sure it's good when the other guy can't hit you in certain areas (back of the head, groin), cant kick you when you are on the ground and there is a nice comfy mat but in a real fight I'll take a good old cross & uppercut over having to go to the ground with the other guy any day.
@DestroyerAlexandros You obviously dont know shit! I can scrap and i do jiu jitsu and its only made me a better fighter. I guess if you dont know shit about street fighting and just do jiu jitsu you MIGHT be somewhat obsolite but other than that bjj just gives you the ability to get on top of someone and fuck them up or if they take you down you still have a chance to win. GO TO SCHOOL BITCH!! IDE HIP THROW YUR FACE INTO THE CONCRETEEE!!!!!!!
@DrDeeAye Oh yeah it's better than nothing. But that's saying like everybody has a chance against UFC champ Jon Jones. Of course, everybody has a punchers chance. Of course knowing jiu jitsu is better than not. Is jiu jitsu the best single art to master for self defense? No. It's a toss up between boxing and combat sambo. Has jiu jitsu been battle tested for centuries like these two? No. And obviously you're hiding some serious insecurities threatening me over the internet like that, are you 10?
@DestroyerAlexandros Jiu Jitsu is jiu jitsu and fighting is fighting. If no one can understand that, then they are retarded. Roger gracie just got K.O'd by King Mo. Roger Gracie would destroy King Mo in a Jiu JItsu match, but a fight is very different. There is no "Best." martial art. You have to know a bit of everything and how to use it. What good is a gun if u can't pull the trigger? What good is a rear naked choked if u don't know how to take a fight to the ground.
@MmaNcovers Yes you're right. But MMA is not fighting. It's a sport in a controlled environment. IMO it's always beneficial to know a lot of techniques in case you get in a real fight, but it's much easier to learn one thing to use for protection. IMO that's dirty boxing. Like striking with some dirty elements like small joint manipulation, head buts, shots to the back of the head, shots to the groin, etc. It's the easiest way to get out of a fight quickly and GTFO of there.
@DestroyerAlexandros agreed..There are many cases in MMA fights where wrestlers spend too much time pressing their opponent against the cage while leaving the back of their neck open for elbows. But STill gotta learn a bit of everything... People say things like.. Oh BJJ is the most effective in a street fight. It's effective in a one on one situation, when your opponent has no weapons, and your opponent has no idea about wrestling.
@DestroyerAlexandros and one more thing Dirty boxing is good, but if your attacker knows how to wrestle it might not be good to clinch with him. If there is a fighting system that incorporates strikes, grappling, and clinch fighting with no rules, then i'd go for that. But we live in a world where multiple martial arts are available, so why not take advantage of that.
@MmaNcovers Well yeah but think about it this way - when Feijao fought that wrestling gold medalist in the last Strikeforce he defended all takedown attempts and whenever the Cuban guy went for a takedown Feijao's corner told him "make him uncomfortable". So yeah, it's not a good idea to clinch with a guy who does greco roman wrestling but it's a sport and they do it without hitting each other. You think they can do what they do while getting hit in the head? Roger Gracie couldn't.
@MmaNcovers Well yeah but think about it this way - when Feijao fought that wrestling gold medalist in the last Strikeforce he defended all takedown attempts and whenever the Cuban guy went for a takedown Feijao's corner told him "make him uncomfortable". @MmaNcovers Dude thats not true man. kinda. Everyone knows ALL martial arts in MMA, at least good fighters do. if any are left out those things can be utilized to win. Just like how matt hughes beat Royce, Royces had jiu jitsu, but hughes had jiu jitsu and wrestling.
@DestroyerAlexandros ya thats bs. boxing and sambo???? If a very experienced boxer when against a very experienced muay thai or jiu jitsu fighter theyde be FUCKED. and if the world was the way it was before we knew about gracie jiu jitsu it WOULD be the best self defense, 90 percent of fights go to the ground, and jiu jitsu fighters are the BEST on the ground. now you just cant say that cause ALL the wrestlers train jiu jitsu. and jiu jitsu is GREAT for street fights fyi. i kno from experience.
@DrDeeAye HAHAHAHAAH. THIS IS FIGHTING NOT SCIENCE! Who said all fights go to the ground? I've been in 5 fights all my life (I go to work in suit you know) and only 1 went to the ground because I was small back then. Now I am 7 feet 130 lbs and people go down when I hit them ANYWHERE. Who gives me the most difficulty in the gym? Not static muay thai fighters who stand square, not JJ guys who can't take me down. Boxers with good headmovement and infighting, that's who! (continues)
@DestroyerAlexandros lol, you sound like such a dumbass. First of all, if your 7 feet tall and 130 lbs you sound like you would be INCREDIBLY easy to take down. A stiff breeze could put you on your ass. 130 pounds spread over 7 feet, I call BS. Never the less, we've done the Boxer vs. MMA. Ask James Toney what happened when he took on Randy Couture. James got squashed. One of the best boxer's in history.
@DrDeeAye And your comment "ya thats bs. boxing and sambo????" didn't in any way disprove my remark because boxing and sambo are the two most dominant combative sports in - you guessed it - Eastern Europe. And Eastern European fighters dominate all combative sports because - you guessed it - the Soviet Union had all their men go through military training where they were taught - you guessed it - boxing and combat sambo!
@DestroyerAlexandros Eastern European's dominate Combat sports? Really? Name one that currently dominates in mixed arts combat. IE, MMA. Boxing and Sambo themselves are limited sports, and even then, Russians dominate the HW division of boxing, and Sambo is primarily Russian. In MMA, I don't see any Russian Champions any more. Or really any European's for that matter.
@DrDeeAye And your comment "ya thats bs. boxing and sambo????" didn't in any way disprove my remark because boxing and sambo are the two most dominant combative sports in - you guessed it - Eastern Europe. @oscaromarjp that only happens if the smaller opponent is more skilled but if the skill level is same, bigger will win unless the small one caught bigger opponent.
weight does make alot of difference, im only 140 and i train bjj with people like 3 times heavier so i have to work 3 times harder to submit them i also get 10x more tired than them but if the weight diff isnt as extreme as mine then it shouldnt matter too much, if i can do it im sure black belts can!
It doesn't matter your weight, any amount of weight when applied to the correct part at the correct angle like and armbar is going to produce ALOT of pain, whether its 90lbs or 200 lbs :)
the whole point of jiu jitsu even coming about was to neutralise size differences so weight unless in extreme differences isnt important its technique
the point was to give a smaller person *a chance* against a larger person by developing techniques that use major muscle groups against a single joint in a disadvantaged position. this doesn't mean size isn't a factor. otherwise, why have weight classes?
In most cases yes, there are of course extreme situations where a smaller person's largest muscles groups will not be able to over come even an isolated arm of an extremely large and powerful person.
An example, a fit 130-140lbs man, even with excellent technique, would be hard press to lock out an armbar on someone like Pudzianowski from the World's Strongest Man games, or a similar athlete. Even Roger Gracie himself had his first armbar attempt powered out of by Ron Waterman in their fight.
@Sadyv On the subject of Strongman, Magnus Samuelsson (who has won "World's Strongest Man") is a friend of the Gracies and has been training with them. I can imagine that dealing with people like him in BJJ is close to impossible just because of his insane strength and anatomy, unless one is strong enough to somehow nullify it. Most people would probably tap out as soon as he got a grip on them, seeing as he's one of the people who can close a Captains of Crush #4-gripper (~365lbs/165kg).
I love BJJ as well but don't be so naive, there is a reason why TKD is an olympic sport. Its popular, its been marketed in the right way (obviously). BJJ won't be made an olympic sport b/c its too close to Judo but but I think there is a real possibility with submission grappling.
Sorry I was actually thinking sub grappling when I said bjj, I consider them the same just without the gi, and yes the dominators will still be the brazillians. Submission grappling like adcc for example are just bjj competitors without gis. As for bjj being too close to judo, its far surperior, that has been demonstrated time and time again
