I understand and appreciate that some people like this kind of music, but personally I don't. Not to mention, after what he said about Wolfmother (Which is a band I do enjoy) He seems a little narcissistic. But if you like him, that's your opinion and I respect that. I can acknowledge that doing this for almost ten minutes straight is fucking amazing. Other peoples throats would be destroyed after this. And it sure is original.
But to be honest, I really cannot see how this is music. It's more of an 'experience' in my opinion.

Mike Patton is an experienced man, one of the most creative musicians in the world (also is John Zorn).. he woul'd even care if someone's says "that doesn't sound like music".. because it is just not supposed to.. this is not N'Sync..
@r4pt0rP5K - In this case, he's part of a hardcore improv piece, and it's clearly lead by a nutter, but Patton is rather nuts himself really. Listen to everything he's ever done, take note of his immense range and maintain he is not an extremely talented man, with possibly the broadest appreciation for music on a fundamental level that cab imagined :)

@dawrightstuff it's kind of a weird performance but i think it should be put in proper context. IMHO you should look at it as a technique rather than "art" (but who is to say what's art and what's not anyway). Patton has a supernatural ability to produce sound (both singing and noises) which I truly admire. The guy has so so many voices and I couldnt mention any other singer who had this ability. i think this piece, whether its art or not, is expressing emotions vocally and rythmically.

@Artingence It is music. It has a beat for one. That automatically makes it music. A sound could be considered music. Take John Cage's 4'33" for example. If 4min and 33secs of silence is music, which it is, then 10min of a vocalist making predetermined noises and notes, is certainly music. Noise music is a genre. I don't give a fuck if you don't like it, it's still music. Its actually quite beautiful, too. When you develop a taste for screaming, Mike Patton doesn't disappoint.

I love Mike and I know hes crazy. He is the man of many voices but how can you sing along with that? It needs some music with it. Just reminds me of cartoon sound effects. I think at one point he coughed up a hair ball.

Theres plenty of more interesting avant garde music out there. This is just some guy with his shirt of making silly noises, maybe if he did some masonna shit with it or whatever it would be ok. but genius? really?
