love your vids, trying to teach myself what youre doing.....have photoshop and wacom stylus....my question is do you just have one layer for the color of the mech, and a seperate one for the linework? I'd like to know the nuts and bolts process of layers, brushes etc.....thanks in advance!
Oh also, I was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to generally draw mechs. Like general things like how to make shoulder pads and how to flow them into the arms and how to make the chest armor go into the torso and like a couple general head shapes and stuff like that. It would help immensely with creating mechs and not just copying yours.. If you could do it that would rock.. Thx
@DragonDrawing deeeefinately a pad. You can tell because how his brush size changes so easily, because of the pressure he is applying, so if the circle of the brush is huge, but he is only making small brush strokes, then its sure tell sign its a pad. Hope it helps :)
It's not a matter of whether work of that quality could be done on GIMP, it's whether you want to bother. Photoshop is going to make it easier for you to do high quality stuff faster, but GIMP can get to the same end result. If you paint as a hobby and don't want to spend money, then GIMP would probably be fine. If it's something you're serious about I'd recommend photoshop. I'm a digital artist by trade and for me Photoshop CS4 was worth every penny--just hunt for a bargain.
Ha ha! As i watched the end of this video, i started to wonder: "Hmmm, that robot is starting to look familiar!" and then it hit me! The eye and its headshape reminds me of Grey fox from Metal gear solid! xD
@michaelmyersvideos its sad that you will put down this guy- i draw girls has so many great tutorials uploaded - when he could choose to do so somewhere else with a fee. I think IDG- and MK are both very skilled yet very unique artists- same thing with the other 100 artists i watch on youtube each deliver something unique to the viewer- why limit yourself and only benefit from one when you can do so with all? go take your spam elsewhere amateur.
This looks cool but I really didn't learn anything from this.
**If you really like trial and error then stencil out an outline and stuff in the beginning but if you want a little bit more effectiveness I'd recommend making a posed stick man, then working out some basic shapes for the body parts and then start up the outlining. Makes the workflow go a little easier, gets you the pose you want and also keeps your whole character on the paper/canvas.
Custom brushes?...When I see at this tutorial, one thing comes to my mind ¡NO MAMES! (don't $%& me...). This is great, and I'm a beginner who wants to learn, drawing like 6 hours per day, with some questions. The brushes are the normal found in the photoshop pack or another kind?. Thanks for any responses, and sorry for my bad english...
He's probably either using Photoshop CS (whichever version) or Corel Painter (whatever version he has).
And I found that drawing with a mouse offer leaves the hand/wrist cramped and is much slower and less effective than a pen with pressure and all the custom controls you get from a pad. I just can't get near the same quality that I can with a mouse. Not worth the time or effort.
@x75tiger75x a tablet is the most preferable choice, but drawing with a mouse is not impossible, the only major problem i find in using a mouse, is drawing custom curves, and pressure control.
awesome love your work, I trying to get into character concept art myself, Im good with pencil, I usually scan my work to add color and detail with photoshop, but I fail there, I never get it the way I want it. but thanks your video helps me a lot.
thanks for the great advice in this video man. I'd love to see a completed concept from start to finish cause the furthest i get when i draw an original design is about as far as you got here. I'd love to work as a concept artist for a videogame company but my original art's not nearly as good as my illustrations on youtube. do you have any advice on that? i know i treasure my work way too much when it's only in its beginning stages which gives me a creative block but it's easy copying an image.
When he changed the head and made it wider the "jaw" of the bot somehow changed it shape alone -it became wider itself and fit with the rest of the helmet. So how does this work? Is it the program or smth else? I am asking for i am still drawing on paper with a pencil and it look so much easier on PC :]
Gimp is like a watered down version of photoshop; I would say photoshop is much better for painting than Gimp, gimp is just popular because it's free.
