yeah they seem t oahve really optimized AoC since the early days.. on standrad hardware, it runs almost as well as WoW now tbh... u'll AoC medium settings will give at least same FPS as WoW high settings. So i'd say AoC is more optimized than wow as wow's graphics are simpler.

that said, on very high end games like Farcry 2, Crysis, there are various benchmarks showing the advantage of i7 with, say, a GTX 295 or dual GTX 285 SLI... its future proof like you mentioned

The i7 is really the best processor for SLI systems as it can offer something like 20FPS more compared to SLI on a Core 2 Duo E8400 (the most popular gaming processor upto now).

really pays off to have a great rig for a game like AoC.

Honestly my wifes PC is a E8400@3.0 with a refurbished EVGA 8800GT and it play's the game @1680x1050...

Mine's just future proof. well. for the next few years at least.

I was wondering how well AoC works under SLI. I heard it wasnt optimised for it. Also what resolution do u play at? is this DX10? all maxed out? XP, Vista or Win7?

SLI for AoC has been broken with this newest patch. It doesn't work well in Dx9 but works great in Dx10.

I'm running This siege in modified Dx9, resolution is 1920x1080 Vista64bit.

Settings max just particles on our raid and not everything.

that's brilliant considering its on a 9800GTX if the SLI isnt kicking in. so should be awesome on a GTX 285 at that resolution.

haha no i dont have a gt 200 series card. i asked cos i wanted some info... i'm thinking of getting an i7 with 1800MHz RAM and a GTX 275 though... Half considering the GTX 285 but that's £60 more for about 2 FPS better performance, esp at resolutions like 1080p. i wanted to know how the perf was. i might save that £60 and get a second GTX 275 later, OR directly go for a GT300 when it releases.

yeah true. but GTX 280 is great-- but it is a bit oldish. its manufactured on a 65nm lithographic process. GTx 275,285 and 295 use the newer 45nm process.

the GTX 275 performs slightly better than the gtx 280, and the gap widens when both are overclocked, as the 45nm process allows for lower power consumption, lower heat and better stability at high clocks. GTX 285 is slightly better but considering the price difference, not really worth it, as all three cards peform very similar to each other.

Could anybody tell me a rough estimation of how AOC's playerbase is after the server mergers? For instance, severely dwindling (like before I quit), steady or thriving?

after server merges, it SEEMS like its steadily growing, but that might be simply because of all the merges. i really dont know. all i know is tyrannys at a nice pop lvl and as long as that stays the same im happy

It was a great siege, lots of fun times! (even though I took TONS of dirt naps) We were close though, got it down to 18%
