Padre Pio our special saint! I am convinced that his precious oil healed my brother, a medical doctor, of an open wound that would not heal. My brother a non practicing catholic was sure his leg would have to be amputated. He consented to pouring the oil on his wound and praying for Padre Pios intersesion. Within in two weeks his 10 inch open wound was healed. My brother now believes in miracles. Padre Pio you are in my prayers daily.

This guy always struck me as simple-minded. He clearly staged the wounds for attention, which he got. The Romans saw crucifixion not only as a death penalty but also a means to publicly humiliate the victim, hence it being carried out in the open. Jesus gave his life (in terms of charity what more could you give?) to save us, how is that not compassionate? Padre Pio was far from simple-minded or an attention seeker, if you read anything about him you'd know that.

@dolcevita4me One of the purposes of saints is to demonstrate the feasablity of living life for god. Of course its not easy, and we cannot presume that we are saved or not. Saints are the embodiment of what jesus christ wanted humans to be, which is why we identify them as such, because they live completely and utterly in the name. Now granted, more than just saints live this way, but I personnaly think its a bit ridiculous for proving someone to be a saint.

Praying is not meant to express unimportant concepts, but, if done as it was meant to, deppen the personal relationship with god and express true feelings, sins, and hardships. Now this isnt their primary purpose, but its important to note that we ask the saints, now our guardian angels, to watch over us. If u think that this is contadictory to Gods omnipotence, remember that those saints lived for god, and for other people as they continue to do now because of their faith. If u cant accept that, just try to imagine what there is to do in the heavenly afterlife.

Jesus wanted us to live and follow him, and to accept all others with unquestionable and unwaivering love no matter what. Let's assume for argument's sake that Padre Pio's stigmata was real. What is the point? OK.. Let's say it's been proven true. What good is it? Does it help people's lives? Does it heal the sick? If not, then who cares? It is completely worthless. It serves no purpose other than to put on an act or performance for all the gullible sheeple. People love to be entertained and Padre Pio with his fingerless gloves was certainly a good performer.

He healed them physically first of all, but only one returned to truly thank Jesus for the wonderful act. Jesus responds that,"Your faith has saved you". Take a moment to consider the importance. St. Pio has always held a very special place in my heart and soul. I have been very blessed to have been able to visit San Giovanni Rotundo a month ago with many others on a Pilgrimage to Italy.

@nightblader7, No thanks. I've been there and know about the falsehoods taught. Even confirmation is not an endorsed "sacrament" by the Holy Bible. Baptism should be enough for an adult. But catholics seem to need confirmation because when they were baptized, they were all babies and have no idea of what they "accepted" as a religion. So, a re-affirmation or confirmation is supposedly needed.

Padre Pio our special saint! I am convinced that his precious oil healed my brother, a medical doctor, of an open wound that would not heal. My brother a non practicing catholic was sure his leg would have to be amputated. He consented to pouring the oil on his wound and praying for Padre Pios intersesion. What bothers me is he chose to focus on the most morally worthless, melodramatic, and primitive (pagan human sacrifice) aspect of Jesus' story, instead of the immensly more valuable but boring teachings of humility, charity, compassion etc. I really think that this was a rather foolish scheme to promote one's religion, it only appeals to other foolish people.

@marlboroman1985 How is being nailed to a cross not a story that encompasses all three (humility, charity, compassion). The Romans saw crucifixion not only as a death penalty but also a means to publicly humiliate the victim, hence it being carried out in the open. Jesus gave his life (in terms of charity what more could you give?) to save us, how is that not compassionate? Padre Pio was far from simple-minded or an attention seeker, if you read anything about him you'd know that.

@dolcevita4me One of the purposes of saints is to demonstrate the feasablity of living life for god. Of course its not easy, and we cannot presume that we are saved or not. Saints are the embodiment of what jesus christ wanted humans to be, which is why we identify them as such, because they live completely and utterly in the name. Now granted, more than just saints live this way, but I personnaly think its a bit ridiculous for proving someone to be a saint.

Let people choose for themselves, for if they truly seek salvation, then they shall choose their own path to god, whether by themselves or with a specific religous denomination. If we attempt to sway peoples opinions with OUR specific beleifs, the outcome will be a biased,narrow-minded choice. A spirtual journey is the only way, for their benefit or not.

Im not sure where you grew up or what may have influenced your decision making, but anyone making an argument for or against a religion, such as Catholicism, can be effective, but not necesarily valid. Anyways, the fact is that the religion itself if not a fallacy inasmuch as the ppl in choose to do wrong or right, the lord or the devil. Its the same as any other religion

@dolcevita4me It sounds like u are taking things out of context and a bit bit too far towards a different direction. Those 'meaningless words' are trivial matters and unimportant things. Praying is not meant to express unimportant concepts, but, if done as it was meant to, deppen the personal relationship with god and express true feelings, sins, and hardships. We ask for guidance and continued faith to combat the difficulties in life as a servent of God, remembering to thank god as we go.

@dolcevita4me Babies are baptised as a way to not only introduce them to the faith, but as a way to cleanse them of original sin. Note that original sin has no impact on the bad choices they may or may not make in the futureas humans naturally inquisitive nature as taught us. In addition, whether someone is baptised as a child or adult is strictly choice and belief. If you think that a personal connection to god is all that is nesecary, then catholicism may not be the best approach for u.

Its true that many people waste precious time and energy over theological debates when we should be living for god. You dont have to be a zealot to be a good Christian, or even a saint or Jesus for that matter. The beauty of free choice is that we CHOOSE our path. If we slip up, thats OK, we are human and we only ask for forgiveness and faith and move on

@dolcevita4me We dont pray to saints. We pray and ask them to intercede on our behalf to god. Now this isnt their primary purpose, but its important to note that we ask the saints, now our guardian angels, to watch over us. If u think that this is contadictory to Gods omnipotence, remember that those saints lived for god, and for other people as they continue to do now because of their faith. If u cant accept that, just try to imagine what there is to do in the heavenly afterlife.

@dolcevita4me When Jesus responded as such, keep in mind that few people had ever lived their life for god at this point. Jesus was and still is the physical manifestation of gods love. Jesus wanted us to live and follow him, and to accept all others with unquestionable and unwaivering love no matter what. We dont rely on saints to save us, they merely show us that living like Jesus is difficult, but possible, as He, padre pio, and all other saints have done.

Let's assume for argument's sake that Padre Pio's stigmata was real. What is the point? OK.. Let's say it's been proven true. What good is it? Does it help people's lives? Does it heal the sick? If not, then who cares? It is completely worthless. It serves no purpose other than to put on an act or performance for all the gullible sheeple. People love to be entertained and Padre Pio with his fingerless gloves was certainly a good performer.

@2eelShmeal remember the verse with jesus and the ten leopars.(btw, idk the actual verse #'s). He healed them physically first of all, but only one returned to truly thank Jesus for the wonderful act. Jesus responds that,"Your faith has saved you". Take a moment to consider the importance. Take into account that ALL of the ten leopars asked Jesus for aid in the same way, at the same time. The one that returned was physically AND spirtually cured. If you dont believe me, do some research.

@271828183141592654 My children were confirmed in a Catholic Church. It did not cost a penny. A child is baptized as a baby before being able to make a decision, Confirmation is the child old enough to re-affirm baptism promises made on their behalf.

@nightblader7, No thanks. I've been there and know about the falsehoods taught. Even confirmation is not an endorsed "sacrament" by the Holy Bible. Baptism should be enough for an adult. But catholics seem to need confirmation because when they were baptized, they were all babies and have no idea of what they "accepted" as a religion. So, a re-affirmation or confirmation is supposedly needed.

@allielover17 its small differences like Catholics believe that the Virgin Mary is the same level of Jesus and God. im an Iraqi Christian Orthodox and we believe that the Virgin Mary is kinda lower than Jesus and God because the Virgin Mary had a father and mother but Jesus didnt have a full family(only a Mother). things like that but in the end we are all Christians.

We believe she is a creature created by God, so that already puts her lower than God, and yet we believe that God took away from her original sin, so that she was sinless when giving birth to Christ since Christ could not have been born of a woman stained in sin.

@Nuevoaliento Many of which came from the Bible, and the people who wrote it. The MALE priesthood, for example. The DAILY veneration of the Body and reading of the Scriptures. (And, yes, people do attend Daily Mass. I should. We all should if we can find the time.) Transubstantiation ("This is my body", note "is", not "is like") the sacraments (marriage, where "a man clings to his wife and the two become one flesh", for example). The Bible and the Traditions are both complete each other.

I go to an all boys catholic school and take a religion course year round. We read a passage from the bible everyday, and discuss it. Schools all over the country do this. And this is the truth. 99% is not a legitimate statistic.
