I started to listen to Rory Gallagher's music like 4 years ago, and didn't know a lot about him... But when I knew he died some years ago and that this album is posthumous I cried like a little child listening to this song... R.I.P. Rory Gallagher.
..still need a Rory fix, Barry Barnes stop messin with the kid 'n get Sinnerboy back doing what we all love, Moses Gate nights were the best ever, Rory, Sinnerboy, kids, wife, you know what I mean...
saw him live in new zealand in 1980, Briliant concert. The acoustic one he did, from memory, was Out on the Western Plain. He also played the mandolin, pretty incredible, he was a multi-instrumentalist
I'll be dead honest, one night i was listening to this & it sort of hit me that Rory Gallagher was actually dead (despite me being a baby when he died)....Really got to me, like his music is spot on in so many genres
What a lovely song..I think with each unearthing of an out take or track not released at the time we hear a side of Rory we were not privy to at the time and I wish we had of.
I have heard so many songs that would make me cry but honest to god this one takes the biscuit, Im so proud to be irish, and as i write this im drinking Irish whiskey!!! Thanks Rory for your music
I agree with you Lizzie. I can't stop crying. I went to Rory's grave 14. 6.10. Rory's fans and people live in Cork are all so beautiful and got a nice sesitive heart. I felt they are all my family. I'm sure I will visit there again.
@LizzieGallagher no. bullfrog blues is definatley the best, this song sounds like rory was just giving up on life, he should of been buzzin to be alive with talent like that.
@ThePowerslave94 canned heat didnt write this, not according to the liner notes written by Donel. Rory's brother attributes it to Rory back in 1977. No official reason exists, that I know of, to explain why it wasnt released then. Donel theorizes it was too meloncholy for the stuff Rory was releasing to his ardent fans at that time.
How beautiful. I'm not tough at all, but feel like tears myself. Gallagher must have been a really deep guy-- he was too shy to introduce himself to many people off stage but let it all out in his music.
@Scoob505 there is no tough guy that wont shed a tear at this song, rory was tough as nails and lived out in the cold all his life, then wrote this song for the rest of us when he knew he was about to die of liver problems from his heavy drinking, so he sent this song to the rest of us before he died to tell us to reach out to each other instead of for a bottle. A brillant guitarist, a brilliant singer, a brilliant man, Rory is Irelands treasure forever.
I overlooked this in the past. Beautiful little tune, but now exactly rare. NO! I didn`t write that! No way am I going to have you put ME in my place!!!
Hearing this song saddens me. I was a young twat in the early 80's when i say RG in Kilkenny. I will never forget it... RG is a legend. It's a pity he didn't become a worldwide legend like his peers...
Anywhoo, Good old Barry Barnes did an excellent job (acoustically)in Ballyshannon 2008. Barry, Barry, Thank You! Wheels within wheels is a classic. Well done M8, Well done. :)
although he's the greatest guitar player of all time i don't agree with you that it's a pity he didn't become a worldwide legend. Rory was Rory and he had no intensions of becoming that famous.
Rory Gallagher died in 95 which really sucks because too me and may be others he was more than just a great guitar player he was an idol and for a lot of people and me a legend and this song is a great beautiful song by the legend himself rest in peace Rory.....

Rory wrote the most beautiful love songs,
loves that never saw the light but still burning deep in his heart
Had he ever been misunderstood or treated thoughtlessly by anyone?
I'm sure it's a part of his own life he shared with us.
RIP Rory you're still the Greatest
